I wish every hotel we had was this good. Not breaking the bank, but new hardware, friendly staff, gorgeous setting, clean, everything! Apparently they offer e-bikes too. Breakfast was included in a nearby Mexican place (huge portion!). The highlight is their hot tub on a hill in the back, overlooking the Red Rock Inn and the surrounding mountains. Just amazing. The cabin felt so new; I love the soaking jacuzzi tub in the spacious bathroom. Sharon checked us in; she was super friendly and introduced us to the cute white puppy who was sort of the dog in residence. When we had questions about WiFi in our cabin and other small things, we were able to reach her on the phone. We stayed at the Zion Lodge inside the national park for the first few days of our hiking trip; it was a dump compared to Red Rock Inn, which is much more civilized. It is in Springdale, a very pleasant town at the entrance to Zion.

Located less than a mile from the park! Also centrally located in town meaning you can literally walk to restaurants, shops, grocery store, and a great coffee shop in the morning. If you'd like a very hearty breakfast you may purchase a $5 voucher from Oscar's Cafe which is a really great deal. I can only hope that this place will be around until the end of time.

It was not made clear during the reservation process that Room 3 does not have a standard shower. Instead, it has a claw-foot tub with a handheld shower head that must be held while showering, or the tub can be used for bathing. I believe this should be clearly disclosed so guests can make an informed decision before booking. The description of "European style shower" does not make it clear that you cannot take an actual shower in the room. We actually wound up getting passes for the Zion canyon hot springs just so we could shower during our stay. I understand this is a historic inn, but that does not eliminate the expectation of basic accommodations, such as a functioning toilet seat and an adequate supply of toilet paper. When we checked in, the toilet seat was cracked, and there was only a half roll of toilet paper provided. I messaged to ask where I could find more, and I was told someone would bring it that evening. By 9:00 p.m., nothing had arrived, so I followed up and asked whether I should go to a nearby store to purchase toilet paper and a replacement toilet seat, since the one in our room was broken. The owner/manager called me and said, "I didn't realize this was such a crisis for you." I found that response unnecessarily dismissive, rude, and unprofessional. He also told me the toilet seat would not be repaired during our stay, but then explained where I could find additional toilet paper myself. I was disappointed that this information was not provided when I first asked several hours earlier. The following day, the toilet seat was replaced. I guess although he didn't think it was a "crisis", he did realize having a functioning toilet seat was important. The inn has historic charm, but the property appears run down and in need of better maintenance. It is possible to preserve the character of a historic building while still keeping the infrastructure and basic amenities up to standard. This place has a great deal of potential, but in its current condition and with the current level of management, it does not meet the expectations of a 3-, 4-, or 5-star stay. The highlight of our visit was leaving the inn to eat breakfast at Oscar's. The food was delicious and this was the best part of our stay. There is no one consistently on site to assist with issues that arise during a stay, no traditional check-in or check-out process, and no one actively monitoring the property. Unfortunately, the combination of poor communication, dismissive management, and the lack of basic amenities resulted in a disappointing experience. I would not recommend staying here.

Our room was spacious, clean, and well-equipped: nice ensuite bathroom, king bed, 2 fans, 2 nightstands, table and chairs, closet, mini-fridge. The location is superb, with mountain views, nearby eateries, and just a short walk to the Springdale shuttle, which can take you to Zion NP or elsewhere in the area. The backyard gardens were beautiful, and there were hummingbirds in continuous motion when we visited in September. And let's not forget the second B: the breakfasts were healthy, tasty, and beautiful to behold. Paradise indeed! We will be back!

But the best part is the large private balcony with seating and a direct view of The Watchman, one of Zion's most iconic peaks. Sunrises and sunsets from here are epic. Your stay includes, wifi, parking, year-round access to the outdoor pools and hot tubs, fire pits, fitness center, bathrobes and slippers, ac/heat, coffee maker, mini-fridge, and fresh coffee each morning near the lobby. On-site you'll also find a restaurant by the name of Anthera, and a spa, both of which I recommend. With 53 rooms, the property doesn't feel like just another standard hotel. What truly sets it apart though, is what lies just behind it, the lush riverside gardens. Ending your day sitting by the river, listening to the water move past as your thoughts quiet and your whole body softens. In the morning expect to see a lot of deer grazing in the grass areas. It's genuinely spellbinding. If the restaurant on property doesn't interest you there are other walkable options nearby and this property does not allow pets. The owners Lisa and Lizette were very accommodating to our last minute needs. They had one room left, Kolob Elk Room and we took it. With permission we were able to have our small dog as all other places were booked. This meant the world to us! The home was super cute, clean and welcoming! We had the Kolob Elk Room upstairs which had two beds, a table with two chairs, closet space, and private shower and sink. Definitely more than enough room! We felt our car was safe on property as it's far back from main road. Honestly would have stayed a second night if they were not booked! They have a communal kitchen. We were able to place our cooler items in the fridge and they had plenty of coffee and tea for guests which is perfect as I need my coffee in the AM! They have these cute little newspaper updates which add a personal touch. Let's you know what's around town and about the place! Loved it!

