In theory, the ride offers unique views of the park. The reality is Bryce Canyon trails are steep and narrow resulting in one painfully long panic attack for me while my eyes were glued down on the trail, not the scenery. Canyon Trail Rides @ Bryce Canyon Carter was our trail guide, very experienced and funny. He was always is full command of our group. We had 5 in our group, was given a quick tutorial to steer our horse/mule. As we dissented down Sunrise Point down to the bottom, the switchbacks were pretty scarry as the horses were on the very edge but these horses were on automatic as this was not their first rodeo. Were told to pull the reigns to guide, whip with the reigns or kick the sides of the horse to get them going. Also had a whip to hit their butt to giddy up. Don't know if any of it really helped as I stated before, these horses are so experienced My Horse was Rachel and we were at the back of 7 horses, she was going to go at her own pace. We had such a great time as one of the horses, Kate passed gas and when i mean pass gas we laughed until we cried. Kate must not have had breakfast before our 10 am start because every chance she saw a plant, she would stop to eat. My wife rode Sanka and one time she stopped during the ride on the trail, so she got the whip in the butt only to begin to poop, we laughed because how would you feel if someone is whipping you and you had to go poop. We did the 10 am 2 hour ride, started off around 45 degrees and by tine we finished was around 70 degrees. We traveled a total of 4 miles and every step from the horse showed up on my pedometer! Fun and memorable times had by all 5 of us, highly recommend for $75 read more

We did the trail ride at Bryce canyon which was beautiful and a fun experience, however it kind of put a damper on our trip when we first got there. When we were checking in, my boyfriend and I overheard the cowboys talking about how my boyfriend looked bigger and guessed his weight at 280... which is FAR from the 225 he actually weighs. The weight limit is 220 for the horses, but we figured those 5 lbs wouldn't really matter but it really hurt my already body sensitive boyfriend when he over heard them talking about his weight. If you're gonna do that, at least try to hide it... and also get a little more accurate at guessing weights instead of body shaming someone who is actually following the rules. Our guide was awesome and the whole experience was fun other than having to prevent our mules from trying to eat every 5 steps lol. I'd definitely recommend doing it to get the experience and see a canyon in a new fun way. read more

I booked this activity although I haven't ridden a horse since YMCA sponsored Camp Erdman 50 years ago in Mokuleia. Thought this would be a great way to spend time with family and share a unique experience for the first time at Bryce. As novices we were all a little nervous, but the friendly and welcoming guide manager joked with everyone and personally paired up horses and mules with each participant. In turn we were led by humorous cowboy guide Wquincy who shared his experience, knowledge, history and names of the various natural attractions. He kept the horses and pace on track and insured everyone was safe and having a good time. At the halfway point, we stretched our legs and got some water, then made our way back around to the corral. We probably saw more than what you can see from the valley in 2-3 days on foot. Certainly, we enjoyed the ride while seeing others beat paths up the hills in 90F sun. Since we drove into the park before 8:00AM, we had a free pass to drive to scenic sites before leaving, bypassing shuttles. Reserve early, tip your guide and follow instructions. read more

Yesterday my friend and I (both 78 years old , but spry) went on the 3 hour ride through Bryce Canyon. My purpose for this review is to alert anyone afraid of heights to avoid this adventure! There are many cliff edges and extremely sharp turns at very high points. Also, the leader (and there was only one with no one in the rear of a group of 10 riders!) was very unconcerned with what was happening behind him. My horse kicked a horse in the chest when it came right up behind me and sent it flying off into the pucker brush. Thankfully, we were not on a cliff edge. Most shockingly, the rider who came riding up into my horses's rear end was the LEADER of the group behind us! This never should have happened. The views inside the canyon are spectacular but not worth the risks I observed. My observation of the experience is that the organization is far too lax with courtesy and certainly with the safety of the riders they are responsible for. Just be aware. read more

