How can I even begin to amply describe The Sandbox Inn?…read more Do I start with Lucinda herself? She is quite possibly one of the most interesting human beings I have ever met. Think about it, she lives exactly where she wants to, does exactly what she wants to - teaches, shares, gives and provides the shell of unique for immersion into an unforgettable experience full of whatever you choose. I do believe this is the first time I have felt totally and completely at home, away from home. Lucinda could not be more laid back yet she is an author and a sandcastle master by day and night. She is a musician (yes Lucinda - we heard you guys' rendition of "Happy Christmas (War is Over)" ... still lingering in that beauty) by day and night. She is an exponentially versatile artist by day and night. She loves animals - hers and yours. She is unyielding-ly kind, accommodating and helpful. While she is unobtrusive she manages to hook you up with surprise things like a funky Christmas tree and a Christmas parade right down the street. She could not be more welcoming of you into your home (away from home) above her home. You can see both sides of the ocean around you from this guest house. You can walk to the ocean in about 2.5 minutes, literally. You can sit on your front deck and take in all that ocean. You can sit on your back deck and take in the back yard, gorgeous trees, the seagulls, an owl, and if you're lucky - this really funny bird that sounds like a monkeycat who will make you laugh one way or another. You can walk one house over to Blackbeard's and get yourself some fried seafood and drinky. You can walk one parking lot over from there and get some gelato. You can walk across that street and get yourself some shorts because the weather is even nicer than you could have imagined in December. Though superbly clean there is nothing sterile or fru fru about Sanbox Inn - it's all character. Character complete with: several comfy bars inside, mood lighting to include candles, a pool table, a piano, a plethora of games and books, an abundance of natural light and openness, a loft bedroom and just all around good juju karma that is pretty much guaranteed to make your delicious morning coffee an all day and all night savory event.

We are only one night into what was supposed to be a relaxing resort stay, and it has already been…read moreone of the most frustrating hotel experiences we've ever had. From the moment we checked into our room, there were multiple leaks coming from the ceiling while we checked in and the ceiling of the elevators, creating an unacceptable and uncomfortable environment. To make matters worse, both the shower and sink water smelled strongly of sewage, making basic hygiene unpleasant and concerning. No one was able to shower, brush their teeth or even drink water. We were patient and understanding, giving the hotel ample opportunity to address the issues. They sent a random maintenance man to come "clean the drains" and acted dismissive and bothered by our request. By 10:00 AM, after the problems persisted, we requested a room change. Instead of taking immediate action, we were repeatedly told someone would call us back with an update. Those calls never came. We were forced to continuously follow up ourselves just to get information. By 4pm, they FINALLY told us that our room would be ready within 15 minutes. The replacement room is also a disappointment. We paid extra for a larger room with a specific view and bathtubs, yet the room we were moved to is noticeably smaller and does not match what we originally purchased. We essentially paid a premium for accommodations we no longer have. The customer service throughout this experience has been shockingly poor. After finally arranging a room transfer, the front desk informed us we had one hour to vacate our original room. Then, with ten minutes still remaining before that deadline, we were threatened that the transfer would be canceled because we were "not moving quickly enough." The complete lack of empathy, professionalism, and basic courtesy was astounding. So we were allowed to wait all day for them to rectify the situation but we only had less than an hour at ANY given time to get out when it best suited them? Not to mention, the workers walked into our room without knocking and walked in on us changing and gathering our belongings which is a huge violation. What makes this even more disappointing is that our group has provided this property with multiple room bookings and approximately 10 guests during our stays. Despite being loyal customers and remaining respectful throughout this ordeal, we were treated as though our concerns were an inconvenience. Between the leaking ceilings, sewage-smelling water, unexplained extra charges at the pool bar, failure to communicate, downgrade in accommodations, and hostile customer service, this resort has demonstrated a complete disregard for guest satisfaction. We will not be returning, and based on this experience, I cannot recommend this property to anyone. There are far too many resorts that value their guests to spend your money at one that clearly does not. What's ironic is that this place has so much potential of being amazing. Most of the staff is great, but solely MANAGEMENT needs a refresher on what the hospitality business entails. Especially Imelda.
