I can't go to my local one due to the crowds. This is pretty straightforward with quite a few farm vendors. I was especially delighted with the farm selling apples because most of the offerings you cannot get in a store. I do get that the produce is top notch, however, you will definitely feel this in your wallet if you are on a budget. They do have a normal $20 for $40 deal for SNAP recipients (you take $20 on your SNAP card and receive $40 in tokens you can use for produce) BUT, there was a special deal for this week receiving $20 for only $1 on your SNAP card plus as senator was giving out an additional $25. Most of the vegetables I bought were 3 x the amount I would have paid at grocery store. Also there is the time to consider. I highly recommend a Farmers Market, especially this one, but if you are on a tight budget, I feel like you would want to spend your money more effectively. There were several very interesting looking vendors, including a person who makes lanterns out of old propane tanks. How fun! There were also two different hot food vendors - one with mini donuts and the other with tacos... seriously what else would you need??? The parking situation is good and bad. I was able to get a spot really close to the entrance but all the ADA spaces were taken. I just happened to arrive when someone up front was leaving. The entrance does have a little makeshift ramp but be patient, because it is how everyone goes in. So I found it awkward as people like to stand by entrances of things making it potentially challenging.

Changing the name from "farmer's market" to "street market" was a good one, since there really is a mix of vendors and it isn't dominated by produce. The challenging part about the market is that it feels a bit sparse compared to neighboring markets (Oregon City, Milwaukie, and Lake Oswego). It also snarls up traffic along Willamette Falls Drive on Wednesday evenings. The market has evolved over the past several years and they've tried different formats, including moving it to a different day of the week and a different venue. This is the back-where-it-all-started version of the market and I do like having a hump day event to look forward to in my 'hood during the summer. The market kicks off at 4:00p, but the beer/wine garden, hot food vendors (some booths, others are food carts), and live music start closer to 5:00p and wrap up at 8:00p. The best plan is to stop by one of the local restaurants for a HH cocktail early to get parking and grab a table then finish the evening with a stroll and some shopping. Pick up a fresh bouquet of flowers, farm fresh fruits and veggies, an ice cream from Scoop, or coffee from Transplant Coffee (serving Water Avenue coffee). The vendors may be limited, but they also have a nice selection. I am hoping that the market will continue to grow and thrive and add more vendors. They are doing a great job publicizing the market and including different special events (cake walk, rummage sale, etc.) and live music every week.

For years, West Linn has held a farmer's market on Wednesday evenings in the Old Willamette neighborhood. Locals stroll along Willamette Drive mixing and mingling in stores and market stalls, listening to live music and grabbing a bite to eat. It feels more like a neighborhood block party than a full blown farmer's market. For that I go to Lake Oswego, Milwaukie or Oregon City. This year a second market came to town. To make things really confusing, the Willamette Saturday Farmers Market took the URL of the West Linn Farmer's Market that still operates on Wednesdays and has a new website (http://westlinnfarmersmarket.org/). If the West Linn Farmer's Market is small, then the Willamette Saturday Farmers Market is tiny. At first I wasn't sure if it was even operating since there is no activity on the street. While there is a nice banner in front of the Historic Willamette General Store, you need to walk through the general store and the hardware store to the back courtyard to find the market. And I have trouble calling it a market since it is comprised of about three tables with a few folks selling limited produce and merchandise from 19th Street Farms, Ek Farms and other local businesses. The low rating is primarily due to the selection of produce and number of vendors in relation to other farmers markets in the area. I would actually characterize this more as a farm stand. Nothing against the vendors or the quality of the merchandise, it is just really hard to find and limited in scope. They are wrapping up for the season in October. It will be interesting to see if they expand operations next year. 2013 schedule: 11a-4pm starting in late May - October.

Interacting with vendors is a friendly experience and they are more than happy to answer any questions you have. It was raining a little bit, but hey, it's Portland. I came prepared with a windbreaker. It wasn't that bad though. I walked throughout the Market and looked at the offerings. There was a lot of 3-d printed items and crocheted items. Unfortunately I didn't have much money to spend so I window shopped a bit then I went back to Ocean Drive...they were really good and I gave them a good tip. It was definitely a really nice and relaxing way to spend a couple hours.

My reason for four stars is the parking situation. The market is so huge and the lack of parking is what keeps me away. Nothing but street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods and many of the neighbors aren't happy about it and sometimes downright hostile (who can blame them?) Even the handicapped parking is woefully inadequate. Definitely worth a visit despite the parking issues.

It took 3 of us about 45 minutes to pick 11 pounds of blueberries! And it only cost us about $22 if I remember correctly. Such a bargain! And what amazing customer service. Really great place!
