    Cabins at Hatteras Sands Campground
    Donna C.

We love this campground. Centrally located in Hatteras Village. They just laid new large cement pads which after any amount of rain is a blessing. So much work being done to improve the camp ground. Love the air conditioned and tiled bath house. The Olympic size pool is nice and clean intact the just brought new lounge chairs. They have cabins and cottages for those who don't camp but want the experience. Love the canals that you can fish from or drop a kayak or paddle board into right from your campsite. We love it here.

    One of the crabs!

I love this place!!! No complaints At all but the pool closes at around 8:00 which is a little early. I stay outside all night until 1 AM catching crabs I definitely recommend!

July 8 - July 15 Waterfront back in full hookup site $58/night up to 10% discount (see website) 75% full (most tent sites empty) Big pool. Small but nice bathhouse and laundry. Hot tub and one of two washers broken. Wifi spotty. The managers, Steve and Christy were very good. Solid 4 out 5 stars. Good campground for money (Hatteras is expensive area). Easy accessibility to everything on island but separate from main road. You can literally step out of camper and fish. We caught Drum, Spot, croaker, and a ton of crab.

They also have a spot where you can pick up and drop off your keys to the cabins if you are coming amd going before or after their open hours. We stayed in one of the one bedroom cabins. It came with two beds with a mat on top but they do tell you to bring your own linens, which we did. The cabins only have ac not heat, which is one of the only few things I think they should upgrade to have a unit that does both as we stayed during Halloween weekend and the digits where in the 40's at night. Just enough to take the chill out of the air inside. But we brought plenty of blankets so we were pretty cozy but definitely didnt want to leave the warmth in the morning lol. I also think the grills need to be updated to something you can close not the tiny open faced ones they have. Even after scrubbing it down, our food tasted funny after cooking on it due to all the grime that had built up from being uncovered in all sorts of weather. Easy walk to the water and have a tavern and deli within walking distance close by as well with good food. Was a great place to sit outside and read a book and just relax, no blaring horns or city noise.

Absolutely the best trip in many years to this campground. If I was going to note everything no one…read morewould read this but there are several areas I want to touch on. First - the people. This staff was the best we have seen in years and I will account for it being the best since I have been an adult coming here. It was good seeing old faces like Aaron and Cowboy (and Cowboy's wife who is among the nicest people you could ever meet) again. Russ as GM (and his "get it done" attitude wife Betsy) and Ashley as AGM has done a great job getting this place back in order with bathhouses being very well attended and probably the cleanest I have ever seen them. There wasn't a day that we didn't see folks out making this place be in as nice and clean as possible. Now let's call this section 1.2 that I'm going to dedicate to the Summershiners (the folks who worked with the kids and specifically ran the activities). This is the most I have ever seen since coming here as an adult. David, Jason, Daniel, and Cori were just the next level of amazing. Their interaction was what makes family memories and this being the place we have our summer family vacation worth it. Forget friendly, they made you feel like family. I tend to make friends with other campers but these guys brought back what made the KOA special for me as a kid only this time it was my son who has the memories to go along with it. Whether it is making glass lamps, the fun/glow train, pie in the face, ice cream/cotton candy socials or really anything activity-wise, these are the type of people you want representing you as a company. I really hope to see them again in future visits but know they will be amazing assets to wherever they end up (and I would like to reiterate if anyone in management is reading this - bring them back!). Facilities - last year had me a bit concerned, I won't lie. This year the dog park was I swear double the size, the pool was clean and ready for use, and again, the bathhouses (what I believe has to be the worst part of working a campground) were clean and well maintained. Laundry rooms were reasonable in cost and machines were working! I shouldn't sound so excited about that but to anyone who goes to campgrounds, you know that is a rarity. Now to the campsite itself. The only thing we are missing in the site we get is the small pavilion to keep the sun off. The grounds were well kept, easy to level to, and everything I needed to hookup with was easily accessible. Hands down my easiest setup of the year. Beach access was accommodating with all clean off areas functioning perfectly fine. Pet wash was very easy to use at the middle bathhouse and thank goodness with how our mutt ran through the sand and water. Bottom line- I whole hearted recommend this place to anyone wanting to get away. Yes we camp/glamp but they have more than that for those wanting to get away. All look well maintained. It's great seeing this place returned to what it once was and not to knock my childhood memories, probably a bit better.

The amenities were way above par. Huge pool with hot tub. Tiki bar. On site restaurant (Shielas). I love this place for the simple things. Super dog friendly, everyone waves and says hi, and fun activities all day long. The furthest campsite from the beach is only about a 4 minute walk. I would suggest this campground to anyone visiting OBX. It's clean, friendly and the best KOA I've ever been to.

I wish more places had covered picnic areas on site to rent. This would be one of those places. The wind was rough and we couldn't keep our canopy up. This promoted grown men urinating and defecating in full view, just feet from our Airstream - which was facing the nailed shut bath house. Knowing it would be obvious who reported them, we remained silent, as we were there for a week. THEN, *supposedly" some senior male Karen (again, supposedly) claimed we put our trained K9 out at 6am (we don't even wake up until 9am-10am) and allowed him to bark for 2 hours (never happened- again, trained K9 who was happily snoring in bed when this blatant lie was formulated). When we realised it was provably a lie, because we have security cameras (4) inside and out. Cameras showed we awoke and didn't open the doors the first time until 9.38am on the day in question (even later the morning before). the ranger's wife was almost revelling in repeatedly telling me that if the SUPPOSED male Karen complained (lied) again, she would *have to* call the sheriff on us??? Oh, but we should keep the camera footage that she didn't want to see, as proof. Sure. Riiight. We spent the remainder of our non-refundable week with the shades drawn and recording and saving every time we stepped out with our innocent dog should a false police report be filed by the ranger's wife. Hellish week that we couldn't enjoy because of lying, old Karens/Kevins and disgusting, exhibitionist men.

I arrived before dark and had no problem finding my designated space that had a marker indicating my name and my dates of check in and out.
