I'm writing this review as a member of an HOA council member. One of our home owners had this company do concrete and retaining wall work. They started out by bringing in a very heavy piece of equipment into our commons area. I walked down and asked them the weight of this piece of equipment was. I was told right away it was 5000lbs. 2.5 tons. They were rolling it over a residential sidewalk. I ask them if they did the weight calculations for this sidewalk and they told me that it would be fine. I asked them again and they said no. When they were breaking up the old sidewalk a couple days later they were rolling into our common area and running over irrigation lines that were 3" below the surface. Our newly installed lighting wires are shallower than that. I walked down again when I saw this happening and told the operator about it. I informed him that I was part of the HOA council and that if our irrigation lines had been broken that the company would be liable for the repairs along with the new lighting system. The employee became very irritated when I brought this up to him and told me it was none of my business. Being a small HOA, we don't have funds to fix things that contracting companies break. I informed him I would contact the company myself and talk to them. This isn't even covering the concrete replacement they did. When you pour concrete onto dirt instead of packed stone well, that gives you an idea of what you may get by hiring this company and the irrigation line going under the sidewalk was not buried in a small trench below the concrete with sand covering it for expansion as it should have been. They poured the concrete over the piping. They also left a good-sized mess in our commons area over the decorative stone where they poured the water from washing the limestone, now its white!! Canopy killed the lawn in my front yard. It was poisoned during a regular treatment. For months they told us it was due to the over application of a safe liquid material. But it turns out they knew differently. Ultimately, following my complaint to the BBB, Mike H admitted the grass was killed by oil leaked from a machine used to treat our yard. Oil is NOT safe and we should have been told the truth. We wonder why the truth was kept from us. Also, will the oil have a long lasting affect on the health of our soil's microorganisms and the ability of the soil to sustain a newly seeded lawn. read more

I had these guys do my lawn care biweekly for about 2 years while I lived in Clayton. My lawn went from weeds to actual grass by the time we sold our house. Unfortunately I have to echo most of the other reviewers here. I recently hired them and today was the first visit. As stated in another review, they did as little as possible. No edging. No string trimming. There were areas of the lawn that still had high stalks. And their lawn mower left a huge black mark on my new driveway where they turned it around. I immediately e-mailed Lauren, their customer service rep (who has always been nothing but nice and prodessionI would like to add) and asked her to cancel all future services. I also asked that they come correct the damage they did to my driveway. We just moved into a new home whose yard was forsaken and dilapidated. After having several trees removed the yard was in very bad shape. Ben, Kevin and the entire Canopy team prepared, graded, and then sodded and seeded my entire yard. They were absolutely professional in terms of quality and customer service the entire time and I could not be more happy. Standing outside last night with a freshly sodded yard was amazing as the neighbors talked about never having seen the yard at my house look even remotely close to as good as it looks now. Canopy does a great job maintaining the property. Prior to moving to Charlotte from Wisconsin, I didn't have much appreciation for winter yard maintenance. My yard was always covered in snow so thinking about a recurring monthly charge for lawn maintenance was a stretch for me. I have developed a strong appreciation for the well-kept look of the property at all times (even without mowing). The leaves are all picked up and the straw landscaping always look neat and orderly. As an added bonus, I get pictures of the property so I can see the final result. I work long hours which has me leaving before the sun comes up and back home after the sun has gone down. The pulling of weeds in the beds, and spraying of weeds are pretty much nonexistent. We have so many weeds in our yard now no one would believe that we actually pay a monthly fee to have someone take care of our lawn. Our lawn looked much better when Canopy was just mowing the grass. read more

This company put on an appealing face but their inability to communicate is horrible. After a lousy seeding job the normal tech committed to getting someone to fix the issue. I was told that all necessary prep would occur in response to my email indicating that you would be wasting your time if the ground was not aerated once more before seeding.  Today Kyle ,my regular tech, reseeded a great deal and that is appreciated but there was no prep done to ensure the seed gets into the soil correctly and several bare spots were still missed that he and I discussed the last time he was here. I am constantly having to tell them how to do their job correctly.  I have asked repeatedly for someone to reach out and tell me what we need to do to the backyard to make it look as good as the front but have never received any kind of response. (Please note the front looked good before they were hired). As a result of their poor communication and lack of results I told them to close my account immediately and that I will find someone else who will help me meet my goals in this regard. read more

