So, I called this facility on Wed 5/2/2018 because I am looking to have a tree cut in my back yard and I wanted an estimate. Today is Sat 5/5/2018 and I have yet to hear back from a voicemail I left requesting a call back. If this is the way this company treats their potential new clients by no returning their phone calls, I can't imagine how their service can be any better. People, if someone calls your business and leaves a message asking for a call back, as a business you should return their call even if you are not taking on new clients. Based on this experience alone, I will give you one star only because I cannot rate you as ZERO star. read more

I'm sorry to hear about the previous reviewer's bad experience with Cape Fear Tree Company. I called them up after reading several endorsements of them on NextDoor from people in my neighborhood. The reviews were that Cape Fear's fees are very reasonable compared to other companies, and that they do good work. Re: my own experience: I *did* encounter the surly person on the phone myself, was pretty taken aback by how abrupt and just flat out rude he was, but Danny himself has been wonderful. As my neighbors had advised, fees were *very* reasonable. I had gotten quotes from 7-8 different companies, including other companies that had been recommended as "reasonable" to me, and he beat them all. In terms of service, he came out immediately to look the property over, remembered it from having pulled out trees over a decade ago, said he would come out several weeks later (I had contacted him before Christmas so the work was done in January - I wasn't in a hurry), called to confirm the day before and sent over his guys, as scheduled. This was during the uber cold snap with 20 degree temps - they still showed up even though I said they could push it back by a few days!!! The guys who showed up were quite helpful, courteous and hardworking. They were in and out pretty quickly after cutting down two trees (1 ~35 ft gumball about 12 feet from house, 1 ~50ft long leaf pine that had grown up comingled with an oak) and popping out several smaller palms. Stumps were ground down to just about level with the surrounding yard. Danny told me to call him if there were any issues and he would grind further. Lo and behold, he was gracious when I called him a full 2 months later to grind the stump another 6 inches because I was flattening my yard out and had moved earth from around the stump. At first he said he would come the following week, but then 30 minutes later he called to say he would be out later in the day. I was out on errands, and when I got back, stump was gone. Based on my experience, I am thoroughly satisfied with Danny's customer service and am keeping him at the top of my list to do any further work on my property. we had a very tough job. a 50 foot pine was had fallen over to a 45 degree angle over our custom made storage shed. they cut off 2 and 3 foot pieces at a time and lowered them by ropes!! i mean this was a really tough job. they did it perfectly and charged us much less than the other tree services. they needed a bucket lift to do this. the other services here in wilmington can charge extortionate prices. they gave us a good deal and we're happy. read more

Danny was referred to us by our landscaping company. He came out quickly to give us an estimate. Other bids we received took multiple calls to get them out and Danny's bid came in at a little more then half of what the others wanted. His guys came out as scheduled and did a fantastic job taking down two trees. One was engulfed with dead vines and was a royal pain to get down and cleaned up. The other was a 70 ft dead oak tree. Both were hanging over a new rod iron fence we had put up. Both came down without incident or damage at all. They cleaned everything up to the point you'd never have known they were there. Would hire them again in a second. read more

I called Cape Fear Tree Company more than six weeks ago to have some trees trimmed on my property. Danny came by for the estimate and we agreed on a price. The work was to be done within two weeks of the estimate. After three weeks I started calling to find out when they were coming and was greeted by a rude gentleman who told me that other things had come up and that it would be done the following week. It has now been six weeks and they wont answer my calls anymore. If there customer service is any indication of their quality of service, I would advise anyone looking for tree service to try one of the many other options in Wilmington. I would never use them or recommend them to anyone else. read more

This company is the worst! I called to complain about their employees showing up at our complex at 7am. They were within 15 feet of numerous units bedrooms, using a chainsaw and wood chipper at this early hour! I called to complain, and whoever was on the phone said " I'm sorry, we'll just shut down our business for the rest of the year for you". I told him it was not unreasonable to ask that landscape work not start until after quiet hours were over, which is 10 am in my neighborhood as per the HOA. The guy was very rude and hung up on me. This company is the most disrespectful company I have ever spoken with and has no regard for customers! read more

This guy is a rip-off. Refuses to grind stumps deep enough (leaves a pile of debris over stump so you can't see it until you clean up his mess after he's gone), even though the contract clearly states that stumps would be ground down below existing grade. Will not return phone calls. After the job is done, he wants the check made out to another name, not Cape Fear Tree Service. This is so he can avoid paying workers comp and general liability insurance on the work he is doing. Avoid this guy- he could care less about his customers and is downright rude. I would take him to small claims court, if I wanted to waste more money than I already have. Maybe this review will have an effect on his future business. read more

I have used Cape Fear Tree for years now . I recently moved and needed some tree removal in my backyard. They are very professional, reasonable, quick and very courteous!! I have used them repeatly and have always been very very satisfied with the quality of work and professionalism. I appreciate a company that has quality work for a fair price.
