This winery is located right off the road and has views all around, The service was very personable and attentive. The guy helping was knowledgeable on the wines and history of the winery. We weren't too sure what we wanted to order and he made great recommendations and allowed us to taste couple before buying. They offer food for purchase, but also saw some people bring their own food. I would definitely go again and I get the impression that many people return regularly. read more

This is a good winery when you are burned out on Oregon Pinots. The grapes are sourced from warmer AVAs in the PNW and they specialize in Italian blends. I have a friend in the wine club and feel privileged to be her Plus One at the pick up parties. The food is top notched and beautifully paired with the specific wines in the pick up releases. The recipes are even included from the event and easy to follow when one wants to recreate the special meal at home. The outdoor patio seating is covered for the warm summer days and heaters and blankets are brought out for the fall parties. The only complaint would be, if a member, not always easy to get a time/date in particular. The upside is, when you can't, you can return on a later date typically, for a complementary cheese board to accompany your tastings. read more

We held my husband's Celebration of Life at Cana's Feast this past weekend. It has been our favorite winery for over 20 years and we have been members since our first sip! The past 2 years, due to my husband's health, we have not been able to travel. Cana's Feast is just outside of downtown Carlton, but you feel completely transported as you pull up to this picturesque winery with a row of Cyprus trees and lavender lining the bocce court. The views of the rolling hills provides a relaxing backdrop from your spot on the patio of the golden, Tuscan style tasting room. Friends took me here as part of my birthday celebration because I love all things Italian and favor bigger, bolder reds, especially Barbera and Nebbiolo, over Oregon Pinot. Cana's sources their grapes from the Columbia Valley in Washington, a region known for jammy, full bodied reds, so this was a good choice! Our tasting started with a rose, which was delightful on a sunny summer day, then moved onto the reds. While I enjoyed all the wine, the Cab Franc, with notes of blueberry, dark cherry, pepper, and a hint of herbs, was my favorite. It paired nicely with the charcuterie of cured meats, cheese, olives and dried fruit that we shared. And would be a perfect with a beef, pork or grilled lamb dish. Willamette Valley has no shortage of wineries with more than 700 throughout the valley and growing! While I always enjoy visiting my favorites, it's so much fun to discover new places. Cana's Feast Winery was a solid winery in Oregon's wine country. This was our first stop in the Willamette Valley as my partner's family are members to this fun winery in a beautiful setting. We had reservations in the afternoon on a Saturday and the place was packed since there was a special event for members. Though the building was open, everyone sat out on the patio because the view of the valley is beautiful here! Plus, that's where all the action takes place, with everyone enjoying wine with their dogs and playing cornhole. All of us tried the flight for the day, which rotates out. We were welcomed with a rosato, an Italian rose, which was light and dry, a nice way to start our flight. Then we had a red blend, a sangiovese, a cab franc, merlot and a heavy red blend with a cab sauv base. Since we're red wine fans, all the red ones were good. No complaints. However, if I had to pick a favorite, I'd go with the cab franc, which was bold, heavy and of course, made with Washington grapes, which most of the wines here are made with. That makes a lot of sense why I enjoyed the wines from here! If you're looking for some nice Italian, red wines in the area then Cana's Feast is your jam. Our first exposure to Cana's Feast wines was at the Helvetia Farm Market in Hillsboro. We were given a tasting from a master chef named James. A charming fellow who (if I recall) splashed a 2018 Bricco Red sample. A red blend that I've never tried before. This made us say "Oh that's relaxing! An easy table red that I could cook with or simply drink everyday." Then came the advertisement plug-in lol. And James' recommendation to visit the Cana's Feast tasting room where he will be plating his culinary artistry and wine pairings. Sweet! We could not attend his event, but we did make reservations for a tasting. Here's what this little winery is all about: ~ Upon driving up, it's easy to find, as the entrance is right off the main road. So don't expect a long windy road through a forest. Parking is no problem. ~ Our hostess, Tiffany, greeted us and checked us in. We visited on a hot Saturday afternoon in August where farmers were still cutting hay nearby. Hence making my allergies kick-in and the need to wanna enjoy the wines indoor, versus being out on the terrace with everyone. ~ The views were pretty far, wide, and green. Enjoyable to see, but again killer against my nose and allergies. Plan accordingly with Claritin lol. ~ Jason our server, did an awesome job with the wine flight presentation! We only ordered a Bread & Brie board, but it was perfect. The pairings with the Syrah, Sangiovese, and Mourvèdre were noted as my favorites. ::::: TL;DR ::::: Cana's Feast is a small winery that provides varieties from the Pacific Northwest to Bordeaux to Italian, and to French. This spot is incredible and has so much more character, offering a great experience with pergolas, misters, bocce ball courts, and an epic view of the valley beyond. The wine is incredible! And doesn't drain the bank account. It's hard to go elsewhere and not compare the taste and price to other wines in the area or even other wine areas. My husband and I had a great, nearly private, tasting on a hot evening in Carlton. So great that it's walkable to the restaurants and was close to our hotel just down the street! No need to drive. We've been trying to stop at this place the last couple of times we've come through town. One of the last ones there was a huge event here with several wine tour limos parked in front. We elected to pass on that day. Today it was a bit busy and not near as sunny (well, it is November after all). We walked in and it was really crowded but the team of servers kept the tasting moving. They will credit you your $10 tasting feel back when you purchase over $40 worth of wine. I'm sure you all know by now...no problem here. They don't create many pinot noirs but the one we tasted there was very tasty and one of our purchases. For $25 it was a tasty one and the price wasn't too over the top. The acoustics in the tasting room are quite loud so any amount of talking makes it echo in there. So, it can get loud in a hurry. A busy Saturday such as the one we visited and it's going to be a din in there. So, just know that going in that hearing what is being said is going to be a challenge in a large group. We tasted our wines and it was too loud in there so I went outside (it was raining but not bad) and said on a bench just outside. A guy that was a passenger in one of the limo's visiting that day was walking toward the limo, saw me come out, turned and walked back to be and asked me my name, I told him, he said, nice to meet you and staggered back to his limo. The cork necklace he was wearing should have been my first clue. Anyway, I guess anything can happen while visiting a winery. I would definitely come back again and try some of their small plates. There is some nice seating outside for better weather. All in all a good and somewhat odd (toward the end) visit. read more

