I had a wonderful experience at the Kiwanis Thrift Store in Canby. The volunteer staff worked diligently to insure a welcoming and helpful environment, in a small, but busy store. They had a great selection of clothes, shoes, jewelry, household items, sporting goods, and furniture. The store is clean, and didn't have that musty smell so many second hand retailers have. I couldn't get over all the deals I found, only made better by the 50% off storewide on Thursdays. This is a hidden gem, and well worth the visit. read more

I look at all these negative reviews and I seriously can't help but laugh, or shake my head. The prices are high, but if you just go on Thursdays, literally everything in the entire store is half off! Yes, even furniture. This thrift store uses all their proceeds to give back to the community of Canby. Very few organizations can say that. They helped fund the repaving of the CHS track that was in such poor repair that the high-school almost had to bow out of track and field for the year. They provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of area families, as well as Christmas food baskets and Thanksgiving food baskets. Just google "Canby Kiwanis donated" and be blown away by the sheer magnitude of their efforts to give back to the community. I'd like to add: If you do not adhere to the expiration date on any free service, who's fault is that? How are you so busy that you can't make a call to the organization that gave the voucher, and explain what you just explained here? How is that Kiwanis fault? Do you have any idea how exact the books of a non-profit must be kept? You can't just simply wave it off. The IRS won't simply wave it off and an entire organization could be shut down because you couldn't find time to contact the voucher issuer and get the voucher replaced. Who is being unreasonable here? Imagine the number of women in the exact same domestic violence situation, not being able to get this help, because the organization had been shut down for waving off one expiration date. Yeah, it probably wouldn't happen over one...but also imagine how many times this has happened? Maybe the issuer should extend the date? At the end of the day, this organization is an integral part of the community and will continue to give back to the community as long as the community continues to shop and support this local non-profit thrift store. Yes, the prices are higher than Goodwill, but what did Goodwill do lately to help support the city of Canby? Not only are you buying an item, you are donating to low income families, the community, domestic violence victims and many other organizations that rely on the donations from Kiwanis to survive and thrive. This used to be my favorite thrift store, but high prices and rude staff keep me away now. It didn't used to be this way. The store is also always filthy. Kiwanis does great things for the community, they could do even more if this store wasn't so poorly run. read more

Once a fine little small town thrift shop, but no longer. The manager is rude and condescending and the prices are borderline outrageous. It's MORE expensive than Goodwill....a notoriously high priced vendor. There are some very pleasant employees still, but bad management always leads to poor employees given time. read more

Great resource for non-fiction books. Come in on Fridays and get 50% off books. They sell novels, too, but the non-fiction section is stronger (Canby readers have great non-fiction tastes and donate newish books on a monthly basis). The kitchen section is interesting, too, with clay pots and pottery throughout the year. Still, it's hard to beat hard cover books for $1, regular price. read more

I hate to talk this place up, because it's such a treasure, I don't want to share its offerings with anyone but the existing clientele. Then I remember, this is a REAL charitable organization, that is actually contributing and donating for the benefit of the community. Anyways. This place is bad ass, there are great bargains to be had. It's not a huge store with a Goodwill sized selection, but there are some great finds and there's ample loot to dig through. All the salespeople and management that I've encountered have been delightful and the prices are outstanding. But, if you encounter an item that you feel should be marked lower, you can talk to the manager and she will wheel and deal with you. And I have no doubt if anyone were in a situation where they needed an item and couldn't afford it, they would do whatever they could to accommodate. They have the 50% off color tags like Goodwill, it's a month long thing there, I think January's is 50% off yellow tags. Tuesday is senior citizen discount day. Every week, on Wednesday, all shirts are 50% off. Red tagged items are $1 every day. And, here's the clincher.... every Thursday, the entire store is 50% off. And their regular prices are already a bargain. So, pretty much everyone goes shopping at the beginning of the week and makes a game plan with how they're gonna dash and grab their items on Thursday. You'll want to come early, as there's a line outside the door before they open. I got a beautiful set of Waterford ice tea goblets for $6, A practically brand new Coleman 6 man EZ pop up tent that retailed for $128 on Amazon for $10. Which I immediately turned and sold to someone else for $40. There's lots of Nike workout gear, regularly priced about $6-7 dollars, so it's a real bargain on Thursdays. Oodles of dishes and glassware and some really nice furniture. So, I'm not sure what the reviewers are referring to calling it "overpriced junk", it's not that, AT ALL. Come check it out, you'll be impressed. Or stay away, and leave it all for meeeeeee. read more