Canyon Trail Rides is a must if you're at Bryce Canyon National Park. We did the three hour trail and it was pretty taxing on our bodies (even though we're used to quite a bit of hiking). We're both fairly novice horse riders so they took good care of us. They let you stop for a drink and restroom break halfway through. Be advised, you will get dirty and the only thing you can bring is a camera/phone with you. Morgan was our guide. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and funny. He did a tremendous job and checked on all the riders pretty often. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly during the experience. They do an absolutely fantastic job here and take good care of you. Note: this experience is not for the faint of heart. The ride is steep, bumpy, and some of the horses/mules like to get close to the edge. That being said, we both felt very safe the entire time. read more

I came across a posting about horse ride in Bryce Canyon and found the company online. I attempted to book online but the booking window (7 days) had closed. I was glad I called and was able to book the ride during my visit to the park. My family had a great time on the horse/mules during the trail ride. My 7 yr old son was first time on a horse and it turned out fine. Our guide Wyatt was great at keeping the group safe and introduced several interest points along the ride. I even learned something new about mules. I highly recommended the trail ride. We went on the horse trail, where it was not accessible on foot. We rode down the cliff to the canyon and got close to the hoodoos. The view was breathtaking. Great experience!!! I grew up riding so I am usually not that excite about paid trail rides. Not with Canyon Trail Rides. They are above all the rest! Horses are well cared for, well fed, groomed, freshly shoed and well trained. Howie our guide was knowledgeable and let us stop to take pics. It's a beautiful trail. We took the 3 hour ride and it was just amazing!! I rode Peso, he was well trained, neck reined and took leg cues, he turned on a dime around the sharp corners and switchbacks. I felt completely safe riding him. If I could I would of taken him home. My friend (not experienced ) was on Vance the mule and he was so wonderful! I personally just went on this trail with a group of people i didn't know because my mom dosent enjoy heights and let me tell you ... I HAD A BLAST!! idc what any other review has said whether bad or good but you truly won't regret going on this trail ride!! Jay was my guide and she was the sweetest friend ever!! The trail seems scary on some parts bc of cliffs and turning but the horses are so calm and know EXACTLY what they were doing. i had SUNSHINE who was my best friend through the trail and i had full faith in my girl to keep me safe and she did just that and more!!! she listened so well and was the sweetest thing. if you have been reading reviews and contemplating if this would be something for you as an individual or friends and family event DO IT. you will not be disappointed !! I was in Zion earlier this week and it's absolutely heart wrenching how these horses are kept. They have no water near them, they are put out in the sun with not shade even on hot days, tied two horses to a post with little to no room to move, they look sad and miserable. One of the men told my husband to be careful when he went up to pet one of the horses because he can kick and stomp. This horse was a sweetheart and considering their poor keeping our first thought was "how are you treating him to make him kick you?" I can't believe the conditions they are kept in during the day, it should be animal cruelty. read more

Canyon Trail Rides was one of the highlights of this trip, easily the best way to get to know Bryce Canyon if you're on a time crunch and can't hike or walk all of the trails. If you're scared of heights, this might not be for you as the horses and mules tend to get dangerously close the the edge of the cliffs. At times it feels like they're going to walk right off of them. We did the 1.5 hour trail and that was more than enough for us, even though you're not walking any of the trip, riding does take a toll on your body. Our guide was great and very informative, showing us popular view points and cracking old cowboy jokes throughout the ride. I will definitely be taking part of more trail rides during my future trips. Don't forget to bring cash to tip your guide and arrive early as they do start the tours on a timely manner, you do not want to be the reason why they'd run behind. Wear comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting dirty and don't bring a backpack or a purse since they don't allow you to carry them on and they don't provide lockers. read more

