I was pleasantly surprised by this thrift store! They've got a small parking lot off of 82nd. Walking in, the first thing you notice is how clean it smells and looks. The aisles are wide and there's plenty of space between clothing racks. The racks are organized. Imagine that. They've got a huge assortment of clothing, especially kids clothing. They have a lot of home goods and decor, which is slightly less organized, and a small selection of larger furniture pieces. Staff were accessible. I'm not in this area often, but when I am I will certainly add this shop to my thrifting rotation. read more

I'm going to update and upgrade my review. I've been back a few times since my last review. Luckily it hasn't been on a hot day. The reason I keep coming back is the amount of clothing available and their fair prices. I have found excellent quality ladies jeans recently. And the men's selection is huge! Also lots of large men's sizes available for the big guys. I wish they had a bench or chair in the dressing rooms. read more

Glad I found this place. I've shopped thrift stores like Value Village and Goodwill for years. Goodwill has been the only option in my area and I quit shopping there due to overly high prices, poor service, and intrusive and annoying security at the fitting rooms. That being said Deseret Industries is the opposite. First they have separated their racks making them more accessible and organized than other places. You have shirts organized by long and short sleeve and dress and woven. Pants are also on three different sections. When you want to try on clothes you don't have to ring a loud bell and wait for someone to come over and count your items. You simply walk in and check the fit. When you walk in they great you. There is also help available and easily accessible. The prices are better too. A nice sport jacket set me back 10 bucks. Dress shirts that retail at 70 or higher cost less than 10 there. They do have some new clothing too. Suits and winter jackets priced reasonably. The only thing I don't like is the return policy. You only get in-store credit. I do understandably this is and it's understandable and acceptable. I have and will be back to this little gem of a thrift store. read more

The Mormons and I go way back. WAY back. My best friend growing up was a Mormon, and so I was exposed to all sorts of crazy ass cult-like behavior when I hung out with his family and friends (and they have some huge families). It really was a lot like that South Park episode about the Mormons. The families were always super tight, they were all way beyond nice and welcoming, everyone loved each other a lot, and, well, it was frickin' creepy how wholesome and adjusted and happy they were. Trey Parker and Matt Stone nailed that one. Don't get me wrong, I have MAD love for my friend's family. They were always so awesome to me. Also, the more I learned about their religion, the more I realized how totally insane it is (but to be fair, pretty much all organized religions are insane to me - the books themselves mostly read the same and have some great lessons in them, but they always get distorted by megalomaniacs in organized form). Yes, I found my way into a couple of services. It always happened so serruptitiously. "Oh gee, look, we're on our way to service. Wanna join, and then we'll all go for ice cream?" "Oh, sure! I love ice cream! So, uh, what's all this about 3 different levels of heaven? And how many wives did Joseph Young have?" But really, I can't hate on people for being insanely happy, healthy, and well-adjusted... even if it is creepy. As long as they're not pulling any Warren-Jeffs-style polygamous pedo-incest shit they can do whatever they want. But I digress.... Deseret Industries is the business arm of the Church of Latter Day Saints (aka LDS, aka the Mormons). They have a network of thrift stores all over the nation, presumably to collect vast sums of money from the unwashed heathens (me) and send it back to the mother-ship (Salt Lake City) to fund their diabolical plan to, uh, convert middle class white kids with brazen promises of ice cream and family game nights... and... again... I digress... So this outlet of Deseret Industries (aka the Beehive) has some insane deals. I came here based on the other reviews I read on Yelp, and they're pretty much 100% on point. There are some awesome finds here, and they cost, well, not much. I mean really. A gigantic 40+ ounce glass snifter for $1.75? That would cost a heathen at least $7 at the Goodwill. Not at the Beehive. (On a side note, the "beehive" thing is a little Borg-like). Tons of $.75 cent glassware? Word. I found all sorts of insane steals in the glassware section alone. So much so, that next time I'm looking to do some thrifting fer realz (this run I was on a mission for specific items) I'll have to come and browse the stacks for a while... ...as long as that crazy-looking lady in the pilgrim dress and the bonnet stops staring at me. Overall, I see the potential for amazing deals at this thrift store... who cares if my money is going to Salt Lake City? Solid Four Stars! Pros... Like their dressing room concept: self-serve, head on in with green vacancy indicator. I wish more thrift stores would do this. Good prices - prices are very reasonable. Cons.. Parking lot sucks..narrow stretch with two way traffic and small parking spots. Neutral... Staff are a bit robotic.... Suggestions.. Some clothes racks are jam-packed. I suggest they get on the stick with discounting by color tags like their competitors. They are already using them. This will clear inventory out quicker. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. I found a good selection of men's clothes and good labels too. I guess I was stereotyping Mormons...they run a good business model. Just look what they have done with all those casinos! read more

