I love Bumps. I…read morelove it in winter because I can get all my ski equipment rented here. I love in summer because they carry a great range of surf gear and beachwear. Someone told me about Bumps a while ago but it was only last winter that I decided to venture here. Since I'm just a beginner on the slopes, it really didn't make sense for me to buy my own ski's so renting has been the only option. Even though they were really crowded and busy the day I went in, the sales staff were really attentive and helped us choose ski's, ski boots and gear, while helping us save some money by suggesting alternatives. They also gave us really good advice about layering and keeping warm (and cool indoors) which cam in really useful when we actually got to the slopes. All I can say is, with Bumps, I can't wait for next winter!

Nevermind though because, if like me, you're not the most natural outdoors person, you'll need all the comforts you can get, and this place has it all. I came in here to purchase a sleeveless fleecy windbreaker type vest for my dad because he likes wearing this sort of thing. I checked out their website first to make sure they had something suitable, which of course they did, and made my way to the store. Not being familiar with this store, it took a few rounds around the shopfloor to realise that I could not find the item I was after. It was difficult getting the staff to help as they were with other customers and seemed not to notice me standing nearby desperately trying to make eye contact (I was simply looking for some acknowledgment of my existence and therefore that I would be the next customer to be served). When I did finally get some service, they were quick to point me in the right direction, and from there the rest of the process was fast and easy. I was out of there in no time and I know my dad is nice and snug in his new vest. Ace.

Upon entry, a very helpful sales girl asked me what I needed, where I was going and how long for - she sorted me out quick smart! I walked out with some very smart looking thermals (in sensible colours, but you can get the crazy rainbow kinds too!) and some very thick, wool socks to keep my tootsies warm. But Kathmandu isn't just about the clothing, you can also purchase tents, sleeping gear and outdoor furniture as well as all of the tools of the trade to make your next hike/camp/fishing trip its very best! Think wallets, walking poles and even cookware. Seriously, there isn't really anywhere else you should go if you are in the market for anything like this. Kathmandu is great.

I went looking for tent pegs and must have tried several (perhaps more upmarket) stores. They would set me back $2 each on average. At Aussie Disposals I could find them for 60 or 70c a pop. They also have a huge range of gas burners and stoves and have staff that are very approachable and can pretty much find you the best thing for your needs. Just ask. I'd always go here first for any outdoor stuff or equipment.

The stuff they sell is excellent, but bring your extremely healthy cheque book. I've got a backpack I bought here a few years ago. It was expensive, but it's been extremely useful, long lasting and comfortable to lug around. Mind you, I did buy an army surplus ruck at the same time, and that was not only cheaper, but was better for carrying a large amount of stuff, and it has worn equally well. If you're planning to spend some time in the snowfields, a shopping trip here for some appropriate clothing is a good idea. I do like this shop, but it's not one that I go into regularly.

The first time I went into Snowgum, I hadn't really ever been hiking before. I mean, I thought I…read morehad, but really, I hadn't. So I wasn't terribly impressed with the prices and the products. Fast forward a few weeks and I had such sore legs and ankles from wearing shoes that didn't give me enough support, and I started thinking again. If you're going to do a lot of hiking or walking, you'll need a really, really good shoe or boot that supports you in the right places. Although they're quite a bit more expensive, I'd much rather pay a bit more for shoes than a lot more for physio. The service I've found to be pretty reasonable. Not pushy, advice given only when asked, just generally a fairly positive experience.

They have good products are a pretty decent price. I've still got a good pair of Redback boots from this place, and although they're pretty old, they're still very good. Total cost was about $80 for about eight years of decent service, if not more. I've also bought a few good backpacks here, and some of the old army ammo cans are great for storing stuff. The service is good enough. I don't want shop assistants bugging me unless I ask for it, and that's exactly what I get here. I like this place quite a bit.
