I've officially converted to a Campus Fine Wines loyalist. It's always a joy to visit the store & ask the staff (especially Michael!) for wine recommendations. They're knowledgeable, fun, & very willing to work within your budget & taste preferences. For a relatively small store, they have quite a varied selection of wine. I popped in to the store last night while I was waiting for my sushi order to be ready for takeout just down the road. Imagine my unbridled delight when I saw a section of the refrigerated wines labeled as "Wine For Sushi & Spicy!" I actually laughed out loud. Precisely what I was looking for, & didn't even need to ask. I went with a Grüner Veltliner & it was, as expected, delicious with my sushi. I was looking for a bottle of Le Berceau Blanquette de Limoux Brut and found it was available at Campus Fine Wines. I put in my order through the Campus Fine Wines website. The next day, I received a call from Curtis informing me that unfortunately they do not have Le Berceau Blanquette de Limoux Brut in store, but they were putting in an order and can let me know when it arrives. I was not in a rush so I informed Curtis that I can wait. 8 days later, Curtis texted me that the Le Berceau Blanquette de Limoux Brut was in. I walked in and I informed the cashier that I was here to pickup an online order. Curtis was also behind the counter and he jumped in and asked are you Stephanie? I said "Yes! That's me." He said he got a whole case in so I purchased another bottle. The next time I was at Campus Fine Wines was for a Yelp event. Most recently, I went back to purchase a bottle of one of the wines we tasted at the Yelp experience. I was looking around the store for the bottle and Howard approached me and asked if I needed help with anything. I said I was looking for the Benito Santos Saiar Albarino 2023. He showed me exactly where the bottles were. All the staff at Campus Fine Wines are really friendly and welcoming. I never post reviews, but I had a bad enough experience here that the keyboard is coming out. The woman who was behind the counter was very rude to me about an expired ID. It would have been fine if she had just let me know that my ID was expired and they would soon not be able to take it, but she instead continued to come after me and scold me over and over as I tried to deflect. Look, I'm just trying to buy something to drink from your store - there's no reason to come after me over nothing. If you can't take the ID, just let me know. I'm not trying to spend my Saturday night getting ripped into at your store. There's plenty of other places I can take my business. read more

Campus offers an awesome selection of affordable amazing wines. They work with great importers that care about where the wine comes from and how it's made. Howard (co-owner) will never try to sell you a bottle of wine that's more than what you're looking to spend. He'll take the time to ask you what you plan on eating that evening to make sure you're getting a wine that will go well with your food. The guy knows his stuff and so does everyone else at the store. Friday evening wine tastings are always fun and informative! Bonus points for being dog-friendly and always giving my little bud Wilson a treat on our way out. read more

Knowledge- Howard in particular is so knowledgeable and passionate about wine, as cheesy as that sounds. Natural, raw, and organic wines have been on trend in posh places for some time now, and his love of natural wines is genuine, deep and longstanding. He'd been in the beverages industry for decades and the knowledge spills out into the collection and the enthusiastic service. I love that! 2. Selection- The bottles are varied and diverse. Too many shops have generic picks that every other wine shop would carry bc of the popularity contest that is wine magazine ratings. Here, every bottle that is sold has been tasted by staff and selected by virtue of tasting balanced and good. Every. Freaking. Bottle. 3. Education- Wine shops cannot legally advertise that they host tastings in RI, but ya, you can get "educated" here on Friday afternoons and the "learning material" is interesting. 4. Pricing is fair--and sometimes even a steal--given the selection. You're just not going to find a lot of the bottles that can be found here elsewhere. Campus Fine Wines is a great local liquor store. With a friendly staff and thrice weekly wine & beer tastings, this is probably your best bet in Fox Point. If you plan to frequent one of the local BYOB establishments nearby, Campus Fine Wines should be your first stop. My only gripe is that the beer selection is not as expansive as I would like. However, given the local youths (university students) tastes in beer, I don't think it would be too economical not to stock the Light Beer staples. read more

This is a whisky review. For the area, they are on the expensive side on nearly every bottle I was interested in (at the time of this writing). Their selection is pretty fair and some of their staff I've encountered seems to know their whisky. However, I was put off by their refusal to quote prices over the phone, even though I suppose I understand why. Their strength seem to be wine; this isn't the place for whisky. read more

I just love that I can spontaneously go to these BYOB spots without any pre-planning and simply stroll into this store for a 6-pack or nice chilled bottle of sake on my way to dinner. Five years ago this would have been a no-brainer 5-star rating for me. But, bummer!, service went from amazing to barely-there. I got such stellar recommendations and learned a lot from those guys but with the turnover? new management?, this place just ain't the same. Top that off with the knuckleheads at the cash registers who don't acknowledge the customer, enwrapped their own conversations - dude, I can't stand that at Stop and Shop let alone a "boutique wine shop". Such a lovely wine shop! Seriously - if you're on the hunt for wines, look no further -- it's what these guys clearly specialize in. Reislings, Roses, Rhones - you name it, they've got it, and in an abundance of varieties, I might add. The staff is super helpful and welcoming - I highly recommend taking them up on their offer for help, as they're trained to hone in on what you're looking for and make recommendations based on your tastes. The shop itself isn't particularly large, but it is well-stocked and laid out. If you're not into wine, their selection of beers towards the back of the store is fantastic -- both chilled and room-temp available. Easily the best wine selection in the area -- both in terms of price and variety. They've got a pretty sweeping collection of eclectic domestic and foreign wine, as well as the racks of Narragansett that College Hill kids love. They also offer occasional deals on collections of loose bottled beer (e.g. variety packs of pumpkin beer in the fall), which are a fun way to drink a bunch of beer. read more

