This lovely spot on the Carthage town square is cozy and offers a great variety of dishes. The staff there was very friendly and welcoming and the food was great. We had bacon-wrapped shrimp and grits, and a Reuben sandwich. Everything was cookwd to order in a reasonable amount of time. The interior is very nice with a large collection of antiwues an memorabilia. Quiet and comfy. If someone in your group has mobility issues, be aware that while the restrooms are nice, they arevup a narrow windy set if stairs. read more

Customer Service is lacking at the Texas Tea Room. Cassie Perez told us for weeks the restaurant would be open for our group and with only a week's notice she calls to say they will be closed. She would not listen when trying to speak on the matter and she feels a week's notice is enough time to make other arrangements for our party that has been planned for weeks. This is not how a small business should operate in a small town. Shame on Cassie Perez and Texas Tea Room. read more

Chicken salad was really tasty, the nut bread was top notch. Spinach cranberry salad was very good. I had to ask for my Coke Zero to be changed because it tasted like moldy dirt. I asked for the iced tea, it tasted the same. Obviously the ice machine is terribly moldy inside. I wouldn't drink it in fear of becoming ill. The waitress was very friendly. Don't think I'd eat there again just because of the moldy ice and a few unsettling things I saw when leaving. read more

We are in town due to family illness and have been here for about a month. This is 1 of a handful of places that we will return to eat. I had the BLT with Brie& Apricot Mayonnaise oh my goodness it was so good and my sister had the Reuben she said hands down best she's had. The girls that work there are really great. Wanted to like it, but they weren't open. Read a couple reviews elsewhere that this place has random hours and you'll never know when it's open. Google said they were open and there was no note on their active FB, so called ahead to make sure for dinner. They didn't pick up. Figured we'd drive by still and of course they were closed at 5pm. I actually have never seen this place open when driving by other times, but it looks like they are open according to other reviews. Just wanted to leave this review so you can check before heading there. Unfortunately I don't live in this town, so didn't get to try it and was really craving some things on their menu. Situated on the small town square, this cafe is a real small town gem with big city flavors. I had the mesquite grilled steak salad and it likely was one of the best salads I've ever eaten. My husband rated his a 3 and mine was a 4, but since I could not rate our food a 3 1/2, I gave it a 4. I bumped it up with their customer service being EXCELLENT! We were traveling and called in an order with them being very busy at the time. The wonderful person who answered the phone took the time to answer all my questions and was polite. They were VERY busy, but the online menu was blurry and so we needed some help, she provided it. I had the non-traditional chicken salad sandwich on their homemade nut bread and I would give it a 4. It was not the best I ever had, but it was very ... enjoyable and filling. My husband had the Rueben with sweet potato fries and he gave it a 3. He said it tasted average, but the corned beef was over cooked and dry. He was not crazy about the sweet potato fries, but he too thought the person who helped us, both on the phone and inside, was incredible. I would say if we are ever out that way we would try them again. It is nice to have GREAT customer service and nice to have some of the choices we had off of their menu. read more

We visited here for a Friday lunch with a guest. It was busy but the service was nice and we did not wait too long for our food. Fried Pickles was our appetizer. These are chip type slices but thicker than most so you get more pickle with some thinner batter making it very good. We hate thin pickle chips with thick batter so it's like eating just a piece of crust. No, these were our favorite part of this visit and you get a fairly large basket full and served with ranch. Very Good. Our guest said he would get the catfish. We reminded him there is a menu and he looked through that and still ordered catfish......I wish we had done that too. Our guest said the catfish was salty and just We asked our waitress what was the most popular order there and she said, "Black Pepper Whiskey Beef Medallions." J and I each got those cooked medium and they were okay. Came with mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini slices and I liked those better. They were disappointing. The place is set off the downtown square and has a Country home feel to it. Our visit was okay. We would try again something different. read more

Quaint restaurant with a southern country feel. Greeted by a sweetheart of gal (Joann) with bight blue eyes. The waitress's (Sarah) Food recommendations were spot on. Food served hot and fresh! Our waitress was efficient and sweet. Reasonably priced, liked seeing the locals. We were riding through on our motorcycle (From Florida to Dallas). Such great hospitality, Joann stopped by our table to give me a little good luck ring for our ride home! Thank you!!! Only thing that would have been even better was a cold Beer! Will come again! Under Mark's leadership it has become a staple , local spot in our community . The team is always polite and lots of that Texas service you will love . We get delivery at least once a week to our business; we order everything from the Beef Medallions to the Big Tx Wings (one of my favs) our staff loves Marks fast delivery and great service . We were driving from Vicksburg MS down to The Woodlands TX and decided to go into Carthage TX to see if there was a decent place to grab lunch. Carthage has a delightful town square that reminds one of small town America. As we were driving around the square looking for a parking spot, we saw a young lady walking her dog and asked her if there was a good place to grab lunch. She suggested The Texas Tea Room, so we parked and walked over to the restaurant. We had Gabby, our King Charles Spaniel, so we were happy to note there was some outside seating. Laurie went into the Tea Room to let them know we were outside while I waited outside. As I was waiting, a gentleman was walking by and I asked if this was a good place to eat. He said, "absolutely!" "I'm the owner and I'm going in to eat right now." That was cool. He said he'd go in and make sure someone would be out to help us out. He also came back with water for our dog and dropped off some menus. I asked if he had been in the restaurant business very long. He told me that he was laid off from an oil field job and decided to buy the Tea House. Their special was chicken fajitas, so we ordered those along with a potato soup and salad. The fajitas were tender, but crispy and The blending of the condiments was most tasty. Nice is all I can say. It was wonderful and we enjoyed all of it. Because we had our dog, we had to sit outside and, unfortunately, the sun was on our side of the building, so it got a little hot. But the good food and nice treatment by the owner and staff made up for that little inconvenience. So, if you are going near Carthage TX, make the trip into town and try this place out. I had a half chicken salad sandwich (they had 2 kinds - I had the one with mayo, not cream cheese) and a half pimento. Their homemade bread was great, and the chicken salad was good. The pimento was very heavy with the black pepper, so that's all I tasted. I'd try it again, but wouldn't get the pimento. read more

The food is fine, but my complaint currently is their refusal to let me order what I want, when I want. I had no issue ordering a "Thursday special" on a Friday two weeks ago, but the girl on the phone today said they wouldn't make it because today is Tuesday. You have the ingredients in the kitchen already...I don't see what difference it makes what day of the week it is when you decide to use them. Considering Mondays and Tuesdays are their "slack days" you would think they would be more eager to put out *any* orders regardless of what they are. Obviously not everyone on staff is on the same page when it comes to menu availability. TTR has burned me on this one. I won't be returning. Did not like chicken salad. Fresh ground chicken, but very dry. Everyone has there favorite chicken salad and this is not mine. Everything was very fresh. The lemon vinaigrette was extremely good. Hard to find because sign on corner building says county historical museum. read more

Also, I don't know if this is a Carthage thing but people were looking at me and my friend and whispering (we're not from there) and I know that isn't the restaurant's fault but it made us really uncomfortable. I'm guessing the Texas Tea Room changed owners because the last couple times my family and I ordered dinner it was horrible we use to enjoy eating here the quality has dropped off tremendously. The reuben I got was forgettable at best corn beef looked an odd color and had some kind of mayo on it. Mayo really??? I felt like I was playing a game of Russian roulette eating this thing.
