When I was ready to come in a solidify my order Megan made herself available. The cake was just as beautiful as I could have possibly imagined. My daughters face lit up with joy when she saw it. As a mother I couldn't have been happier. The customized fruit was perfect and yummy. The star was the actual cake. When we cut into the cake initially it looked dry or the color was a little off to the whole family. However the cake was honestly the best we have ever had. Take it from the fat girl, that cake was the best I ever had. It was chocolate but not over powering and moist but still maintained texture in my mouth. It was the perfect amount of sweet. More often than not the combination of the cake and frosting is so overwhelmingly sweet that we end up scraping the majority of the frosting off and reserving a little to eat with the actual cake. In this case the frosting to cake ration was spot on. It was a thin coat of frosting but provided full coverage. Thank you for not using fondant. The sweetness of the cake was so mild that it paired amazingly with the fruit. Like pairing cheese with a fine wine. Meg's Silver Palate Cakery has gained yet another customer for life. Top Line: Picked up a Blue Horse fudge bacon brownie $6 at Brendyn's BBQ yesterday along with a meal, saving the brownie as a treat for today. So returned to Brendyn's this afternoon to get tea for eating the brownie. Brownie is seriously heavy!! Very, very moist beneath the layer of baby chocolate chips and extraordinarily tender of crumb. Too much so I found. The block of chocolate cake-like brownie crumbled into pieces as I tried to pick it up. I finally resorted to pinching off small wads of it to pop into my mouth. While being very moist with oil density, the flavor profile was about on par with a supermarket bakery brownie. Plenty of chocolate taste, but minimal (if any) bacon smokiness shining through. Fudge's buttery brown sugar sweetness or cream's richness were likewise AWOL. So I'd say this was a decent $2.50 brownie. But nowhere near justifying the $6 ticket price I paid to get it, in spite of its moistness. If I'm in the neighborhood of Blue Horse's sticks 'n bricks location I may hit them up for a cupcake or some such to see how that flies. But no more brownies from them for me.
