The Mormons and I go way back. WAY back. My best friend growing up was a Mormon, and so I was exposed to all sorts of crazy ass cult-like behavior when I hung out with his family and friends (and they have some huge families). It really was a lot like that South Park episode about the Mormons. The families were always super tight, they were all way beyond nice and welcoming, everyone loved each other a lot, and, well, it was frickin' creepy how wholesome and adjusted and happy they were. Trey Parker and Matt Stone nailed that one. Don't get me wrong, I have MAD love for my friend's family. They were always so awesome to me. Also, the more I learned about their religion, the more I realized how totally insane it is (but to be fair, pretty much all organized religions are insane to me - the books themselves mostly read the same and have some great lessons in them, but they always get distorted by megalomaniacs in organized form). Yes, I found my way into a couple of services. It always happened so serruptitiously. "Oh gee, look, we're on our way to service. Wanna join, and then we'll all go for ice cream?" "Oh, sure! I love ice cream! So, uh, what's all this about 3 different levels of heaven? And how many wives did Joseph Young have?" But really, I can't hate on people for being insanely happy, healthy, and well-adjusted... even if it is creepy. As long as they're not pulling any Warren-Jeffs-style polygamous pedo-incest shit they can do whatever they want. But I digress.... Deseret Industries is the business arm of the Church of Latter Day Saints (aka LDS, aka the Mormons). They have a network of thrift stores all over the nation, presumably to collect vast sums of money from the unwashed heathens (me) and send it back to the mother-ship (Salt Lake City) to fund their diabolical plan to, uh, convert middle class white kids with brazen promises of ice cream and family game nights... and... again... I digress... So this outlet of Deseret Industries (aka the Beehive) has some insane deals. I came here based on the other reviews I read on Yelp, and they're pretty much 100% on point. There are some awesome finds here, and they cost, well, not much. I mean really. A gigantic 40+ ounce glass snifter for $1.75? That would cost a heathen at least $7 at the Goodwill. Not at the Beehive. (On a side note, the "beehive" thing is a little Borg-like). Tons of $.75 cent glassware? Word. I found all sorts of insane steals in the glassware section alone. So much so, that next time I'm looking to do some thrifting fer realz (this run I was on a mission for specific items) I'll have to come and browse the stacks for a while... ...as long as that crazy-looking lady in the pilgrim dress and the bonnet stops staring at me. Overall, I see the potential for amazing deals at this thrift store... who cares if my money is going to Salt Lake City? Back in the late 80's, some other heathen's money bought me ice cream once...

Vast selection, the best vintage in Portland! When I visit, I plan on at least 45 minutes because there is so much to see! I walk around the entire footprint then turn around and walk the other direction because different items will catch your eye. If you are seeking an occasional chair, they have so many styles and cool pieces. Wish I had room for more! They just don't make these styles anymore or of the same quality. They usually have a large selection of couches also in shades of teal, orange, avocado just like on The Brady Bunch. Even plaid, if that's your thing. And of course boomerang shaped coffee tables to complete your seating area. There are so many unique one of a kind pieces too, like an upright piano transformed into a bar. OMG, I wish I had the space for it! What I always have room for is unique bar ware and glasses and they have lots to choose from. Lots of metal and sculptural wall art which really gives a room personality especially when complimenting paintings or prints. They have a large selection of table lamps but it's the hanging pendants that I really love. Perusing this store ignites so many memories! I see items that take me back to my childhood home, pieces I haven't thought about in years. My face lights up remembering a curved side table, a Sputnik light and metal flower wall art similar to what adorned our den. Or a set of whiskey sour glasses like the ones my dad drank from, prints on pillows that are in photographs in my family album. Furniture that over years made it's way to our basement and then probably a vintage shop like Hawthorne Modern! Love, love, love this place! They moved to SE Alder but the charm, the selection, the finds are all still there!

I…read moretalked to the young man working and he confirmed that the shop is made up of multiple vendors who all have their own curated style. Great price points all the way around. I went in to follow-up on something my daughter had seen and wanted. I'm not exactly their customer demographic and it was a little bit of unchartered territory, but the blond kid working knows his merch. I gave him a description of the item I was looking for and he led me right to it. Based upon what my daughter had chosen, he was able to point me in the direction of a couple of other items she might like - and she did! Super nice people working here. So refreshing to have shopkeepers engage. Customer service seems to have fallen by the wayside, I think as a result of COVID and this place is bringing it back! Clean, tidy and organized shop with great people there to help if you need it. Definitely worth a look if vintage is your thing.

I've only seen a few pieces that are questionable like why is it $30+ for a tee with a giant hole on the back side They do buy clothes, it's by appointment only though. I sold here once definitely won't do it again though. You can take 25 pieces at a time looking for y2k and if you got it larger sizes. I took about 20 tees, older but clean and definitely y2k, 2 jackets and 3 hats. Dude said $60 for it?! I took it because I needed the money but I won't be doing that again. I wouldn't recommend this place at all if you are trying to sell but definitely worth it if your buying
