Pastor Dan's sermons and teachings almost always seem to be the Word I need to hear and he preaches with some funny, often personable, stories too! He's undoubtedly the main reason I come to LBF when I visit as opposed to my parents' or my brother's church. LBF is also a 15 min walk from my parents' home so that helps too. The church is pretty big with multiple services and while majority of the congregation is white, I think that's a fair representation of the demographics in Upland and the surrounding neighborhoods. Despite all that, I do believe the congregation is quite diverse, or at least as diverse as it could be. See you in another 6 months!

Today, Easter was my second time at this church. There is a young pastor named Joel. This man is anointed. That is clear. I was raised in different cults and churches, I've seen all the good and bad. This place is good and that pastor is a serious man of God. When he talks about sinners, he always includes himself, not coming out as some special holy person. I felt God through him today and even though I'm not one to run to the alter, even if Gods tells me "Run!" But I thought it was really cool that the folks that did run to the alter were ushered into a secluded prayer space to have their breakdown and breakthrough. Most church's will leave you out there for everyone to see, sometimes creating a sense of shame to those who are just then coming to Jesus. One more thing....they don't pass around tithe dishes. I've never seen this before, ever. I still have guilt from having to pass the bucket. There's one in the back if you want to give to the church, but there is no throwing of the dish in front of your face. To me, that is welcoming and honestly I can't wait to go back. If you're afraid of church like I am, this is the perfect place to start your baby steps to Christ, or back to him.

Pastor Sam has a way of teaching that is both forward-thinking and practical. The people are active - serving locally, serving internationally, serving one another. The leader said that her prayer was hurtful and implied praying over and for people was not done at Hillside. Wow! I have tried this church and several of their women's bible studies and gratefully God led me to the church I belong. It is inclusive and welcomes prayer and encourages we pray for our community. I pray for Hillside and pray they as a church community strive toward inclusion, not division.

Never have I ever experienced such kindness, such love, and such welcoming from a church. To be honest, I was raised Catholic and never felt the connection with any of the churches that I attended. I then started to explore other churches. It took me years to come upon this gem, and I am so grateful. You just need to try this church a few times to see what I mean. First, they are very welcoming and very honest in a way that I have never heard nor been a part of. No one is there trying to "sell, coerce, you", They don't need to, they are just grateful to be part of your world for an hour. The same man then turned to us and said, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? Beyond extremely rude he was off putting and would never go to that Church again, being treated in that manner is why people turn away from the Church. Do better
