Everything I have tried is good not amazing and typical Mexican fare. I have had the garlic shrimp salad and enjoyed it. Guacamole doesn't have any tomatoes, onions or cilantro. Tamale is spirit open and full of shredded beef and ground beef. Sauce on the tamale is just red sauce. Carnita tacos were good but didn't have a great deal of flavor. I do love the chicken taco. That is the best thing I ordered. Rice and beans are average. Husband likes the chorizo and chicken dishes. Salsa is just average normal salsa. The quality of the food has gone way down since the change in owners. Sometimes the food is warm and sometimes it's not. Smaller portions for the same price. The very last time I ate there, I got super sick in the middle of the night. Vomiting and diarrhea at the same time! I had the La Villa special and the mushrooms looked off and the steak did too. I ate a few bites and threw the rest away. I'd give this place zero stars if I could. Spend your money somewhere else. read more

Ive eaten here three times for birthday events, their food is not good. Now if I go there for an event I do not eat. On this particular day which was Wednesday the 15th of November 2023 saw two cockroaches crawling on the floor. Now if the roaches are out when all the lights are on there is a lot more in this place. When are they going to hire an exterminator and clean up the place!!!!! I enjoy picking up from La Villa. Food is good overall, but some of the service is lacking when you go to pick up. Most of the time the food will be there up front, but they will go to the back to confirm if is it the right order instead of looking at the order itself. read more

Was looking for a place to grab some lunch on the way home and came across this place on Yelp. Since Carlisle doesn't have a lot of choices this looked like the best bet. What a fantastic authentic Mexican Restaurant. The place was pretty quiet when we arrived and never got busy. We had pretty good service, but could have been a little better on checking drinks as I could have used another. They serve alcohol and have Mexican Beer, Dos Equis, which goes great with Chips and Salsa. The Chips and Salsa were excellent. They bring plenty of Salsa with the Chips. The Salsa had excellent flavor and the perfect balance of flavor and heat. The chips were warm, crisp, and perfect. I ordered the ground beef burrito and it arrived super fast. Amazing! The ground beef had excellent flavor and the shell was perfect. The toppings were fresh. I loved everything. I can't wait to return to La Villa for more Mexican. read more

Everyone in my family got Super SICK after eating here last night. I mean throwing up and spending the entire night in the bathroom. This was not the flu this was their FOOD! I should have taken my family and left after the first bite of my taco salad, I could tell immediately that something wasn't right with the chicken which I only took 3 bites of. My 7 year old had the kids taco, and I spent the entire night and morning with him throwing up. La Villa is a good restaurant. They have really delicious mango margaritas. I enjoy most of their appetizers. The cheese quesadilla and bean enchilada with a side of rice is what I typically order. read more

Not bad food. The hours are stupid but nice when you are in the mood for some tex-mix.

I have been here 4 times and have been disappointed about something, why I keep going here, not sure. The salsa is good, but this time my enchiladas were warm not hot and the tortillas were not cooked correctly, why would they be cooked we didn't wait for food but 2 minutes, another time there was a bone in my fajita luckily did not break a tooth, the owner said oh it comes from our food vendor we do not prepare it. Did not offer any other solutions. It would be nice to have at least one Mexican restaurant in Des Moines that was authentic food. Trying to help out the locals but they should step it up as well!! read more

The hubby and I were craving Mexican the other day and didn't want to drive into Des Moines, so we pulled up the 'ol trusty yelp app and found this place in Carlisle! Omg! Thank you, yelp, once again! This definitely satisfied my Mexican craving and then some! The restaurant was very clean and inviting, the staff was friendly, and the prices were so cheap!! They brought out chips and salsa and the salsa was up there with the best I've ever had! The perfect consistency and heat level! I ordered the lunch special #4, I believe. It was 2 ground beef tacos with rice and beans. Soooooooooooo good! The beef had a ton of flavor and I really enjoyed the little peas through-out the rice. I finished every bite, down to the last few chip crumbs at the bottom of the basket! I can't say enough good things about LaVilla and can not wait to come here again! (hint hint, hubby) read more

They have roaches. Very unclean cooking area and unclean dishes always. Food doesn't taste consistent. Be sure to look for bugs in ur food.

Very good and strong alcoholic beverages. My boyfriend and I both ordered margaritas, mine frozen and his on the rocks. Both were flavorful and had a good amount of alcohol in them.
