Just had one of the most frustrating retail experiences I've ever had at Canadian Tire. I went in to buy figure skates for my daughter and have them sharpened. I also brought my son's skates to be sharpened at the same time. Simple enough, right? Apparently not. There was absolutely nobody upstairs in the sports/skate area for a solid 15 minutes while I stood there trying to figure out the process. Eventually I had to go downstairs to customer service. The employee there told me to pay for everything first -- which I did immediately -- and then said SHE would come upstairs to sharpen the skates. So I waited. 20 minutes later, still nobody. My son finally went downstairs to ask what was going on, and her response was: "Oh, nobody came up?" Excuse me? YOU were the one who said you were coming upstairs. She then got on the walkie-talkie to supposedly call someone. Another 15 minutes passed. Still nobody showed up at the sharpening station. The only reason anything finally happened was because I was heading downstairs to complain and happened to run into another employee by chance. I even asked him if he'd received a call to meet me upstairs -- he said no. So in total, after already paying, I waited roughly 40 minutes just trying to get two pairs of skates sharpened. I work hard all day. This was the small window of time I had to do something for my kids, and instead it turned into a complete waste of time because this store is run with staggering incompetence. The staff were disorganized, communication was nonexistent, and management should be embarrassed that they allow the store to operate like this. I will never set foot in this store again. read more

I was recently hired for a position at the garden centre, but unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. From my first day, I felt unwelcome and unsupported. The team primarily spoke among themselves in a language I did not understand, which made communication and integration extremely difficult. I received no training or guidance on my role or responsibilities. When I attempted to contribute or ask questions to be helpful, my supervisor made it clear that my input was unwelcome and that I was overstepping or challenging her authority. Instead of receiving support, I felt isolated and "hung out to dry." Regrettably, the lack of onboarding, team inclusion, and basic professional courtesy left me with no choice but to feel discriminated against. I would not recommend this workplace to anyone seeking a supportive and professional environment. read more

Let's level set, this is Canadian Tire, a place that you can find anything (sans fresh food), and that's the point.. you can get most of anything here, from Ice Skates, to small kitchen appliances, to party supplies, and outdoor gear, it's all here. This store is relatively newer than others, and it feels big, even if it's really just one floor and an upstairs loft. It's cozy, the aisles are jam packed, but that's expected. I like this particular store, because things seem to be just slightly cheaper than others Canadian Tire stores, (and yes, some stores have sales that others don't, which I discovered). The staff here is friendly, and looking to help. The value, sure you can shop Amazon, but this is a Canadian owned and operated store, so that's plenty of reason to come here and spend your hard earned cash. read more

This review is for the automotive service department. My vehicle had a slow tire leak from my passenger rear. As I discovered this leak after closing of my regular tire store, I called the closest Canadian tire to have it repaired. The service clerk booked me for next day Sat,told me it would be 1hr long and cost approximately $50.00. I came in for the appt next day, gave the keys to the clerk, shopped upstairs and waited in the service waiting area. The service inspection actually took about 45min. The mechanic had come into the service bay to show me the leaking tire. I could clearly see that there was a screw in the tire causing the leak. The mechanic also circled 2 other areas on the tire and claimed the tire was damaged beyond repair. I could clearly see the the "damage" was just surface cuts. I asked the mechanic to just fix the hole with the screw. He refused stating the other damage compromises the safety of the tire. I told him to put the tire back on the car. I went out to the service clerk at the counter fully expecting to pay for the inspection service but they did not charge me for anything. I took my car to OK tires on Kingsway in Burnaby after the weekend. They fixed my tire and said there were no damage in the 2 other areas that CT had circled. Of course I can't prove anything but I can't help feeling the CT auto service was trying to scam me into buying a new tire. read more

Understaffed large location. This Canadian Tire has three floors, which makes it inconvenient if you need to buy/search for merchandise from multiple departments. You almost need to strategize, for example, if you wanted to buy sporting goods, car wax, latex paint and antifreeze. Do you go get the heavy stuff first, do you go to the top floor and work your way down or the other way around? There is an elevator, but it sometimes take a while for it to come. There is a huge selection of goods here, probably one of the larger Canadian Tires. And, scattered throughout the store are bargain bins that feature really cheap products. But, do your research first. Canadian Tire is notorious for hugely marking up their regular price and then discounting 80% off so it looks like a great deal. Parking lot is ample, and shared with Boston Pizza, Starbucks and PetSmart. So, you can grab a meal, a coffee or a dog treat while your on site. read more

