I have been a KOA member off and on for decades. I have only stayed at one other KOA that was more cramped and tightly spaced. It was the Ft. Lauderdale Fl. one. The inter location roads were in need of patching everywhere. I picked up a nail as I was backing into the site. I deduced this because of the nail entrance angle, it was not even pushed in all the way in with a 1/4 " gap under the nail head. The nail also had even patina with no road abrasions. What made it even worse is NO site have cement pads not even my high rent Dunes Site sites. So i am laying on my back getting the jack under the unit also getting those little spiny burrs and gravel on me. Upside kids stuff and 3 pretty good sized dog runs. Next trip will be back to the place north of this KOA. I have stayed there too.

Nice location on the outer banks Plenty of Rv sites , a very few tent sites, Camping cabins. With no bathroom or kitchen Two deluxe tents with bathroom, deluxe cabins Kitchen and bath, and vacation suites. I stayed in one of the vacation suites. Located on the top Floor of the main building , it was much better than expected. four suites have private balcony overlooking the pool. Suites are roomy and comfortable, nice walk in pool one area is 5 to 5 and a half ft deep as an adult end of the pool Also has a pool side bar, some grounds maintenance could be better but over all very nice , note: some RV sites in tje North East corner do get wet / flooded when it rains. Best camp ground on the outer banks

Great customer service. Friendly people. Great view of the sunset. Short walk over the sand dunes to the beach. They do offer free WiFi for guests but good luck on getting anything to stay connected to it. We are lucky if it stays connected for five minutes. Other than that I love it here. Pool, cafe, laundry, showers, playground for kids, playground for dogs, basketball, volleyball, trash pickup, etc etc

Had a great time at KOA Hatteras. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The amenities were great, nearby the ocean which was just a short walk from the cabin. The only concern I had were the showers at the bath house. They really could use some attention, not the cleanest, a lot out of commission because issue with drainage. Overall we had a wonderful time though, hopefully next time we visit they will have made some improvements with their showers.

Nice and relaxing. All facilities are clean and the grounds are well maintained. Friendly staff are always there if you should need most anything. The pool is large and kept clean as well as the hot tub. Children have many areas to play from the pirate ships to the jumping pad to planned daily activities. Private dog lots are available at a few sective sites with a shelter for your fur babies. Most site have a shelter with picnic tables. Beach access is good and the sunset on the sound side is worth your time. Great to bring children or couples only. They have cabins and cottages fir rent as well as some room in the main building. Very nice.

Absolutely have not invested in gravel for the sites the camp sites are right on top of each other on the dune . Not a bang for your buck .This is the 3rd year and last .There is much better sites up and down the Rd

Can't say enough great things about this location. Ability to walk out of the camper and take the dog for a walk on the beach, super friendly and helpful staff and location location location. We arrived with a damaged awning, after extreme winds on the bridge. They were super helpful sharing a ladder and offering help taking down the broken pieces. The let us use their dumpsters without an added fee. The store had everything we needed and the building is beautiful with an amazing view and rockers to take it all in. The dog park was perfect and the ability to share the beach with them was fabulous. The location was perfect we could drive to see the horses, light houses and drive down to take the ferry. Can't wait to come back!

Example of the pool deck and stairs.

Main building is ok but the rest of the facility is VERY poorly maintained. Bathrooms filthy and poorly maintained- rusty fixtures, grout and tile are awful, AC does not work. Wi-Fi is nonexistent except in the clubhouse. Pool is disgusting with seagulls swimming in the shallow end, bird droppings all over the deck and stairs including hand rails. Is it too much to wash this off daily? Children play areas look like they have not been used in years. This facility needs some major reinvestment. Staff is very nice and the location is great. But the park itself is well past its prime.