I used to go here frequently just because it was close to my house, but I was always a little annoyed when I left because the beer was never cold enough and the girl who always worked there seemed to HATE me (BF tells me that she frequently flirted with him, interesting...) Now, I can honestly say that I'm going here for reasons other than proximity. The new owners have done a great job with the place. They remodeled the interior so it's much more light and welcoming; the beer from the cooler is now colder; they have wine tastings all the time, the selection (of everything) has improved and their staff are nice to me--friendly even. The place is not huge, so they will never have everything a person wants, but they have a lot of variety and a good rotation of seasonal beers. Wine is reasonably priced as is liquor. The only drawback of the layout though is that all the liquor is behind the cashier, so you have to stand awkwardly and look over the counter for what you want, then have them get it for you. This could feel reminiscent of an olde-tymey grocery/ pharmacy and therefore make you feel nostalgic for a time you've only seen in movies, but it actually just makes you feel like an alcoholic. They probably do it this way to keep the liquor from getting stolen? Regardless, I'm a fan, as my star distribution indicates. read more

While I was an undergrad, Campus was the only place where you could run into a professor selecting fine wines, while picking up a 30 rack for a Beirut game yourself. Campus has a great selection and superb customer service. I always went to Campus for advise on wine pairing. When their expert left Providence for truly greener pastures in Hawaii, he gave me his email address so I could ask him for suggestions anytime. Definitely check out Campus during their Vin 22 sale. Campus Fine Wines was my default booze stop in college, and I went back twice on my most recent visit and it's held up well as my taste in alcohol... got less shitty. There's a wide selection of beer, wine, and spirits. I also stopped by a Saturday wine tasting and tried a selection of great French wines. My first visit to Campus Fine Wines last night. I've been trying to get here ever since the ownership changed over and they became a true "wine" store. I visited during a Champagne tasting (by design). I enjoyed tasting some "farmer" champagnes and got to meet a couple of the owner/operators who were doing the pouring. Very nice, down-to-earth folks with great spirits knowledge and a passion for what they do. This is my kind of place. Their selection is eclectic - don't go in expecting to walk out with your "safe" wine. If you do, you're doing yourself a disservice. So I went into Campus Fine Wines recently and was talking to staff. I had meet the male associate that was helping me (sorry that I am terrible with names....) at a tasting event about 2 years previously. I started to describe one of the wines from the tasting -- which was the reason for me to visit -- and he REMEMBERED which wine I was describing. It was incredible. Plus they still carried the wine - so I did get to take it home with me. The folks at Campus know their wines and beers. Admittedly, I don't buy a lot of spirits, so I am not able to comment on that. The selection is both varied and full of your favorite old standbys. You really can't go wrong shopping here. Just the right amount of selection without being totally overwhelming. read more

This an alright option if you happen to be in this area. It is not as organized as some of the other places in the area though, or maybe I should say not as well labeled. You have to look at everything to see where things are, not that apparent from afar. The staff was very nice and helpful. While the name would invoke Keystone Light and Pabst Blue Ribbon as it's just off Wickendon near Brown and RISD, you would be incorrect and also remiss if you pass by one of the best little liquor stores in town. Not only do they have a punch-above-their-size beer selection, they have excellent, well-curated small production wines and champagnes that will probably surprise (and delight). Need a whisky or mezcal special ordered? No problem. Add to this their carefully selected wine tastings and their super-knowledgeable staff, and maybe you'll start coming here instead of some of the less attentive, bigger stores around town read more

Good selection of Wines, and a modest selection of craft beers and liquor. Love the staff, super knowledge about what food pairs well with what wine. Usually they have some deals on wine. Usually a little more expensive that surround liquor stores but definitely the place to try some new wines and beers. They have tastings weekly for wine and beer. I'm generally not to adventurous with wine, I stick to a nice light white, Mosel Riesling is my favorite from here and they always have in stock in the fridge and on the shelf! This is the go to liquor store for those that don't know better. Kids that just turned 21 or some sophomores trying to ride their luck using a fake id seem to love this place. The immediate area is teeming with their key clientele of students who just want to get drunk at any cost. Of course, this is capitalized upon by upping the price of drinks from a dollar to ten. Everything found here can be found cheaper elsewhere. There's really no need to pay $10 more for a bottle of cognac. Although wine is their specialty, the selection seems sedate and pedestrian, with nothing that really stands out as special. The staff constantly wants to "help you find something." But it's immediately apparent they've over their heads as they can't answer basic questions posed to them. Avoid this place and search for the better stuff around it. read more

I have been here far too often over the past two weeks. Sure some of this has to do with their selection (which is awesome) but more importantly the owner and workers are so nice and lovely to chat with. They also are all incredibly knowledgable and not looking to get you to buy something you can't afford. They want you to be happy with your purchase. My favorite example is their mystery packs in which they throw together 24 random extra beers they have and sell for $25. Rather than just putting in crappy beers in they always have a couple great ones and the purchase provides great value. Definitely my favorite liquor store in the area! read more

A few years ago, some new owners took over, and they've done a really great job with it. The beer and wine selection is great, they seem to have better prices on liquor specials now and they have frequent (weekly at least) tastings for interesting things. The staff is very friendly, and on multiple occasions have turned my clueless and vague wine/beer questions into very good recommendations. I can't overstate how helpful and nice they are. Only quibble would be that the layout puts the liquor stuff behind the counter, so that if you're looking for something, it's tricky to see the prices without asking, and browsing for those can be kind of uncomfortable since you're looking over the shoulder of someone who's just waiting there.