Got sent an online offer from Canadian Tire to redeem points the weekend and get 20 percent back in points. Did online order for in-store pickup and the order did not go through. My CT money got cleared out of my account and the balance was charged to my cc. Spent half a day being shuffled around on the phone. They had no record of my CT money in my rewards account, and said all they could see that my cc was charged 9. They could not help me and said just wait 36 hours and all the charges might get reversed. Do not get suckered in to making an online order with Canadian Tire. There website does not work, they charge all the cards and cannot fix any of it. Had to cancel my cc in the end as I do not know if it was compromised. I have done online orders with marks and sprtchek and they were seem less. read more

Fact: I MADE AN APPOINTMENT ON A MONDAY FOR THE FOLLOWING DAY -TUESDAY AT 11:00am , for a simple eyes only inspection, a $65.00 -15 minute front suspension visual inspection and report. Figured I'd be in and out. I arrived a 1/2 an hour early, as a courtesy, and gave my car key to the service desk. I had to wait and watch from 10:30am until 1:00pm before my vehicle was finally moved into their garage.. I also had a schedule to keep that day. Not until I spoke to the manager at 1pm was my car moved. Took almost 3 hours out of my day....WITH A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT to have a 15 minute inspection done. Throughout the entire affair NOT one of the 9 persons on staff and working in the service area or at the service/parts desks approached me to explain WHY they were keeping me waiting in their waiting room for two hours AFTER my scheduled11:00am 15 minute visual front suspension inspection to be carried out. No staff offered an EXPLANATION for why my time was being wasted so...no one even broached the subject that there I was was two hours after my appointment waiting...still. Just a rather disconnected lesaffaire attitude....the whole experience was sublime at best...I did not feel like a valued customer in ANY way. I'm never making an appointment or spending money at that service garage again. Period. I did not feel valued as a customer their BEFORE, DURING, or AFTER my visit and won't be back for any service work their. This is my experience. read more

Clutter in the aisles so you can't move. Surly staff unwilling to move their large equipment so someone can access an aisle. Credit card pushers hitting you more than once with the worst credit card on the planet. The most expensive interest and with the most obnoxious customer service anyone has ever encountered. Great place to shop for automotive stuff, house ware, garden supplies, etc. My only peeve is that they allow solicitors from various charities to station themselves at the main floor exit 365 days a year. Customers who exit with their purchases are immediately set upon by these people and are asked to make donations and give out their credit card information. Although these charities are worthy organizations, I'm sick of being whacked for donation money each time I leave the store. I avoid this location for that reason alone. read more

Located in the new plaza on Grandview Hwy, this is probably the flagship store for Canadian Tire in Vancouver, as it's probably the biggest one now in size, over the one on Kingsway, and the one on Cambie. This mammoth of a store has 3 floors, as the floor below has a dedicated bay for maintenance and service of automobiles, and also a shopping area of strictly auto products. When you get to the main area, you really see how massive the store is from left to right. There display floor is nicely decorated with the sale items for the week. The wide isles are easy to maneuver through, especially with a big shopping cart. I usually come here for the flyer sales that start on Saturday of ever week. They carry a good nice selection. Also if someone in your family has to go to Canadian Tire, you can just walk over to Starbucks and have a coffee and wait for them to finish. read more

Came here to look at some of their Parking here is ample. Wow, they actually built up a mini strip mall here, with tons of parking. The location itself is split into 2 levels. The lower level is automotive only and the entrance here closes at 1900, so you may want to park upstairs. On the other hand, there is shade here.. It looks like Canadian Tire is moving towards the "superstore" model (ie fewer but larger locations), and to be honest, this is a welcome change. They could use a bit more selection in certain areas, so hopefully this fixes it. Staff here are hard to find. I walked around aimlessly for 10 minutes before finally locating what I needed. Then I found the model I needed wasn't there. Go figure. Hopefully you'll have better luck here. read more