In a rough day of wine tasting, this place was a beacon of light. Beautiful facility! Knowledgeable friendly staff. I think the woman who was pouring could have made dirt sound interesing, but luckily their wine was extremely tasty. No white wine here! It's all about the reds! I liked everything I tried which is pretty rare but my three faves were: Nebbiolo Barbera Mountain Cuvee They have a restaurant that is currently open Friday and Saturday as well as Sunday brunch. I didn't get to try the food but the menu looks delicious and the chef offers cooking classes. The wine club has a few different levels and appears to be a good value. What? Someone who is producing more than Pinot Noir in Willamette Valley? Get the fuck out of here. But yes, Virginia, it's true. Cuneo has Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Bordeaux style blends, and Syrah. Most of which are quite good. They offer two flights, a regular and a library flight. I recommend trying both (there is an extra fee)... the library wines are well worth it. The also offer Pinot Noir, of course... but if you're burnt out on that (yes I know.. not possible..but humor me) it's worth a stop here for a change of pace. Sweet little tasting room, helpful staff and again, one of the few (at this time) open during the off-season. read more

I was thrilled when our wine tour bus pulled us up to this lovely Spanish style villa. My pallet was thrilled when I tried their 2013 Primitivo which is comprised of strawberry, boysenberry, fig and cigar ash and spicy tobacco. Okay, the last 2 were ingredients sound weird, but the wine did not taste like ash or cigar and just had a hint of those flavors when you sniffed at your glass. No joke, it was my favorite wine because of the smokey taste. But then, I love anything hickory or mesquite flavored and buy liquid smoke for cooking meats. After a few tastings, we went outside to sit on the patio and eat the cheese and breads we had brought along, which went very well with the glasses of reds we purchased. I chose them for one of our Sunday afternoon stops because of their Italian and Rhone blends, which aren't common for the Carlton area, but I thought their Rosato, a dry, fruit forward Rose, was surprisingly good. Cana's Feast Winery brings Italian varietals and attitude to the Willamette Valley. Just outside of Carlton the winery shares its home with a full service Mediterranean restaurant. While I have not eaten there I have heard good things. The grounds are well manicured and views vast, best appreciated from the large outside patio. A unique touch is the clay bed bocce courts out front which encourage you to grab a bottle and go throw your balls around. Walk through a side entrance to find the elongated tasting room with bar almost running its length. I found a lot of people this day who were loud and boisterous therefore the service was spotty, unless of course you were waving your wallet around. The wines are produced using fruit sourced from Washington mainly in the Columbia Valley. I don't even think they produce white wines? What they do produce are big, powerful, full-bodied reds with rich fruits and chewy mouth feel. The staff while knowledgeable was fairly arrogant; I felt they wanted to correct rather than to educate. Other than listening to scientific facts I tuned them out to let the wines do the talking. The ones that spoke the most clearly were the Sangiovese, Barbera, Two Rivers and Nebbiolo. Each had a very consistent fruit profile where tastes of dark cherries, fig, allspice, cassis, mocha or oak intermingled. Most were heavy handed tipping the scales near or well past 15% alcohol yet had very balanced acidity. I think my favorite was the Nebbiolo, athough not available at the time all it took was a little coaxing to convince them to sell me a few bottles. Other than rarity its allure was its ability to pack one hell of a tannic punch toward my taste buds! I love me some stiff tannins. While I had wished for friendlier service I can't ignore the wines quality which offsets the experience. So even though I love Pinot when you're looking for something more substantial Cana's Feast is a step in the right direction. read more