This is my 4th time taking a friend on this ride. Today we had Cornell who claimed to have only been working 6weeks but he's great, like a pro, he knew all the scenery and all the landmarks (Jokes too). Doesn't hurt that he's cute. I was a trail guide for years and this guy was delightful. He checked in with everyone well, watched his group, and made accommodations for newer riders. The ride is beautuful, the horses are healthy and treated well. Those are my criteria to ride with a stable and i would definitely recommend this company to new and experienced riders. What a great way to experience Bryce Canyon! Hank was our amazing guide on the half-day ride along the Peek-a-Boo Loop Trail. We'd previously hiked The Queen's Garden/Navajo Loop/Wall St. trails and really enjoyed the contrast between the different types of explores. I rode Geraldine and my wife was on Yellow Jacket. Great horses, which seemed to be well-fed and cared for. They knew the trail as well as you can imagine and never wavered or wandered. Hank made sure everyone stayed together and offered up some clever cowboy humor all along the trail. Something we thought of later, as we're not frequent horse riders, would be to wear bike shorts under our pants on the ride. For several days, our posteriors reminded us of the great time we had on our ride! read more

The horse I was assigned to leg was bleeding and halfway through the trail ride he was just done. Our leader had to drag my horse the rest of the way. I felt bad for the horse. My son overheard the guide "cowboys" making disparaging remarks about our hometown. I ended up feeling like I paid way too much for my morning to be waisted, the guides to insult our entire group and this poor horse to get dragged around. Did the half day Bryce Canyon Ride and it was amazing! A great way to see the Canyon and totally worth the price. My wife and I came on a Sunday and there were about 20 people on the ride. However, they split you up into groups so it's not one big line. We got mules I think because we were inexperienced riders and smaller people. You stop half way through for a water break. Don't get nervous that your mule is going to go over the edge. It adds some adreniline getting so close to the edge. The guides were nice. We had Klemic and he pointed out some interesting things. This is the best way to see Bryce Canyon! We did the 3 hour trip, which included the Peak-A-Boo loop. It was 90$ per person for this trip, which seemed reasonably priced. I chose this company because it was endorsed on the National Park Service site and getting to meet up at the Bryce Lodge stables was really convenient. Our guide was Nikki and she was great. She was really nice and knowledgeable about the canyon and the animals. All the mules were calm and familiar with the canyon trails. It was really easy to trust them and feel safe. Now for my individual experience: I was given a very curious mule named Mary Jane, who I am pretty sure was my spirit animal. Mary Jane likes to live life on the edge (literally), zig zags along the trail so she can look at everything she passes, gets easily distracted, and constantly was wanting to wander off from the group (I didn't let her) She also liked to try to eat rocks. She was quite a character. She was also a wonderful guide to the canyon! read more

This was our first time riding horses, it was supposed to be a casual day along with the Dark Ranger tour I also just reviewed, this was in between hiking for 2 days at Zion and 2 days at Bryce but let me tell you, even though the horses do all the work, we were still worn out and it was only a 2 hour ride, lol! Mike was our guide and we had one other couple with us, a cool couple from Maryland, that was on August 12th. My house was Bean and misses had Pepper. Mike was riding Cowboy and all the horses were pretty well behaved even though Pepper did act up once just to show my wife who was boss....lol Mike was a great guide, very knowledgeable, horse riding isn't for everyone so if it is your first time out I'd certainly say that you'd probably want to do the 1 hour or 2 hour ride just to see how you like it. We liked it, we were sore after and for a few days which is to be expected but it's all about your guide and the temperament and training the horses go through. It is a different experience to be on horseback but you can tell the horses were well trained and you can tell right away if the horse is trustworthy, we were lucky to get two great horses so thanks Mike, you were great! read more