A new favorite. I have been to the one DI in California and remember it being "ok", the prices were cheap though. Now, this location, was great! Prices are SO CHEAP in comparison to goodwill. I didn't have time to really go through the clothing - I did a quick swipe through, prices are low BUT there wasn't much I actually liked! I'm sure if I had more time and energy to dig through, I might have found something I like. However I did check the home stuff, found so much wicker and plant pots for 1.00 or less. Goodwill or value village charges 3-4$ sometimes for this stuff! So good for me! Check it out. read more

This is the best thrift store on 82nd. The place is brightly lit, everything is clean and smell free unlike some thrift stores I've been too. They have a section of new furniture that is very well priced. It's made by clients and sold to benefit the community that made it. The selection is outstanding nothing looks over-worn or damaged they do a great job sorting their donations. The have ample parking and an over fill lot but I've never seen it full. This location also helps people obtain employment. read more

THIS PLACE IS PISS. It sucks! Walked in here today. Looked at "mens stuff". Didn't find anything. The coolest or most pop culture was a '90s HANSON SUCKS t-shirt. They have new socks, undies and crap in the back behind glass. I couldn't figure that out. It's funny, weird, creepy. Some dude with a shave head that works here was eyeing me going around the store. I don't know what that sh*t was about. F**kin creep! They have cd's, tapes, a bunch of 8-tracks, a special religion of tapes section next to the 8-tracks. BUT NO LP's!!!!! F**K!!!!!!!!!! That's pretty much why I went here. To find some old music for cheap. 1960's or 1950's most likely. The sounds that are worth picking up but regular people wouldn't give a f**k. I'm a dude w/ taste for trash. They have other sections like babys, women. I'm not though. Not gonna sift through that. Someone else probably wrote something swell about that. They have a funny, or not so much, it's in another room though, section called "yard area". I saw some bikes hanging up and thought I might score something good finally. I really want a nice BMX, year doesn't exactly matter, anything would be cool to pickup at a good price, under $20 hopefully... since it's a thrift store. Nope. No good bikes. There was a shellac'd thin piece of some type of old box featuring an American flag and some numbers from the box and whatever else is on the side of a box. They had $17.99 on it. It's glued to a piece of wood. The thing was dumb. It was just the side of a box glued to a board. Nothing creative in the least and just because it's 40 or 50 years old and maybe a piece of retarded folk art doesn't mean a high price. Those shellacs are the worst IMO. They just look terrible. The things would be worth more if they'd just kept the picture. RANDOM INFORMATION. I wouldn't waste my time. Go here maybe once if live in the area to say you've been. The selection in everything (clothes) is very small compared to other places or maybe just the mostly junk place I frequent. They only had about 35 shirts in my size. This place or pretty much anywhere along 82nd is a b*tch to get back onto the road from. Cars coming for like 3 minutes straight. It's not worth the long wait to get back on the road just to go in for a few minutes to be really let down. *Deseret Industries is the thrift store in Napoleon Dynamite. (Jon Heder is Mormon. I don't know if they used it for that reason or if it was the only thrift store in the area. ) Giving 2*'s. I'd buy a cup here or something. Not for beer! This is the BEST thrift store ever. I go for certain things, and they always have those certain things for much less expensive than the other thrift stores on the 82nd strip. I am not going to tell you what those things are so I can continue to get them. I hope that doesn't make me a meanie. They organize their clothes by size AND by color, so it is easy to find something lovely. They also have a lot of vintage clothes tucked in those racks, so make sure you go digging! It is a Mormon thrift store, so don't go looking for any Harlequin romance novels here, you hear? And don't make my mistake and ask about them either! read more