Today I went to get a refund because the item is defective. The customer service refused my request and accused me of breaking it , I was provoked by her behavior and rose my voice demanding to meet her manager. They made it seem like it was my wrongdoing and ganged up on me. People including security and the manager aggressively grabbed at my phone when I wanted to document proof of their aggression. They kicked me, a old woman out of the store. I have been a regular customer at this location and have noticed the negligence and poor service, however most times I felt like i just needed to pick up what I needed and go...this time they have gone too far. Pros: often great deals (got a lamp, some lightbulbs, storage containers, and shelves for like a billion percent off), option to order online from the convenience of your own home and pick up. A warning if you decide to do curbside pick up. I got an email saying my order was ready for pick up, drove all the way there and they told me one of the items was suddenly out of stock. Had to wait another few days, drove back again, clicked the "I'm here" button in the confirmation email, no one came out with the order. Called customer service (the number that is on the sign) only for the call to be dropped several times. If this happens to you, you will need to resort to going inside the store to talk to someone directly. I went to the in store pick up window, explained the issue, and I saw the guy literally run out and get the item from the isle. I really appreciate the hustle and his sense of urgency to correct the problem. Curb side pick up is supposed to be the most painless process and for me it's just always been a strike of bad luck. Got my items in the end but I probably won't trust their curbside pick up again going forward. read more

A surreal experience After looking online for patio coffee tables, I decided to go to the actual Canadian Tire store to see the tables up close. When I got there, I could not find them. I asked a woman working in the garden centre where I could find such a thing and she sent me to aisle 5. They were not there. I then went to Customer Care ( maybe they are being ironic!) and showed them the picture on my phone from their website. They agreed to bring it out as they said I could not go into the garden centre. A young man brought it out and I asked to see it. Now neither the customer care clerk, nor the young man who carried the box, wanted to do such a thing. It seemed I had asked for something quite out of the ordinary, to see the merchandise. Customer Care said the do mostly online sales and they don't open boxes. I said, "but I am right here!" I was told they could show me a picture. Well, I had the picture I showed them! Then they said "the picture is on the box." I said I knew that but I wanted to see the real thing. It seemed I would have to buy it, take outside, open it, and decide if I wanted to return it. This was straight out bizarre. After to and fro arguments for and against opening a darn box, the young man who had carried the box trudged off and came back with a knife to cut the tape and open one end. Wow, I got a peek! Then another customer asked him a question and I don't know what happened but the customer was so upset and called him an IDI**. I was trying to buy an item and they kept me at the store for over an hour trying to figure out the item from another. Eventually the GM another Caucasian guy came and without clearly explaining the items to me, was so arrogant and snotty and rude, then he just said do what ever you want and walked away. I had bad service at Canadian tire many times and I just didn't care and went on my way, but this is another level completely. This store has horrible service! Came in to get tires had issues with tire rebate in CT triangle points card. So did a return and then repurchase bc they can't accept my ct money rebate. So I went to refund and then repurchase in different triangle points card. Now they say promotion has ended. Wtf***Just employees they don't care if we serviced at CT or if CT loses out on the sale. My purchase was about $1300 and then another $300 for insurance and balancing that I would have spent at the store. No sense of correcting the problems or helping their customers. This review is for the automotive department. I came in to purchase a set winter tires and have them installed on my car. The service was friendly, helpful and attentive despite my service representative was manning the only auto service counter open at the time. I was given a wait time of 3 hours due to the other service orders in process. I didn't mind because the store is right off the Rupert Skytrain station and I could easily hop on the train to go somewhere. I decided to ride the train to visit my parents. In less than 90 minutes, I got a call advising me that it was all done. I was able to use the same ticket to ride the train back to the store. I'm all set for the mountains now! read more

It's a pretty big location with lots of parking on both top and lower level. Just remember that the downstairs entrance closes at 7pm where the automotive area is. I have made that mistake and left thinking "it closes so earlier!". I think this location has pretty much everything you need in a Canadian tire. The automotive guys are nice but always seemed busy when I wanted to get in for an oil change. They don't take appointments, so it's kinda hit and miss with times. read more

Had an unfortunate experience at this location. It is the tale about returning two excess bags of Alaskan Ice Melter that had been bought in the store on November 4 and the return attempt was on November 9. It turned out that this very store got a new policy - "All salt/ice melter sales are final" on November 8. No signs to this effect were posted on the original date of purchase and the sales associate admitted that the changed policy with associated signage came up "the day before". It became even better when the "manager" came in - a lady proudly exclaiming that it was "central policy" from the "head office" and that "signs were posted" (outside the check-outs, i.e. so the customers are informed AFTER purchase - no signs at the ice melter stand at all). No clear sign at the entrance either. Nothing on the receipt either (would be appropriate to have the customer sign such T&Cs on check-out when a product with non-standard return policy are being sold). The "manager" had an attitude as well, behaving like it is "normal" and "self-explanatory" that the particular product is excepted from the return policy, without clear information to that effect being posted. The recommendation can only be this: Visit a different store and double-check the return policy, i.e. ask if the product is covered or not in order to avoid trouble. It seems like this particular location like to change their T&C at will so what was true one week is not necessarily it the next. read more