We have stayed at a lot of KOA's in different states, usually our go to. So we booked this KOA for the great experiences we have had previously. Our cabin was dirty, the WiFi did not work nor did the blow dryer, a/c or tv channels our bed was broke as well. Because we were only staying 2 nights it wasn't a big deal and the a/c went out the day we were leaving. We definitely had to sanitize the cabin before staying it was clearly not done we actually cleaned it better prior to check out then they had cleaned it. The shower only had 10min of warm water. For $250 a night it was not worth it. Stay in the cheaper cabin and use the camp showers you will save money and not waist it on things that are broke and unclean. I did like the walking distance to the beach and the pool was large enough to social distance. I never once saw anyone come out and sanitize the chairs or tables though. The restaurant near the pool had ridiculous hours so don't plan your meal around them. The camp itself was busy but it's summer so it was expected. Dog park was nice and maintained parking is limited upon check in. Store had some stuff but over priced. I think it would be a nicer experience in the off season and honestly if you wanna save money they had tons of camping spots near by non KOA that looked just as nice.

This review is about a journey my wife and are making up the Atlantic Coast in a RV. I try to be fair and honest with each review I write, however you have to keep in mind that each thing I experience others may not. The Outer Banks of North Carolina are beautiful and deserve a five star, however this review is not about the Outer Banks, it's about the worst RV Resort I've stayed in since we started our journey. When you arrive at the Cape Hatteras KOA you will be impressed with the beautiful buildings, friendly staff that greets you and the massive campground store. This is just a front for a campground that is plaque with problems that quickly bleed over to being your problems. I'm going to list all the issues below, you be the judge as to whether this is a campground you want to take your family to. Keep in mind this is a $120.00 per night site as you read this review. My first issue concerns the KOA employee behind the welcome desk. I had called as I have every other RV park before arrival to inform them of a very important package being shipped to them in my name. This package contains life saving medication for me. The clerk greeted me with a pickup notice at the Post Office. She claimed the postal service was to lazy to bring the package in. However she somehow knew that it contained medication. I thought this to be odd. The next morning I received a phone call from the same clerk that the post office was going to return my medication. So I quickly stopped eating breakfast and drove my truck down to the post office. They had a different version of the story. The mail carrier stated he tried to deliver my package twice however each time the KOA clerk felt of its contents and assumed it was medication and quickly refused to sign for it. Our second issue were the ants. I'm no dummy, I know at sea level ants will be on the ground, however I learned they terminated their contract with the exterminator company after the flood in September of 2018. My first two complaints fell on deaf ears about the ant issue, only until my RV was over run and my wife and I spent one of our $120.00 days cleaning dead ants out of our RV, they finally sprayed. I used an entire gallon of ant killer all over the outside and inside of my RV. My next experience may not sound important to non pet owners and pet owners will only be able to understand why this is a problem. I took my dogs for a walk and started looking for the doggie bag station. They are almost non existent. I finally ran across a KOA worker sitting on a golf cart. I ask where the bags were located and his answer was rather shocking. He said there may be some located at the front of the park or at the back of the park however don't count on it. They never get checked. I finally found one doggie bag location which I had to navigate around tons of golf carts parks in the sand. After retrieving several I had to wash my feet off from all the sand. I don't want to leave out that this area is designated as a dog area ( not located on the beach but inside the park) however the grass was knee deep and it's located on protected turtle dunes‍. Next is how high the grass was. My little dog disappeared in one section only to return to find several ticks on her hair. I was told once again they terminated their landscaping company. Now for the big one. My wife and I were leaving the RV to explore the surrounding areas but we noticed our power was out. I looked outside to find an electrician playing in the main power box. Conduit was spread all over several campsites and power cords were run across the street to other sites. I called the office and notified them of our power loss and the employee stated she knew about it. We took our dogs with us due to the extreme heat in the RV. We arrived back four hours later to find what looked like an electrical nightmare surrounding our campsite and still no power. I called the office and the employee stated this was the first she time she heard that our site didn't have power‍. Once the KOA employee arrived he found my box had been fried along with my $200.00 surge protector. I later learned from another source they were warned not to open the park until it had been completely re-wired due to the huge flood in September. Please don't let me leave out all the wife beaters and drunks hanging outside the bathroom area waking me up around midnight fighting and acting like fools. I'll sum the rest of my review up quickly, they paid for my surge protector and the rest of our stay was calm even though all the RVs were packed in like sardines. I've stayed in many campgrounds, however this is the first one that ever square inch of the property is used to squeeze campers on top of each other. I write about my experience not about anyone else's. Is this a top rated KOA? No way