My fear of heights and edges was not entirely vanquished but I trusted Anaconda to do his job and he did it well! No other way would I have been able to see the truly remarkable and otherworldly sights available on the half day Bryce Canyon trail ride. The BEST TIP you'll get if you decide to do a trail ride is to GET A LANYARD for your phone or camera so that it's easily accessible for pics along the way and you won't worry about it. My horse was so reliable that I really didn't even have to hang on to the reins but I have no pics from the experience. I'll just have to rely on my memory like we did before the digital age. I cannot tell you how much we enjoyed our trip! I reserved a spot for my special-needs grandson and myself to celebrate his 15th Birthday. I booked the half-day trip after reading other reviews where folks regretted not scheduling a longer ride. I'm so glad I did! The 3 hr trip was perfect! Anything would have been too short and anything longer would've been too long for my grandson. Our guide was Sylvia and I cannot tell you how knowledgeable, relaxed and fun she was. I had written a note explaining that my grandson had been involved with riding lessons a few years ago and it really calmed him but I wanted them to understand his social awkwardness. I believe they chose our guide based on how he would respond to her. He was placed directly behind her so that he had direct interaction throughout the entire ride. It was amazing how he absorbed everything and related to Sylvia the entire trip. I was so very pleased. It was worth every penny! There were six of us in our group. Another couple with two, tweens. My only advice is this: Keep up with the group and try not to lag behind. If you do, you won't be able to hear everything the guide is sharing. Ours had to stop quite a few times to wait for the other four to catch up, even though she gave constant encouragement to "keep up" and that takes away from the actual continuous trail idea, lol. The scenery is beyond beautiful! The trails are in good repair and we never felt unsafe. There is a break about halfway where there's water for the group and a corral for the mules/horses. It was about 100 the day we went and it was hot but we began at nine and were back by 12:30 PM. The guide had us all introduce ourselves and tell about our professions... it was a nice chance to connect with the others and discuss our jobs, lives, etc... Don't hesitate to book with these folks. I can't imagine a better outfit to deal with. Everyone was efficient, kind and the animals are well cared for. That's something I think we all can appreciate~ read more

Wow! I can't believe I'm the first to review this business :) We had so much fun on our half day trip on horseback into Bryce Canyon. I was so reluctant to go (okay, I had to be talked into it a bit), but am very happy I did. This was certainly one of the big highlights of our vacation. What's so cool about Canyon Trail Rides is that they actually take you into Bryce, all the way to the canyon floor. Beautiful!! And, the business has been family owned and operated since day one. Our cowboy guides, Cash and Joe, took good care of our group and made sure everyone was comfortable, always looking out for everyone's safety - even the hikers that we passed along the way. We started out at the Bryce Lodge, and proceeded on a 7-8mile figure eight loop for about 3 1/2 hours. The cowboys informed us of all Bryce's wonders along the way and made the ride entertaining. The half day mule ride at Bryce was awesome and totally worth it. The great thing about this tour is that you see A LOT of the canyon. The views from inside the canyon are great. It's a much different experience to be "in" the canyon. Our guide - Cowboy Dave! - was great. The mules were sweet. I highly recommend the ride. In fact, I rode the mules into the canyon almost 20 years ago as a child. I had such fond memories of that trip that I wanted to do it again. :) read more

My family experienced an extremely disturbing scene of over 30 horses crammed into several tiny arenas, filled with mud and no grass. One of the horses was laying down, and appeared to be unable to get up. This seems to be where the horses are kept when they are not on trail rides. Many of the horses had virtually no shade from the sun. All were caked in mud. Many were trying to graze, but there was no grass whatsoever left on the muddy ground. 30+ horses should not be kept in a small arena. This is unacceptable, and I am also reporting this treatment to the Park Service. read more

This was my first time horseback riding. I really loved it. We did the 9:15 one hour ride. To get there you have to take the Zion Shuttle to the lodge and then you walk across the street to the stables. The trail guides asked us what our riding experience was and then paired us up with a horse. The guides help you get on the horse and show you how to control your horse. They call the horses out of the stables and you're off. You go through a river which was pretty awesome and the trail is relaxing a beautiful. I didn't have to do much to get my horse to do anything. I just had to kick it a few times when she would slow down. This is something I would totally recommend! read more

He stopped at at points of interest to let us take pictures, even lined us all up at a beautiful spot to take pictures of each of the individual groups. This family owned and operated business, located in Zion National Park across from the Lodge, gave my husband and children a beautiful, safe ride and wonderful memories. The ride began with a trek through a river, where they took pictures of the riders going across the river with the canyon in the background. A wonderful keepsake made available for sale at the end of the trip. Our only disappointment was there was not a little more instruction on how to ride the horses. At another National Park later in the week they went on a horseback ride and there was more instruction which gave the children confidence. Horseback riding was a highlight of our trip! read more
