Switched from the other Mexican Restaurant in town. Wouldn't be surprised if same owner both have been excellent experiences. I ALWAYS order the Chorizo-Queso Fundido just because lol. Main Course ( though I may have to cut back in the Cantoritos Fajitas. Way too much food. Even though I suspect some of the food is (brought in as Ramsey would say) It is still prepared almost perfectly. Can't expect fresh prep at these prices. Love this place!!! Everything so fresh. Service excellent. Great atmosphere too. We got the queso to start and it was excellent. Of course this meant I had too many chips. And the portion sizes are HUGE! I got the shrimp tacos and they came three to an order. I could only eat two. Double flour tortilla and stuffed with shrimp! Great Mexican spot for quite authentic Mexican food! The inside is spacious and has a good mix of booth and table type seating. When sat we got free chips and salsa brought super quick and menus. The service was a bit slow however and there was some communication gaps. We requested few items that were never brought, but not a huge deal. Tried Cantaritos recently and as a couple from Oklahoma (we know a thing or two about Mexican cuisine) it was really good. A little bit of a Midwestern twist but we'll go back when we visit Pella next year. Complimentary salsa was a little mild to start but grew on us. Tortillas good. We recently moved here from an area with *many* ok to excellent Mexican restaurants. Gotta say, we've already eaten here maybe four times and love it. The fresh ingredients would impress even Nacho Libre and the setting/decorations/music are muy bueno too. If you want a variety of delicious items for two, order the Molcajete lava stone bowl. Really good chili rellenos are worth the visit. The chips are ok, and the salsa is above average. Margaritas are good, and usually the roasted chicken soup is really good. It is a meal in itself, with yummy melted cheese and a very tasty broth. Staff is friendly, service is fast, and food is good, if not great. The pineapple pork fajitas are surprisingly good, too. The building feels a little old and the tables are sometimes a little sticky (from a deteriorating finish on the wood, not from food or drink) in the bar side of the restaurant, but if you can think of this as it's own special ambiance you will have an enjoyable meal here. read more

This seems very run of the mill mexican. We had the chicken arroz, guac, tamale and ceviche today. Salsa had a taco seasoning flavor to it that was ok. The tamale texture and sauce was fantastic but the beef was chewy in places and I didn't love that flavor. Guac looked a little dark like it was sitting out. Chicken arroz was typical fair. Ceviche had way too much vinegar which isn't normal for ceviche. read more

We were in Pella for a Dr Appointment on Tuesday, April 25. We were excited to come to cantaritos after hearing good things about it. We got there at 2:25 in the afternoon. When we arrived, there was no one at front to meet us. Eventually my husband went to the front area to check and nobody was there. We debated leaving but decided to wait. While waiting I grabbed a takeout menu to see what to order. It had a lunch menu but didn't say when they stopped serving lunch. When a server finally saw us, we were seated. He ran off to get chips. When he returned I pointed out what I wanted in the lunch menu. He said no, it was past time for lunch. We asked when it stopped and he said 2:30. I checked the time and it was 2:33. He still said no. We said we'd been waiting to be seated for 5 minutes but he just kept saying no. I finally said ok, I just wanted to order the mini chimichangas from the dinner menu, he said no, we only have those for lunch. That was the last straw! It might have been better if this gentleman had been nicer about it but he acted so put out that he even had to wait on us that we just got up and left. That was the rudest we've ever been treated and you should be ashamed with that level of customer service! read more

First time at Cantaritos and though we've been past it plenty of times, never stopped for some reason. Well today we did and I can say I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is nice and service was quick. My wife had the Fit Fajitas which she described as delicious. My son had the California burrito and he got through half of it. I had the Tampiqueno Steak which is a combination of Ribeye, Chorizo, and Chicken with homemade corn tortillas and rice and beans. All the dishes were very good. The menu is extensive and the hardest part of the visit is trying to decide what to order. I would definitely go back. You could easily share any of these dishes. All of us brought back half of our meals. If you're in Pella or somewhat close, Cantaritos is worth the drive. read more

The business recently took over the location from another restaurant and has quickly become a favorite. The portions are huge and everything tasted delicious.
