In 2010 I brought in my 1995 Mustang 5 speed for what I thought was going to be a basic oil change. My partner lived in Cambridge and I lived In Guelph, was just killing time. The technicians name was Jason who performed the oil change, then he took it out for a test drive and brought it back and gave me the keys. Everything was fine till I got on the 401 heading home and the clutch started slipping like crazy. Took it back the next day, Jason got into the drivers seat with myself in the passenger seat and right off the bat he was unable to switch the gears properly in his greasy steel toed boots and revved the engine like mad leaving Canadian tire before engaging 2nd gear. Tells me the clutch was terrible before the oil change and needs replacing. Deadass look this guy in the eyes and tell him he just slipped gears in his steel toed boots, explained the clutch just got replaced last year. The manager I want to say his name was Pinot says it's my fault and I was looking for a free clutch job. I've never returned or taken any of my vehicles back to this location. Was such a slap in the face, had someone else pull the flywheel and took it back and left it in his office. The shipped her an item that was broken and not as described on their online listing. Canadian Tire (also known as Cambodian Tire or Crappy Tire) is the place to be for cheap but somewhat useful knick-knacks around the house. You can find things from sports equipment to engine oil to flashlights to piping. It's really all over the place, and this is what makes the place wonderful. This particular location has a ton of parking out front. Prices are decent, and usually reasonable. With that said, the trick is to wait for sales. Sometimes things go on massive discount. This is when you swoop in. One product I am a fan of are their Motomaster tools. They're actually pretty high quality, and have a lifetime warranty. So if you bang them up, or something breaks, you go to any store for a replacement, no questions asked. The staff are friendly, but they are spaced so far apart that it may take you 15 minutes to find out which bulb fits your car. The self-checkout sucks pretty badly here. Other places such as Home Depot seem to pull it off without a problem, but the machines here are glitchy. Error messages and scanners that don't work (even when the staff are helping you) round out the Cambodian experience. One last thing: there's now an iPhone app for CT. This is the card that Canadian Tire gives you when you return an item that was defective and they do not have a replacement but they wish to keep the money within their business. It was given to me to use on any future purchase and I kept it for an emergency of rainy day. I went to use it today and they clerk showed me that the card has EXPIRED. As you would guess I said, "Excuse me?" The clerk then explained that when you get a refund in the form of their card.. That you have a limited period of time to use it or you forfiet the refund and they keep your money. Is that a legal form of theft? So, I buy a new set of tires from them. Three visits to have tires/wheels balanced, including the new tires they installed. Techs scratched my wheels and didn't clean wheels before installing strip weights. Weights fell off. 2 sets of tires later and 2 charges for balancing and my van still shakes. A strip of weights are sitting on my driveway! Guess what? The original tires I brought in are fine according to a dedicated tire shop. I bought 4 lights there and was 2 lights short so I went to the service desk and asked them if I could order the other 2 . the girl behind the service desk said no problem and told me they would be in about 1 week . so I waited the week and called still no lights . So this went on week after week so I finaly went into the store and asked for my money back and wanted to return the first 4 lights I bought since I needed 6 or nothing . They told me I could not return them but could get a refund for the other 2 that I ordered . Well I needed 6 lights the same for the front of my house . The flyer price did not match the web site price, they people in the store were not able to correct the error and 4 hours laters, ended up with Wendy at the Corporate office who was very nice but directed the store to make things right. At 8 PM on the Friday night, I receive a call from the Grimsby store from someone that had no clue what the issue was about and had been told to sell me some winter tires. After spending some time with him starting back at square one, I gave up. Not worth it. We tried the "social isolation curbside pickup" service at the de Maisonneuve branch yesterday. AVOID!! You've never seen such a total sh#%-show. You still need to line up and actually go inside the store (fine, the social-distancing protocols are enforced OUTSIDE the store). Inside, there are no signs directing you to the "pickup" counter, you get to wander around the store with your cart, where customers are pushing past each other and crashing into each other with their carts because there are no arrows on the floor, zero suggestions of social distancing. Once you actually find the "pickup" counter (which has no sign on it, you just guess that that's what it must be because finally it's the only option), there are no ropes, no lines, just a throng of people shoved up together waiting to pounce on the first sales clerk that appears. Zero staff are wearing masks or gloves. For extra fun, we got trapped between the two sets of exit doors when leaving so a clerk had to come in, physically squish past us to manually open the second set of doors. Same guy as earlier, not wearing a mask. If I get Covid this week, I know where I picked it up. Thanks, Canadian Tire. read more

