If I ever visit with my mum I always find that the sales assistants are very obliging and always willing to give customers alternative options to a shoe they've picked up that might not fit or look right. Their range of unique imported shoes in my opinion cater to the older clientele that frequents St Heliers, so unfortunately I don't really find much that appeals to me. However as far as old lady shoes go, they are pretty funky, stylish and comfortable and at a very reasonable mid-price point.

One of the few shops that specializes in this regard is Feet First, located in Milford Mall just by Whitcoulls. I was the only customer at the time and therefore got the friendly English shop assistant's full attention. She measured my daughter's feet thoroughly in all their dimensions and suggested a range of about 20 different models. As you would expect, most girls shoes were pink but they did have one cute and extremely comfortable looking pair of red Bobux shoes (NZ brand). As soon as Maya had them on she ran out of the shop - must be good shoes then! Yes, they do come at a price of $70.00 but I guess it's ok to spend a bit more on the first footwear. Apparently they are going to last for about 6 months - we will see! Anyway, highly recommend this shop if you are after some proper advice and good quality shoes. Thumbs up!

It just so happens we were on our way to North Shore's only children's shoe store; we had done our research and this was the place to buy really good quality kids shoes. Easy to find at Milford Mall, when I arrived the shop assistant was busy fitting another child with shoes. I had a chance to look at the products on offer, and admired the Bobux brand and stages of walker's shoes. With the trained shoe fitter's help and a unique Clark's measurement instrument, the lady helped me take my son's foot measurements, and advise me on the shoes which would be best. I quickly decided on a pair of blue Ked's which just looked adorable on him, I received the correct size, and let him have a bit of a walk around in them. I was really happy with how easy the whole procedure went, and the help was highly professional. The price of the shoes at First Feet is more on the expensive side; however you are paying for quality.

With plenty of staff on…read morehand, every single customer is greeted and helped by sales assistants, and though I'm not usually one to enjoy such in your face service, at Sport Science it was necessary. With so many different shoes available for so many different types of sport and exercise, as well as issues regarding tread, rolling ankles and shin splints, without help it's impossible to know exactly which shoe is best suited to you. The assistants at Sport Science are fantastic. They're helpful, knowledgeable, personable and very friendly. Before you even begin looking at the shoes you are filmed running or walking down a short strip. Staff then analyse the footage and determine your walking/running style and thus which shoe is best suited to you. This process makes you feel as though you really are getting good service and the right equipment - something that's really important when you're spending so much money. If you are really into sports or, if you're like my mum and crazy enough to run marathons, Sport Science will sort you with everything you need from socks and shoes to tights, thermals, water belts and jackets. Bonus: Because Sport Science aren't a brand, they don't try to push you to buy any particular label - it's all based on what best caters to you as an individual.

They are also very well staffed, so when you do get service you get it in a really one-on-one way and for at least 20 minutes. And its always a bit of fun running up and down on the little runway they have with a camera, so you can see if you are pronating or not naturally and then if it still occurs in the shoes they've put you in. You can end up spending up to 300 dollars on a pair, however they do have a handy ambassador club which lets you get discount if you are a returning customer.

The shoes are aimed at an age category a tad older than mine so it's not very often that I find a pair of shoes that I'd want to buy. It does happen.. just not that often. I like it because of the accessories. There's some lovely handbags and jewelry. Specifically Karen Walker jewelry is sold here and, even though it can be pricey, it is beautiful and the ultimate gift for a special friend. Clearance prices when I popped in for a browse to mark the end of summer stock which made the somewhat high price tags slightly more affordable at 40 percent and 50 percent off retail. I liked their winter styles as well, most attractive and definitely Muya can hold its own as a high fashion shoe store in the heart of trendy, unforgivably showcase stylish Newmarket. Gorman specialises in dresses, tops and trousers in really cool, funky prints. I think the great thing about it is that the clothing can really be worn by anyone of any age. Nothing in there is ever too short in the hem or low cut on the bust, which is perfect for older customers, but the cuts and patterns ensure that the clothes still look really trendy and hip enough for a younger crowd. My favourite things though are the shoes and boots. I've got a pair of little Chelsea boots from here and they are so comfortable and really well made from real suede. They have lasted for ages and I wear them all the time. The store itself is really spacious and is all wooden floors and walls, making it feel really organic, which complements the clothing perfectly. It feels very light and airy in there, so you can really browse for ages and the staff are always really friendly and give great advice as they clearly know the products inside out.

Every single garment was delightful; Gorman have managed to stock their store with items that are classic yet chic, fashionable and have a certain alternative, funky flare. This combination of styles means that Gorman is a shop that would appeal to a really wide age group. Both my mother and myself love their stock. It's just that great. The quality of the fabrics and the sewing means that even though items from Gorman may set you back a few hundred dollars, it's worth it. The garments and accessories you find in this store are the kind of pieces you can create multiple outfits around - they're staple pieces for your wardrobe, so spending a little more on them isn't too bad... In fact, I still have them in my wardrobe somewhere. Since then I have bought numerous pairs of her shoes and I have always found them to be well made and comfortable without compromising on style. If they are good enough for Bey and Blue, they are good enough for me! Seriously though, Kathryn used to come into the restaurant I worked at and I served her several times and always found her to be incredibly lovely.
