I've never stayed somewhere that doesn't change the sheets. My other coworker had a few items come up missing from his room and they pretended they didn't know what had happened.

My friend made the mistake of putting the $50 hold on her credit card. When I tried to check out at 6 AM (friend was sleeping), I wasn't able to pay for her room because of this $50 charge on her card. What?? The early morning clerk was a young lady with no knowledge and no power. She offered to call her manager but at 6 AM that seemed like a bad idea. I knocked on my friend's door but she was still sleeping. So for this little simple thing, we were very inconvenienced and it took me too long to get going on the road. I just opened my credit card bill two weeks later to find that $50 security charge on my card still there. I had to call this morning and they told me they didn't know anything about it. They removed it, they said but I don't see it. They advised me to call my bank. Sure, I should spend a long time on the phone because on their policies? No, thanks. I don't know if I would stay here again. I don't want to have to go through all the hassles and phone calls to pay. Seems as though the company could simplify this somehow.

The room was cozy and well-appointed, with a convenient in-room coffee maker (perfect for grabbing a quick cup before heading down for breakfast). While the closet and bathroom are on the smaller side, they were perfectly adequate for a weekend stay. The shower had great water pressure--no weak trickle here--and though the shower head sits at about 6ft, as a 6'2" guest I found it just a touch short, but not enough to be an issue. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Amenities are a real highlight. The pool is fantastic: a clever half-indoor, half-outdoor design that, in March, makes the indoor section especially welcoming. Breakfast was excellent, offering biscuits and gravy, made-to-order eggs, a pancake machine, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, and coffee in both bold and mild roasts. The location is also ideal--just steps from the river and marina, perfect for a scenic walk. One fun detail: don't miss ringing the big bell at the front desk--I couldn't resist! A few potential downsides you may want to consider. 1) It is not near much of anything (other than a seafood restaurant next door, and a really cool bar & grille a short walk away on the river). It's not among the concentration of hotels/restaurants/shops in downtown EP. But, it's only a 10 minute drive away, and it's still easily accessible from I-74/US 150/24/IL 29/116. Plus, the location is probably what allows it to charge a lower price. I was able to get a room here for $116 that would have cost me $230 in the shopping/entertainment district! 2) Because of the affordability, great pool, and free breakfast, it is popular with families. So, expect a significant number of children running around and making noise. 3) The rooms are dark. The hotel uses a northwoods theme, with lots of dark wood and dark finishes, and there's not a lot of light in the rooms. I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone. It's clean, with plenty of amenities, and only a short drive from dining, shopping, ICC, I-74, and anywhere in Peoria just across the river.

The breakfast option here sets it apart from other options with a spread of hot items as well as pastries and cereals. They also have both full size and mini waffle irons and a complete topping bar. Anytime we stay in Macomb, this is our preferred hotel location.

When I stopped at the desk to advise that someone was smoking she advised that smoking is allowed here and that she believes they may be the last Hampton branded property that allows it- she mentioned complaints on the other floors as well because I had initially suggested we might prefer to move to a non-smoking floor. There apparently isn't one. It's too bad because the location of the property is good, too. She said the policy is "unclear" on pot- so if you're a smoker (herbal or otherwise) this may be a great option for you. If you're sensitive to smoke, I advise booking elsewhere. I happened to get a couple of rooms now, in 2021, while visiting WIU for graduation, and was impressed at the change. I had actually driven up to the hotel, willing to accept it as I remembered it from 4 years ago; it turned out be much, much nicer. No more smoky smell - in fact the entire hotel smells clean and fresh. The carpets have been replaced,and new paint throughout. New furniture, furnishings, appliances and ACs in the rooms. The entire staff is hard-working, friendly and approachable. The manager/host is clearly engaged in the performance of the hotel, and it's easy to see, since he is always present in person, working alongside the staff. (side note - this hotel turned out to be even nicer than the Quality Inn and Suites in Kansas City, MO. That place was the exact opposite, but that's the subject of another review).