I called in at 1:15pm on a Sunday in dire need to get my front brakes done (to the point where they were already grinding). I was able to get an appointment at 1:30pm. When i brought my car in i also asked if they had time for an oil change because i needed one anyways. They said yes and also let me know that i would have to pay $50 just to look at the vehicle and if i chose to get the work done there it would go towards my payment after everything is done. I also asked them if they could install new wiper blades for me and they happily said yes. After about 45 minutes of them inspecting my vehicle he explained to me what exactly needed to be done (my front brakes) and said they said could change them. He also pointed out some things (not surprised) that i would also need. A new battery and my right front signal light. Both of which i already knew. So i let them do it and he even helped me out a little with prices and labour. Oh and i also got my brake fluid changed or whatever. I don't know much about cars. Actually i don't know anything at all. But i felt like i wasn't being taken advantage of. Which is honestly why I hate going to mechanic's. The guy i was dealing with was kind, informative and respectful of my time. I'm knocking off a star because i felt like why take about 45 minutes to tell me my brakes needed to be done when it was very obvious. After the 45 minutes and my confirmation that's when they started to change my brakes. Thank you for taking my car in on such short notice. And thank you for being open on a Sunday during this weird time (covid-19). read more

I felt like I was lucky to find the tires I needed in stock and on sale as well as them having time to swap them onto my existing wheels but when I discovered I no longer had the key to my wheel locks I called and the guy at auto service declined to look to see if they might have any wheel lock keys laying around that I could come and try. Awful attitude on top of negligence. There is a reason they weren't booked up .. go to at a real shop and avoid a headache later on top of paying any the money you might have saved to fix the problem they cause. read more

Do you remember a time when a local Canadian owned hardware / auto parts store was exactly that? What the new generation of the Canadian Tire franchise more closely resembles is a wannabe Wal-Mart. No longer specializing in anything, but coming off as weak in everything, this retail juggernaut has lost me as a fan. Try asking a staff member for their opinion on anything. Better yet, try locating one. I recently did a house renovation in a small town, and had the choice of using Canadian Tire and 2 other major retailers for the majority of the tools, hardware, interior finishing and decor. Canadian Tire came up short in pricing, selection and service everytime I made a major shopping trip. It's as though a massive dollar store had an unfortunate run-in with Debbie Travis armed with a pricing gun from an airport. More and more reviews reflect the same thought, and given that sales have been through the roof since the 90's, the negativity towards the brand isn't a point of concern by the franchise. And you have to pay to park in the rooftop lot at the Cambie and 7th store. Take a look at the store on Grandview Highway. It's a monster. Three floors. You'll wear yourself out trying to find something, or someone. But it's deserted, except for the human funnel at the checkout. I was there on a Wednesday night, and everyone checking out was forced to use the self-checkout. Not a cashier in sight. It was clogged. People were disgruntled, and the strain was showing on the two powerless customer service clerks, while the manager came to tend to a brief issue and left, without seeming to care about the obvious problem. One more note: Something I learned recently, and be warned: If anything you buy is defective, they will only give you store credit or exchange when returning it, not a refund. (Assuming you'd already have had the patience to wait in the returns and exchanges line.) My advice: Just tell them you don't want it, and get your refund. (and you get to keep the Canadian Tire money to give to someone who wants to shop there). read more

Dishonest and misleading. I came in to shop for winter tires a few days ago, and the sales associate told me that there was only one set of overly expensive tires that would fit my car, a very common model of Toyota. I've since shopped around with competitors, and have learned that this is not the case. While in the store, I had to ask multiple associates for attention before they would even help me. When they finally gave me some attention, they were not very helpful and willing to mislead me to make a few extra dollars. This Canadian Tire location should be ashamed of themselves. I will never do business with this location again, and I hope this is a helpful warning for anyone that decides to purchase something from this location. read more

