You want to be there when it is low tide. There is a cool driftwood fort on the beach. Pick up after yourself. No overnight camping or hanging out after dark. It is pristine and peaceful. I had with me a fanny pack that impeded my movement - the cliff side overhangs were small enough for me to feel a wee nervous about the pack's width further from the safety of the rock face. My husband had a metal water bottle he had to keep one hand on. Also quite a bit of a burden. Should have left it so he could have both hands on some of these scrambles. My pre-teens loved the steps and ladders made from bent metal bars forced into rock. It was like a jungle gym with real life stakes. And the view! It was gorgeous. Worth the climb, even if the journey wasn't stupendously adventurous.

This is a great FREE center for all local people to take advantage of…read more The track that circles the courts is 590 feet around (8 laps plus 580 feet is a mile). Please read the bulletin board since they rotate the direction of the track daily. There are two basketball courts with adjustable net heights that they will gladly lower if you ask nice and there are plenty of basketballs to use. One of the courts is also used for PIckleBall which they have leagues that you can join up if you call and pay their fee. There is also a section that is for stretching, small group aerobics, or any other small group class. In the lobby area there is a good amount of seats for people waiting for others to finish their run, basketball practice, or pickleball game. There is also vending machines for snacks and drinks. They have a good amount of stalls in the locker rooms and plenty of hooks and other cubbies to put stuff away. Please be aware of their schedule since they sometimes have basketball games in which they put bleachers on the track. You can access their current schedule on their website. Be aware that as of now they are closed 10:30-11:30 M-F for a preschool program. I love taking my friend's kid here to let him run around the track or play basketball with any other local kid his age that happens to be there. Such a blessing for the many cold months and rainy days.

What a great facility!…read moreSuper friendly staff, brand new equipment and lots of natural lighting within the workout room...a personal requirement of mine. It's pretty small but not having equipment to use was never a problem for me. They relatively recently opened the fitness facility up to the public as its main use is one on one personal training classes. For only $25 a month you get unlimited access during particular time slots during the day. At first I thought this rigid schedule was a downside, but in actuality, the compartmentalized options gave me two to three times in a day to feel guilty for not going! So I think it helped keep me more on a schedule than anything else! The changing facilities are standard, with lockers (bring your own lock if you feel strongly about it but I never did), bathrooms and showers (bring your own supplies) Overall, this place is great. I think it's still a hidden gem because more often than not I was working out alone!...Though that may just be midcoast Maine too. :P They have a super nice skating rank and equally nice tennis courts you can rent out for $30/hr too.