This is a fun store. You never know what you'll find here and their prices seem reasonable. I didn't go there in 2019 so maybe I don't know about rude employees but everyone seemed nice when I was there. They have a lot of stuff in that store. We happened to hit it when they were having a half-off sale so we were thrilled. Give it a try and see for yourself, you don't have anything to lose. read more

This store has wonderful things, quality furniture and other large items. Also used to have a great knick knack area, very lean looking today. Store is clean enough. PRICES ARE UTTERLY RIDICULOUS. THAT'S NOT THRIFT STORE, THAT IS high end pricing, purposefully misleading calling this thrift shopping. Its like a resale shop or consignment shop. Whomever is in charge of pricing is pricing them right out of their bread and butter, LOW INCOME folks. Its a shame to see. read more

This place is a complete ripoff. There were 2 barbies from the dollar store 2 minutes away from this store and they had them priced for 6.95 each! Everything is marked up by at least 70 percent. Not only that but it is just people's trash. I love making things out of stuff people throw away which is why I love thrift stores, but this place is just overpriced junk. I had just left an abusive husband with my 2 young kids. I had no job and no money. I was staying with a friend in a spare room. Me and the kids left with nothing. No clothes, baby bottles, toys. My 5 year old was in Headstart in Barlow and the student/parent advocate gave me a form and told me to list what I needed and bring it in to Kiwanis Canby Thrift store and they will provide the items free of charge. I filled out the list, including items we desperately needed - warm winter coats, shirts and pants for the kids, shoes - nothing frivolous or unnecessary. It indicated on the list that I had 30 days from the time the advocate wrote a date in. I was dealing with so much at that time. My abusive ex had found out where I lived and was stalking me, drove by my house constantly, put screws in my tires, changed the starter relays out while we slept - so that I had to unplug my car battery every time I turned the engine off so it didn't die. I had to go to court for restraining order hearings, I had to meet with Clackamas Womens Services, make Dr's appointments for my kids (1 year old had numerous medical problems) I was experiencing PTSD in the extreme. I couldn't eat or sleep. I would lay in bed clenching my teeth every night for hours. It was a very, very bad time. So when I finally got the time to go in to Kiwanis with the list I was 3 days past the 30 day mark. I walked in and found the nearest worker. I gave her my list and explained I would clean the bathrooms or anything in exchange for the items. I was nervous, asking for help was difficult. She looked as if she had never seen that form before. She didn't smile. She said ok...so I went straight to the kids clothes, found a coat asked my 5 year old to try it on...then the lady came back over to me, told me I was too late and that they wouldn't give me the items. She didn't say she was sorry. I was VERY embarrassed. I had never felt that embarrassed in my entire life. I'm not able to afford a coat for my son....in the winter. I was a bit dumfounded, I didn't say anything. I left the store immediately and buckled my kids in and could not hold back the tears in the parking lot, trying to hide my tears my kids. This happened two years ago. I have never forgotten this horrific experience and I never will. I have a fantastic job now. I can afford the things that my kids need. I received incredible help from Clackamas Womens Services. I have a stalking order against my ex. Life is SO much better. But this experience is going down as one of the worst and most difficult of my entire life. read more

Been to this shop regularly for many years and the staff is always helpful and pleasant. Prices close to other thrift stores and the shop and products are clean and in very good condition. We love this business, it is our preferred place to shop and donate. They help the community in many different ways. Our grandson had some issues as a teenage and he was able to do his community service here. They were kind and helpful. read more

Prices outrageous!!!! There was an item for sale listed at $ 179.00 Major parts were missing, and other parts were so worn-out that replacement would be needed before it would work. I thought perhaps there was a mistake in the price. The response came from the store manger whom gave me a copy of the item listed on E Bay supporting the marked price. I went home and looked up the item on the internet using my paid subscribed data base "Worthpoint" which reports what an item has actually SOLD for. There were several matching the picture and description including the model most had all parts intact and were described as "working". The SOLD price was on the average 50% less and this was for working models. I realize that pricing 100's of items is a challenge, however, using E Bay ASKING price is often more than what an item has actually SOLD for. I wish the store manager was more approachable, because I would have rather discussed this matter with her. Kiwanis is a excellent organization and does much to support many service organizations, however, someone needs to change using ASKING prices listed to a national market vs local (Canby) market as a basis to identify a fair price. This would really benefit this Thrift store and It"s mission. read more