It is also not close to the village center, so a car is recommended. The lush manicured garden is an immediate welcome from the hot local climate. The air-conditioned house is quiet and comforting, elegant art and beautiful quality deco make all the difference between a commercial hotel and a quality family-run Inn. We arrived when it was empty, so we got to peak into each of the gorgeous rooms before collapsing into ours, instantly at ease on the Red Fox's king size bed. My y'all spouse is especially difficult with pillows and instantly loved all the cushions and different sizes to choose from. Another luxury - when one is used to the minuscule hotel soaps, shampoos and conditioners - there is a wonderful choice of hand lotion, organic shower gels, and hair products that were truly to die for, especially after a long days drive. The bedroom electric hot water kettle with herbal teas, coffee, filters and tea cup platter were perfect for the morning; it got us going before we made it out to one of the three excellent local coffee houses that were suggested since the communal kitchen was not allowed to be open during the pandemic. Truly sorry we only had one night and could not spend more time in the common areas. I only snapped a few pictures as a reminder to plan a less compact travel schedule when the road brings us this way again, and - making a mental note - to make reservations well ahead of time since this place is surely booked solid if not for our current quarantine restrictions.

We could've stayed at one of the local popular hotels, such as La Quinta or the Holiday Inn, but who wants any of those stuffy, corporate hotel rooms when you can have this type of custom experience? The owners of the Inn live on the same property and they were always readily available when I called to speak with them. It's called the Novel House Inn because every single room is dedicated to a particular famous author. Therefore, every room is themed in that authors' famous manuscript. We had a room upstairs in honor of Robert Louis Stevenson, who wrote, 'Treasure Island,' so the entire room had little sailors and the author's published works. We loved it because it felt so cozy and it was very clean considering that they do not have a full staff waiting on you hand and foot to maintain the property. I wish we could stayed here longer just to soak in all the little details of the property, including a guest lounge with dining tables and coffee freshly brewed every morning, a library with plenty of books, and a chess set. The owner also provides you with vouchers to a free breakfast(s) at a place called Oscar's Café, which is about a 10 minute walk from the Inn. My husband and I both had our meals and drinks for free. That was the best free breakfast I had ever had!!!!!! The shuttle into Zion National Park is the #5 and it's located right across from the Inn. You have to wear masks on the shuttles; however, it's free to ride them. The ONLY downside is that there is no elevator here. People with physical disabilities, or if they're in a wheelchair, or (frail) elderly, would need to book a room on the first floor. Try not to pack much too for the night because you will be lugging your own suitcases up a flight of stairs.

For us, the overall feeling of the Dream Catcher was that our presence was a grudgingly tolerated (they'd taken our money, after all) imposition. Sure, the place is super "cute" and super clean (to within an inch of its life), but don't come looking for human warmth. At these prices, meanwhile, there is absolutely no excuse not to offer wireless service (the Inn has a website, so there's obviously internet connectivity in the building); and the refusal to provide a bag check (we showed up 4 hours before the extremely late 4pm check-in) is unpardonable. Note: we weren't asking to check-in, just to leave bags somewhere so we wouldn't have to take all of our belongings into Zion, where you are required to park in a distant lot and ride the shuttle. No dice; couldn't be done. I imagine we were the first guests in the entire history of the Dream Catcher ever to make such an outrageous request (and she certainly seemed offended by my bringing it up -- in fact, there is essentially no flexibility at the Dream Catcher about *anything*; do it like the Fraulein says do it, or the answer is either no or, "Yes, grudgingly, and we'll be charging you extra for that." Truly, it's obnoxious). Oh and P.S. - they don't take cards; it's cash or nothing. (And sure, every dime is surely being reported to the IRS.) Meanwhile, you'll need to make breakfast reservations (and if the time you'd like isn't available, tough -- no flexibility, remember?); the breakfast itself is certainly well prepared but hardly generous, and the sorbet/fruit granita glop that they so proudly offer to accompany the waffles is foul. There's also a bit of a rush because the next shift is coming in -- no dallying at the D.C. breakfast table, kids. We only saw the room we were in, of course, but it's fairly clear that the pictures (at least of that room) on the website are misleading: it's a smallish room, and the photographer was standing either well out in the hallway or in the closet to give the sense of spaciousness that the photo conveys. Finally, before you book here, think about whether you're really "Dream Catcher" material. Our room was decorated with a painting of the Mormon temple in Salt Lake City (if you're a gay couple, that's a little like being a black couple and finding a portrait of the Imperial Wizard on your bedroom wall). Our breakfast company was a high-up executive for a major health insurance company and his stay-at-home-wife. Her conversation included the irresistibly charming story of how, last time she was in Italy, she spent $1400 on a Fendi purse (show of covering her husband's ears when she mentioned the price) but, giggle giggle, isn't it ironic, she actually didn't find it all that practical and now uses her $20 purse instead. His opening gambit at breakfast: How about that Facebook IPO? That's not the Dream Catcher's fault, but those are the Dream Catcher's people. If you're not one of them, you're just going to find this place annoying, if not downright insulting.
