Take a scenic eight-minute ride in one of two enclosed cable cars to the 4,200-foot summit of Cannon Mountain. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of the distant valleys, mountains, Echo Lake, and black bears (no we did not find any, but the guide said so :P ) Also, you'll be able to view parts of New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, New York, and Canada! This Tram is on Cannon Mountain in the White Mountains and I learned a lot about it in the area museum and in the gift shop and book store. The mountains up here are tiny compared to out West, this one at 4,000 feet is more like a hill to people from the Western states. What I learned is that rock climbers came up here in the 1920s and the ski area on this mountain is the oldest on the North American continent. The first tramway was built in 1938 and a new one was built in 1980. Quite of bit of climbing in this area of New Hampshire occurs here and at surrounding mountains. read more

Unfortunately we were in a cloud at the top and couldn't see a thing. I'm sure on a clear day the views are fantastic. The man that rode up with us was full of information and the staff was very friendly. The hike at the top is very lovely with lots of moss covered ground and interesting trees and shrubs. But we had no need to climb up the observation tower as we couldn't see 20 feet in front of us anyway. On a clear day, this tramway would be a must-do! read more

Excellent attraction in the Notch area. Great views from the Summit including Echo Lake. Our tram operator (John) was very knowledgeable & friendly and also a CT transplant as well. A very gentle ride takes you up in about seven minutes. There is also an observation deck that nay be open for additional views once you reach the Summit, weather permitting. There is a snack shop at the Summit and multiple walking trails. Trams run every 15 minutes. You can take any tram ride down when ready to depart. Peak season is mid September when the leaves have rich foliage color. The base station has bike rentals available and a gift shop. I recommend the Discovery Pass which gives you access to the nearby Flume Gorge attraction for one low price. read more

This is a must-visit if you are visiting Franconia park. Make sure you get the discovery pass which gives you access to this tramway and Flume Gorge. The tramway ride is 7 minutes long which provides beautiful views (don't stand in the center because you won't get a good view if it's crowded). Once you reach the top, it's a short 15 minute walk to get to the summit. The views on the walk are breathtaking as is the view from the summit. Really fun way to look out for miles! On a nice day, you can see all the way into Quebec, Canada. Be sure to dress warmly. The temperature was about 20 degrees colder at the top of the mountain than at the bottom. A ticket for one adult is $17, which is a bit pricey for a ride that lasted no more than 10 minutes. However, this is a great alternative for those who want the view without hiking to the top. There is a short walking trail that circles the top of the mountain so you can do a bit of sightseeing. Just make sure to go on a day with low precipitation. We arrived on a cloudy day and the entire mountain was covered in fog. When you get hungry, be sure to stop inside the restaurant at the top of the mountain for a yummy sandwich. I ordered a spinach, brie, and tomato sandwich with balsamic glaze. The family and I visited during a long end-of-the-summer weekend sojourn. We got combo tickets that included the Flume Gorge and Cannon Mountain Tram (Definitely recommend if you're doing both). The views from the tram were surreal. At the top, you definitely need to take the short breath-taking hike to the observation tower. While you are trekking to the tower don't just breath but also smell the air. This is the first place I ever wanted to truly can the air and bring it home with me. read more

A little bit of a trample to get into the tram, but the employees were really good and pleasant. There was a wheelchair on our tram down and they took care of it with no issue. The ride is pretty awesome on a clear day or to see the foliage. Totally bring a hat for the top...especially if you are going to wander over to the tower. There are 2 ways there, a short and a long...be prepared for tired and annoyed hikers and parents who in no way prepared to be on top of a mountain with their children. read more

I enjoyed this attraction, with a narrated tour up and great views. It would have been nice to have a marker at the top indicating what various mountains are, the direction of other states/provinces, etc. The tower was better than your standard fire tower because it solid wood under your feet, not open metalwork. Today it was sunny and not cold despite a 36 degree mountaintop temperature, but we were prepared with jackets and you should be too. There is ample parking. I did not try any if the least common denominator food from the cafeteria. Your experience will vary depending on when you go. Our trio chose to go pre-foliage season and avoid the mob scene. We did not visit the Flume because of the amount if walking involved, and even on the mountaintop one of the trails is not ideal for someone with medical issues. However, there is a shorter trail, and on the longer one there are many benches where you can rest. There is also a deck with one of these viewfinders that costs 50 cents right after you get off the tram if you are in a wheelchair or otherwise cannot navigate a trail at all. Here is a objective description of what this experience is: 1. 6 miles drive in heavy traffic from flume 2. 20-30 min is wait with hundreds of other people waiting to board 3. 80 people crammed into the ride 4. Moves slowly up the mountain about 10 min 5. At the top everyone gets off and there is a cafe with pizza, muffins, and chicken fingers 6. You then wait 30+ min with hundreds of people before boarding again into a crammed space with 80 people The views are as beautiful as the drive up to and seen while hiking the flume. The flume hike is awesome and I highly recommend, however I would not go back to this part of the trip read more

Summer, Winter, Spring, or Fall - riding the tram is always fun! It always for great views, great skiing, hiking and a few cocktails too. The base has a cute shop and also some history on display. It can get super crazy with tourists in peak leaf season, but there is other times to visit to enjoy. read more

Yes, the observation tower on top of the mountain does have a great view, but the tramway packed to the full up to 80 people is not a great way to get up there. Even the worker there yelled to the people onboard to pack in so more people can push in - all the time repeating how the tram can fit in 80 people. Imagine that in a space of enlarged 4x6 can! It took about 5-6 minutes to get to the top, and because of so many people, I could hardly see outside unless shoving others. To make matters worse, the fixed glasses were dirty, too. That is not the worst. Some tourists, hopefully not from LA with hep A outbreak, started coughing, and behold, half of my family caught cold. I am still coughing after 2 weeks. I wouldn't take this ride ever. The terrible ride up and down on 8/16/2017 will be the last for us. read more

The staff was extremely rude to me and my buddy when we went to the mountain. I traveled from Exeter, NH. My other friend came from Portland, ME. Then the third partner came from Andover, NH. we drove a very long time to get to this mountain and take professional photos. We brought props and cameras with us. We paid $54 to get a view and they didn't tell us there was no visibility. The sign said party cloudy instead of no visibility at all. Staff was very rude to us when we asked about refunds due to no visibility. Waste of a trip. read more