This is one of those places that thinks just because we're in a pandemic, somehow people don't need to use the restroom anymore. They have no problems letting people rummage through their piles of junk while not enforcing social distancing between customers and employees. They have no problems with their employees just wearing a mask only over their mouth and not their nose. But god forbid you go use the toilet and maybe actually get to wash your hands. I have multiple sclerosis so when I need to use the restroom it's actually pretty serious. When I asked an employee if I could use one they were rude and said no. This store is well priced, organized and budget friendly. Unfortunately, if you have children this may not be the place for you. I had a horrific experience with an employee who said very cruel things and was bossy with my child for I fear she confused my son with another boy who was very hyper in the store at the same time. Their prices are BY FAAAAAR the cheapest compared to it's thrifty 82nd buddies (salvation army, goodwill) You gotta dig around a bit -but hey! isn't that half the fun of thrifting?! This store is clean and bright, nice staff and they have an ADORABLE kid clothing section, the best selection and prices of ANY thrift store I have been to, and I love to go thrift store hunting! It's really expensive. I get the cause - but $8 for used jeans is ridiculous! I bought 2 new pillows (still in bags!) for $6 each...went to Kohl's and found new pillows for $5. I have several other GO-TO places that have way better prices AND stuff. read more

However, even with confirmation numbers, our appointment was not honored, and because people with no appointments had been dropping off donations before us, there was no more room for our donations. Clothing wise, I've never found anything for myself or my husband here. We're semi-young and semi-hip... I'm probably just spoiled by the big Goodwill on 6th. That said! They have an AMAZING babies/kids section. Like another reviewer said, it's the best in the area, if not in town. The prices are SO reasonable, too. Baby Gap, Zutano, Osh Kosh... for $2-4/piece. I saw a pair of See Kai Run shoes for $4! I've browsed the other sections (dishes, housewares, books...) and haven't found anything. This thrift shop is nice in that it is clean and well-kept. The staff seemed to have a pretty good attitude. I thought the clothes were reasonably priced. I like to peruse their crafty aisle. Never been but their "security" needs better training. Today was a holiday and the donation center wasn't open. You could see where people had left behind various items beside the building. There was a man obviously in need, be it homeless or extremely below poverty, rummaging through some of the items. Another man pulled up in an unmarked Honda Accord and got out. He was wearing a "Portland Security" black tshirt and began yelling at the man rummaging. Then with no reason the "security gaurd" ran over to him and threw the rummaging man on the ground, trying to pin him. My wife advised she was recording and I called police. The "security" said it was ok that he was with the LDS. The security guard then, knowing he was in the wrong, let him up. The rummager left and then the so called "security" took off before police arrived. The police were able to verify that the rummager had every right to go through the stuff that was dropped read more

This is the best thrift store that I've been to in PDX. Their prices are completely reasonable, I bought 4 wooden chairs for $12, a bench for $15 and the list goes on. The staff is super friendly and they have practically furnished my home. It can be pretty busy on the weekend, so be warned. But if you know how to spot a good bargain, then you'll be able to navigate this place just fine. I haven't had time to check out their clothes yet, but it seems like whenever I've been in for home furnishings there are new clothes arranged and the quantities are always really high. read more

i love this little mormon thrift store. i am quite the second hand aficionado (i am really trying not to buy anything made in sweatshops, so thrift stores it is) and portland in general has a lot of picked-over, way over-priced stores. too many poor hipsters, i suppose. well, i don't think they have discovered deseret because every time i go there it is me and a bunch of old women, scoring sweet deals. the clothes themselves aren't exactly stellar, but the prices on everything is so sweet i find myself walking away with tons of craft supplies, records, books, furniture, and recently baby clothes (i just had a baby and they have really cute, really clean outfits for .50-1.00!). i hope this place continues to stay hidden. the salvation army on 82nd just opened and in comparison looks like a sparse, expensive department store from 1983. deseret is where it's at. read more

I once furnished my entire house for under $150. This included a grey formica table with matching chairs, a living room in full rusty orange colors: a sofa bed, a puffy velveteen chair (still have that one; can't give it up!), a moderne slat-topped coffee table, a groovy mirrored clock and other fun stuff.