Terrible. If I could give one star, I would. My wife and I were faced with a predicament subject from a Family Emergency, and we were left with a house an hour away to care for and maintain. My wife called Canopy, spoke to a guy, and he was really helpful, she said. She gave him the address, he worked with her on price, and he said he could do it; no problem! We agreed on a date... Well, that day came and past, and she called in to find out if they ever made it out there, and they said with all the rain they have not been able to, because they are working on catching up from the past week. Fine, I get it. Then, today, someone calls and says "the address is out of our service area, and we will not be able to perform the job." That is where I am lost. My wife gave the address, the guy said no problem, she called in, and they promised to get it done, and suddenly you can't anymore?! I suggest hiring more qualified people to field the calls and do not make promises you can't keep. read more

He listens carefully to our concerns and helps us understand the steps he is taking to bring out the best in our lawn. He shares his knowledge about our plants when we need advise. I've been a happy customer for over 5 years. We live in Myers Park and there have been coyote problems along the Greenway recently. Unfortunately, one of our neighbors just lost their dog to a coyote attack. Canopy has left our back gate open multiple times and I've asked them politely each time to shut the gate. Well, they did it AGAIN today and I've had enough of the "we'll try harder" canned response. To get my point across after several polite requests, I said that if anything happened as a result of leaving my gate open, I would be taking legal action. The OWNER of Canopy / Edison responded by saying "WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR IT". Things only escalated from there and he ended up canceling our service. If you have a back gate and care about your pets and children, I suggest you use a different company that prioritizes safety and actually takes responsibility for their actions. read more

Until five years ago, I always maintained my own yard because either I couldn't find someone to meet my standards or just didn't trust anyone else with its care. I tried a few different services since moving to NC five years ago and finally discovered Canopy. Simply stated, they check all of my boxes - affordable, high quality work, responsive, attention to detail, takes pride in their work, dependable, stable, and highly communicative. Love the technology they use to communicate and provide updates. Working from home now due to the virus, I am able to see my crew in action and I love the way they work. They don't leave until every left is cleared, every blade of loose grass is dispersed, and every weed is sprayed. There's not enough stars for me to give the company and the people they employ. Have used Canopy for power washing, leaf removal and gutter cleaning. I have been really impressed with the work they have done from start to finish. Easy to schedule, and good work. The staff was friendly, and when I was home during one of the jobs, checked with me to make sure I was happy with the work and if I had any feedback. Canopy says all the right things but the execution just is not there. I started with them in February and have a lot invested at this point. They have basically killed all vegetation in my backyard and now I am having issues with soil erosion. Seems like anytime someone calls they are willing to help but not much happens. They also suggest I can move on if not satisfied which is easy for them to say since I am the one with so much invested and they have done very little for the money aside from killing the grass I had. read more

Canopy started off delivering excellent cost to value. They had a great program where they would notify customers prior to coming to their property and then sending pictures of the completed work. After growing season with them, I can say that my yard looks worse now then before I started their program. They have also increased their rates by over 33% year over year without delivering any additional value. They said they are targeting larger properties and their price increase is related to that. Folks that live in sub-divisions feel the weight of this change. Their advanced messaging system, although cool, did not always work. Often times I received alerts the work was done without ever receiving an alert they were on their way. Over the past growing season, I had to be mindful of the charges incurred as I would sometimes be charged when no services were rendered. Be mindful of this if you choose to work with them. They did make every effort to try to address my concerns. In the end, the price hike and lack of results have prompted my move to look elsewhere. read more

Canopy has been a great company with amazing staff. Over the past six months our care team, lead by Justin, have been working hard to turn a disaster of lawn into a place of calm and beauty.
