Our lunch at Cantinho da Cidade was an experience simultaneously delicious, unique, and a bit strange - aka, very Brussels-esque.
The restaurant serves different fixed-price meals each day of the week, so your choices are more-or-less constrained to when you come. For us, it was just lamb or fried fish, accompanied with salad, calamari, wine, and other nibbles. The food was all delicious and definitely hit the spot.
The environment, on the other hand, was a bit perplexing. First of all, this part of town is a bit run down and very strange, with random little stalls, peddlers, and loiterers along the streets. In the restaurant itself, there was a man walking from table to table selling assorted wares, and there were more loiterers in the bathroom. We never felt unsafe per se, but it was a bit weird and slightly discomforting.
Overall, though, the staff were friendly and the food was good. If you're missing costal cuisine here in dreary Brussels, visit Cantinho da Cidade for a tasty and memorable experience! read more