Went to get new tires, mechanic scratched all my tires and plus broke my rim. 3 months later my sensor for my tires isn't working, the manager Amanda makes excuses for not being fixed, 2nd time had to go back and get rude attitude from her and the mechanic. At Kal tire in Port Coquitlam, got new tires, no issues, nothing broken. Not gonna shop at Canadian tire there again. Also my wife tried to get baby monitor, they couldn't order, so she went London drugs, they ordered and came in. read more

This is the biggest Canadian Tire I have ever seen!! It's crazy ass big...3 floors big in fact...that is a lot of square footage to fill up..especially in these times on economic woe.... I went in to check it out after I discovered the new Price Smart Foods....I entered on the automotive floor...which has all the car fixin's and a big garage...so I had to take an elevator to the nest floor which is were you will find all the regular Canadian Tire wares....I was shocked at how reasonable the prices seemed..I used to consider them quite expensive..maybe they have decided to become more competitive?? Much like the Smart Foods there were zero people in the store which was lovely...I found some great storage containers for my closet and a possible cupboard for my office...I also took a gander up to the 3rd floor which has all the "play" equipment..ie..fishing gear, kayaks, camping stuff....things real boys like to look at..not this boy...so I headed back to the kitchen wares department a picked up a whistling stainless steel kettle for $17..BARGAIN!! They also have a self check out which is fast becoming my favorite thing..makes the end of your shopping experience so much better...not having to wait in line forever...just scan and pay and on your way! A strange retail complex is replicating across the land - a Canadian Tire, Mark's Work Wearhouse, plus a Starbucks and some other random big box; in this case, PetSmart. The newest conglomeration of these stores can be found near Grandview and Boundary. Unlike the suburban versions, this one is sort of vertical, with a multi-level parking lot and two-level stores. This new Crappy Tire is really big - a two-floor, sprawling temple of xmas lights, housewares, tools, paint, and of course, automotive stuff. Given its newness, however, staff are plentiful and friendly. I guess they haven't been worn down into that characteristic CT grumpiness nor whittled to a skeleton crew. Just give it time. As with many new stores these days, they have replaced a lot of their manned checkouts with those self-checkout things. I gave it a go, since I only had a couple of things, and it was pretty easy. Still, I got annoyed with the clerk standing by who encouraged me to use the plastic bags for my two items, as if I couldn't see it already. Bah. That's the good thing about self-checkout; not having to interrupt a cashier who automatically puts stuff in bags before I can stop them. But I did love the automatic dispensing of Canadian Tire Money. I don't think many people know about this new location yet, so revel in its spacious emptiness while you can! read more

During the last 7 days I've shopped at this location twice. First time, I bought an Air Compressor and Dave, an employee in the tool department was extremely helpful. Not only carrying the 65 lb compressor on his shoulder all the way to the customer, but later, after I had made the purchase, he took it down to the lower floor for a layaway. I planned on returning the next day with another car to take the item home. Actually, Dave had also helped me earlier with a couple of other items that I was interested in, but could not find them. Thank you Dave. Tonight I was at the store again eager to buy five items on the Black Friday Sale. Got what I wanted. However, there was one item that CT had sold out. So I asked a young Asian chap named Alvin (or that's what it sounded like!) sitting at the Tools/Paints counter. Staring vacantly and barely breathing. I ambled over to him and asked if it was possible to get a rain check on the item. He brusquely said "we don't do that". On the flyer there were items that were clearly pointed out "rain check not available". This item didn't say that. I pointed out to Alvin/Alpin and he said "no rain checks for sale items". Not too amicable, but fair enough, if indeed that's the Company policy. My only question to Canadian Tire is, "Why the heck do you pointedly print on some items that there weren't any rain checks available, when the WHOLE flyer was full of Sale items!!??" Then coming back to Alpine (?), I politely asked him if he could check the sold out item was available at any of their other branches. Again, he muttered "Can't do that". Now what kind of customer service is that? Oh well...... I give 5 stars to Dave. CT gets 3 stars. Alpo gets MINUS 7. That leaves this Canadian Tire with 1 Star. Serves them right for hiring such employees. Shameful read more

Really poor customer service. I asked the guy in the paint department where something was and he didn't even get up from his chair and gave me wrong information. There were no other customers. I think he was more interested in texting than working. I wouldn't mind a job like that. He isn't an isolated problem, most of their staff act like they have no supervision. read more
