Hint...if you only feel like a half portion of fish and chips you can order a half order and for me it's a perfect portion of food. They do have a bar menu too if you don't want fish and chips. But really who goes to a pub in England and not order fish and chips. This is the place to do so. They do have a restaurant but I believe you need a reservation for that. Worth every bit for a nice meal out and I believe that the menu is a bit different.

When the food arrived the Buttermilk Chicken burger was completely black on outside and inedible due to burnt taste. The Long Dog burger was raw and cold in the middle. Both we sent back. The Buttermilk chicken burger came back fine but The Long Dog burger came back raw and stone cold in the middle again despite asking for it to be well done. After sending it back a 2nd time, the chef (also owner) took it upon himself to come to the table. When member of the group tried to explain the problem he became very rude and quite aggressive in his manor and was right in her face causing her to almost burst into tears and feeling very uncomfortable, as were the whole table. He also insinuated that we were lying when we said it was cold and raw. A member of the table was also told to shut up at this point too. His response to the complaint was that he could take it away and cook it again to be really dry!!! This offer was politely declined and table member was left with no dinner, as quite rightly so she did not want to take any further chances. When we asked to see the manager on duty, the conversation was taken away from the main public area. Whilst trying to explain our complaint the Manager was quite defensive about the food and even showed what he claimed to be a picture of the burger In question, which showed it fully cooked! When looking at this photo there were questions as to whether this was the actual burger as the big hole that was left by poking finger in the middle to check whether middle was cooked was quite clearly missing and no red meat was visible!! Manager then took the conversation to another level by saying that "the table were taking the piss by complaining about the food". It was almost as if we shouldn't have complained and just put up with eating raw burgers! We were made to feel very uncomfortable and an inconvenience to the service team. We asked for the bill and were presented with the bill showing a 20% discount but another 10% "optional" service charge added, which was a complete insult considering the issues we had had through the service! We asked for the 10% service charge to be removed as we did not think the service we had received warranted any kind of tip! The bill then came back to use higher than the original bill which included the service charge - how can this be?? At no point did any member of the waiting staff, Manager, Chef or owner apologise for the errors made, which would have been a simple resolution to the complaint. Subsequently we were left feeling rather angry at the way we had been treated and questioning, whether as locals, we would eat there again. A disappointing evening all round!

The menu isn't extensive, but included a reasonable selection of pub-style food. We tried the home-made burger in a bun which was excellent and an up-market fish fingers sandwich which was OK. Both came with home-made chips which were nice. Unusually for a lunch time we decided to try the suites because they looked rather nice: we shared a sticky-toffee pudding with custard, which was very good. They have a normal selection of draft beers and spirits, and a small private car park. Definitely worth a look, we'll be back.

The place is small and cozy with all sorts of little nooks and crannies but it has been sympathetically modernised, has a small selection of Tap drinks, and has regularly changing guest ale. The proprietors are very accommodating and take great care in delivering a suitable meal when I visited with a guest who is a celiac.

They may not have the best selection of lager but once you're there you don't mind. They have a lovely, green and well taken care of beer garden. This is a big bonus, especially during spring and summer. There is a roof over it, so even if it rains you can still enjoy sitting outdoors. We almost always get free treats as well; chips, sausages, mini burgers, sandwiches etc. which is very nice, they are all very good at making you feel welcome and appreciated as a customer. If you haven't been yet, give them a chance, pop in, you wont regret it!
