This review is a long time coming. Steve and Silke are wonderful. Steve is amazing with dogs (a true pro) and Silke has excellent communication. They boarded our greyhound last year during a vacation and went out of their way to ensure our gal was comfortable. They have a great facility for boarding, with a very nice fenced outside play area, which we could tell our gal loved. Amazing! I've had my fair share of trainers since I've gotten my puppy, and finally, I've found a trainer who has been genuinely willing to help with my puppy's reactivity, and it has helped me so much. I did the group classes and a private lesson. My puppy started out as uncontrollably reactive when he saw other dogs, and I was at a complete loss of what to do. Steve and Silke are the best | Perfect for couples that travel a lot Garrett and I travel A LOT, and unfortunately most of the time dogs aren't allowed to go to the places we go to. (i.e. it's a bit hard to watch your dog when you're belaying your climbing partner on a rock.) Usually we ask my parents to dog sit our little lump, Ozzy, but in order for that to happen we'd have to drive 2 hours to the South Bay Area and coordinate a pick-up another weekend. To be honest, we really couldn't see my parents every weekend or pretty often for that, haha. We looked up our options and were originally going to go with doghotels, but looking at the photos, your pet is confined to a cube of a room and you have to pay for the things that SHOULD come with the service, like, extra petting/attention... which, by the way, is only 15 minutes. YEAH, it's timed. There are SO many pluses with Canine Constitutional. Here's what we loved about our experience with Steve and Silke: +Great communication +Affordable +Ozzy slept and cuddled in their bed +Taken on a couple 1 - 2 hour walks daily +Steve oversees the feeding (especially important with our dog because he has pancreatitis) +Given toys and play time with other dogs Ozzy usually is afraid of other tall men, but he LOVES Steve. Came across these two last year and have never looked back. It's always tough to find someone you can trust with your fur baby but these two will not disappoint. We got very tired of using the pet sitting apps and not finding good, reliable people. Super awesome results with Silke and Steve. Always have prompt responses and very accommodating. Our bear dog (Newfie) always comes back happy and relaxed. She's always excited to meet Steve when we drop her off which is a good sign. I've used Canine Constitutional three times now and am 100% satisfied. First things first, I contacted these guys as well as Affinity Pet Services. I still to this day have not heard back from Affinity (you snooze you lose!) and I'm actually pretty fortunate for it, because Canine constitutional has been great. A man named Steve came over and met with us and got acquainted with the dogs and he was extremely nice, trustworthy and apparently great with animals. We have a cat that trusts NO ONE beside us, and yet she came out and said hello to Steve within the first 10 minutes!! This alone was a big sign that these guys are the real deal! The is one downside to Canine constitutional though; when I return home after being out of town, my dogs miss Steve more than they missed me! ;) Kidding aside, our pets are our children so it's serious business when we have to entrust them to someone else, even for a few days. Steve is the Dog Whisperer of Santa Rosa!! No joke. Not only is Steve a great dog sitter/walker but he's also an exceptional trainer. Long story short, our 6 yrs old golden doesn't like other dogs after bitten by one in daycare. Steve was willing to take in our "special need" dog on a very short notice without charging anything extra and he also accommodated us when we wanted to pick him up earlier than scheduled. The miracle happened when we went to pick our dog up in a local park. He was sitting calming next to 6 other dogs!!!!! The last time he's that close to that many dogs was probably 3 yrs ago!!! Looking for a dig trainer ? I can't recommend Canine Constitutional enough. I have a mini bull terrier puppy who is a handful. First trainer I used suggested a choke collar which worked for a little. Then I was suggested a prong collar by another trainer . After one session with Steve my pup walks nicely using a harness . I'm so happy we didn't resort to the prong collar. Steve's approach is gentle but firm . It's hard to explain but an example I can give is when he corrects a dog he says " thank you ". It threw me off at first but then Steve explained that instead of yelling NO , or the dogs name he prefers to say thank you . It a way to keep things positive... not only for the dog but for himself and bystanders. Like I said it's hard to explain but it's an awesome approach. To give you an example of how skilled a trainer Steve is ,he not only got Rey to walk on a leash properly in first class.... He was able to get Rey to walk nicely with other dogs. They don't only offer training but they also do group dog walking and boarding. I have been using there services for over a month before writing this review. Steve and Silke are a real treasure, and we are pleased to recommend them. We were lucky enough to contact them at a time when they had an opening for boarding our dog. It began with an assessment of our dog's temperament and behavior by Steve, who determined that she would be a good fit for their services. It was interesting to watch the communication between them. Steve obviously has a real affinity for canines and they respond well to him. We boarded our dog with them on two different occasions. Both times we were able to get updates on how she was doing by text message; Steve responded very quickly to our inquiries. When it came time to collect our dog, we met them at the park in Santa Rosa where they take daily walks. What a treat to see our little 9-pound Yorkie mix happily keeping up with the big dogs! She was very well behaved for the first day or so afterward, a testament to the training she received from Steve. Silke mostly runs the business end while Steve does the bulk of the dog care. They are very professional, organized, and careful with the animals for which they take responsibility. We would continue using them if we weren't moving out of the area. If I could give more then 5 stars I would! When we planned our vacation I was so worried about what we were going to do with our 4 legged baby while we were away. After our first meeting with Steve I was feeling a lot better leaving our baby! I had a fear of my dog being in a cage and having no one to snuggle, but Steve assured me that wouldn't happen. She would be a part of their family while we were away. I know our dog had an amazing time at what I am calling doggie sleep-away camp! She got to run around their property and play with the other dogs. The proof that she had fun was when we got home and she crawled into my bed and slept. And I mean slept! Literally could not be any happier with Steve and Canine Constitutional. We were relocating from St. Louis and found Steve through Yelp for a last-minute arrangement. We ended up going an extra day on both ends of the scheduled stay and Steve was totally flexible with us. But that's just the technicalities... As far as the experience...it was amazing. We have two dogs. One is Ms. Popular and loves every dog/person she's ever met. She is super sociable and pretty much has a perfect temperament. The other dog....he's a 145lb Italian Mastiff and he's pretty much an a$$ with other dogs. He doesn't like them and they don't like him. We always have to have house-sitters when we travel because we can't take him to a kennel because we don't want him locked away all day, but he doesn't play nice with other dogs so that is inevitably what happens. Unfortunately, as we were moving, we literally didn't have a house for someone to house-sit for us so we had to find a boarding arrangement. Through Yelp and sheer luck, we found Canine Constitutional. Steve at CC took both dogs into his home/shelter with all the other dogs and kept our dogs out of a crate for five days. Our boy still didn't make any new doggy friends, but he was able to roam free and get some valuable socialization. This is not something I've ever seen anyone be able to do with our dog other than myself and I would only have him interact with one other dog at a time. Steve had our dog peacefully co-existing with four or five other dogs in a crate-free environment. Truly mind-blowing! He also responded to texts throughout our trip so we were able to stay somewhat connected to what was going on and get status updates. This is clearly a passion and Steve is extremely dedicated to what he does. We highly recommend Canine Constitutional's training services. We just completed a 6 week private training course with Steve and our 6 yr. old Labrador. After adopting our Lab we discovered he hadn't had much socialization with other dogs, nor understood leash walking. We also discovered he was very STRONG (at 120 lbs) after he pulled me down while on a walk, to get to another dog. Not wanting to simply banish our Lab to the backyard, and not wanting to be fearful of walking him, we worked with Steve on teaching our dog basic commands, proper leash walking and calming his reactivity to other dogs. Steve has a wealth of knowledge about dog behavior which helped us understand our dog from our dog's perspective - why he does what he does, how his past experiences affects his current behavior, and what motivates him. Steve showed us how to work with our Lab to improve his manners, and instill obedience in him based upon trust, consistency, praise, and positive training methods.