Not just another stop for NW Pinot! Cana's Feast Winemaker Patrick Taylors' ambitious use of Italian Varietals makes this winery unique among the many choices in the YC area. Chief among the accomplishments is the release of Taylors' Chinato. If you get a chance to talk to Patrick about this Vermouth you will easily find the connection from maker to wine. His passion for the use of herbs, spices and aromatics stems from a love of cooking, and he has cooked up something very special here. I walked away with an '09 Primitivo which is still young and tight, but even in it's immaturity is delightfully spicy and bold. A good, solid winery in the middle of Winetown USA. They have a Pinot Noir that's really unique, and a Syrah that's out of this world. They have a nice selection that ranges from Not-cheap-but-definitely-affordable to Tastes-great-but-I-want-to-pay-the-mortgage-this-month. I believe the tasting fee is $10 for 6 or 7 wines. And although they didn't expressly tell me they were going to, when I bought two bottles they waived both our tasting fees, which was a pleasant surprise. I've already reviewed their wines which I love but yesterday my husband and I went there for lunch and what a fabulous surprise it was. The only caveat I have: make reservations if you're interested. They get really busy. That aside the menu is fresh and local and perfectly sized for lunch. Plus they kindly recommend pairings with their wines. I started with peaches wrapped in prosciutto and grilled served on arugula. It was so good that despite promising my husband a bite I inhaled the entire portion. The peaches were perfectly ripe the prosciutto crispy and the flavor both smoky and fresh. My husband had the pate with red onion jam and while I am not a big pate fan the blend of its richness with the sweetness of the jam was delicious. For my entree I had fresh corn puree soup with crab and an orange infused olive oil. Wow. I'm not sophisticated enough to do this dish justice but the orange and olive oil against the corn and crab- all sweet but in such different ways. Again no sharing. Given how much we like their wine and now their lunch there may be a dinner update in my future! read more

Our midday stop was at Cana's Feast Winery in Carlton. Cana's Feast is not only a full operational winery but also a superb place to enjoy a wine country repast. Cana's Enoteca lunch most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer was just what we wanted, for a long leisurely lunch outside of a Tuscan style villa and grounds. I take from their web page, At Cana's Feast Winery, Resident Chef Lisa Lanxon lets the season and local ingredients inspire her menus of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Her approach is to source the best products available and prepare them with an Italian sensibility, highlighting them with pure flavors to let their character shine. The Cucina is a scratch kitchen where everything is made by hand, from bread and pasta to chutneys and jams. "It is the only way I know how to cook." In the summer, the Enoteca menu is driven by what is ripe at the moment in the winery garden. The garden is planted and worked by master gardener Brittney Deming. "It is a privilege to work with someone as passionate about their work as Brittney. She is committed to organic gardening and works tirelessly to make sure our garden is as pure as it can be. I love to arrive early in the morning, walk down to the garden and chat with Brittney about which vegetables are ready to harvest and make their way onto the menu." I've been going here for a couple of years and it's always a thrill. On this trip we started with, Chicken Liver Pate and Red Onion Jam with toasted French bread and Mixed Antipasti of Proscuitto di Parma, Gorgonzola Dolce, oil cured tomatoes, roasted garlic, pan tossed almonds and warm olives, yum, yum. For our main or "Secondi" course we had, Carlton Farms pork burger with Peperoncini Aioli, olive tapenade and Arugula on toasted handmade bun. There was also a delightful Couscous with garlic, sun dried tomato and cilantro. Our other treat was, Pan fried Razor clams, Arugula, Moroccan olives, preserved lemon caper Aioli, give this a triple yum, the best clams I've ever had! There are also their superb wines by the bottle or glass and if you don't mind the walk into the tasting room for $5.00 you can taste five of their wines, which are a real treat with lunch. The winery offers formal coursed dinners and less formal shared-table dinners also wine maker dinners, great stuff. They even have two bocce ball or lawn bowling courts outside, fun.