I normally shop at Canadian Tire because it usually has a good selection of home items that I usually need. I always have a poor experience and consider not patronizing it any longer. I was in the middle of canning and ran out of supplies. I went to this location because I was sure that they had what I needed. They did. I was just about to check out when one of the managers started yelling at a little boy because he put an item down in the wrong place. I was aghast. Wow. We were waiting for 20 minutes to get help getting a jerry can from a top shelf with no service people in sight. The first one we came across, we politely asked for help. She said she can't help us and tried to walk away. We then asked if she could at least help to find someone to help us with it. Her very curt and Mandarin-accented reply: "No! I do finance!" and walked off. She wore a Canadian Tire nametag, so who the hell knew what department she works with and who cares?? I've bought everything here from Christmas trees to BBQ's to light bulbs. In fact, the only thing I probably HAVEN'T been here for, ironically, is tires. I particularly like coming here for kitchenware. They have a decent selection at reasonable prices, so you're almost guaranteed to find something that suits your needs. Just one thing to be mindful of, however. The prices here always seem to be such a good value, with signs claiming sale products to be 70% off, etc. Wow, 70% - that's a HUGE savings, right? Almost a no-brainer! Well, the fact is that these claims are pretty exaggerated. I'm not saying you're not still getting a good value on the products, but the savings aren't as much as they claim. The advertised "regular price" is heavily padded to make the deal seem better; when they say 70%, it's really more like 30%. I highly recommend doing a quick online search to verify before you buy, especially if it's a big purchase. I've not been disappointed with the quality of the products here, but just do your research to make sure you are actually getting the best deal. read more

If l had known that this store and their employees are so bad l wouldn't even have gone to the street where the store is. A week ago l saw a road bike on their website on sale. I went there with no hassle and giving no problem to the sales people l bought the bike. Because l knew what I wanted, so went there and paid. And l was told that the bike needs to be assembled, so l had to wait till next Friday. By the way, they got my phone number so that if something goes wrong they could give me a call! Today, l went there from Vancouver to get the bike as l was told. Guess what happened? No bike assembled yet. I asked why? to the woman, whom I think that was manager, because there was no name tag on her, just had different color tshirt and she was throwing orders to everybody so she is supposed to be the manager- She didn't find it necessary to give me a sensible explanation but saying, "O sorry about that!" Is that it? Pay. Wait a week. Come on time. And get a handfull of sorry? That's one of the best store experiences l have ever had. But don't get me wrong; this is not a complain. ** This is for the South Richmond, Steveston store ** The Service Counter (auto repairs, oil changes, tire changes, etc) is unconcerned about customer service. I had to go three times: 1) To book an appointment for an oil change 2) To deliver my vehicle at the appointment time/date 3) To pick up the vehicle All I had done was an oil change. Not even the so-called "safety inspection" which, incredibly, adds an hour to the time. Anyways, the oil change itself takes 45 minutes to an hour. Seriously, that is what CT "needs" for an oil change. Anyways, on each occassion of appearing at the Service Counter, I had to wait. The first time I had to wait because all of the incoming calls were more important than me, a customer standing in front of them. It was a good 10 minutes even though I was waiting at the counter. The second time (drop off the car), the attendant was busy tapping away at the computer ... much too busy to help me. Then more telephone calls came in. Drop off time at counter, another 10 minutes. The third time (pick up the car), the sole attendant was busy with a person who was trying to arrange an oil change for a Porsche. After 15 minutes, the sole attendant thought "hmm, maybe I should get someone else to help with the counter?" There was a cheer from the waiting crowd (quite long at this point) at the obvious need. So the Service Manager came down. Yippie, my turn! Finally! Too bad, my paperwork wasn't ready. The car was ready, but not the paperwork. Another 10 minutes. Total, including waiting, manager making it down, then more waiting was 30 minutes ... to pick up a car. Seriously, think about that. The manager, when challenged, said "Canadian Tire assists customers completely", referencing the Porsche guy. Duh ... the issue is, you don't have enough staff on the counter! One guy just doesn't do it. Extremely poor Service Counter management. And there should be a standing rule ... people actually at the counter are more important than phone calls ... and more important than hiding in the back office because they don't want to deal with the public. The customer service is questionable at best and I'm not impressed with the products - in fact we've had to return the same hose 3 times due to faulty craftsmanship. I was going to order something online that I wanted for this weekend but I thought I would be a nice person and "support local business". The Canadian Tire near me is 2 minutes away. I knew exactly what I wanted, the exact name, everything. I looked around for about 5 minutes but didn't see anything so I asked someone where I could find this item. He says, "IF we have it, it's in aisle 94 & 95". Go to the other end of the store, look around, nothing. Spent another few minutes looking for someone else to ask. They said, "IF we have it, it's in aisle 84 & 85". Go there, look around again, nothing. Find 2 men talking to each other with walkie talkies in their hands (management maybe?) and ask where I can find the item. One of them says, "IF we have it, it's in aisle 84 & 85". I say, "no, I've looked there". He says, "then it's in aisle 94 & 95". I say, "no, I've looked there too". "Oh", he says, "then we don't have it." I say, "well, online, it says you have 5 at this location." "Oh, let me check then. Do you have the item number?" (Seriously?) So I go on my phone, turn on my data, do a google search and give him the item number. He gets on his walkie talkie repeats the item number to someone on the other end and tells me to wait by the cash and someone will bring it out to me. I wait at least 15 minutes before I decide that maybe I should go to Customer Service. So I wait in line for another 10 minutes before I can ask about my item. Girl looks on her computer and says, "Oh, it hasn't been picked up yet. I'll call again. Can you wait to the side for me while I help another customer?" Sure, I don't want to be unreasonable but by this time I'm so mad, I'm almost in tears. 10 minutes later (not exaggerating) someone comes with the box. I noticed that the box was torn but by this point I just wanted to get the hell out of there. Girl at the counter was very nice, thanked me for my patience. I get home, THERE ARE PIECES MISSING!!!! Next time, I have a munificent thought, I will remember this incident, order online (usually Amazon) and have it delivered to my door the next day for the same price, often less.
