They moved me from Louisville, KY to Madison, WI. I couldn't have been more pleased. They arrived on time, were very professional, and competitively priced. Everything arrived safely to my new home, including a valuable piano which was unharmed! They set the furniture up exactly as I wanted. Staff was friendly and easy to work with. I just used the service ( late July loading And early August delivery). The worst experience. 1. 3 of the 5 Desk drawer slides broken. 2. One mirror was broken 3. Vacuum broken 4. The exterior of some packing boxes was broken. Cannot believe it. 5. Will I find more broken items? The agent was amazing but local movers in Madison aren't that professional. Due to COVID-19, I did not watch them closely. Turned out They did not wrap my executive desk as they did to the sofa. Instead they took out drawers. On the delivery day, drawer track/slide were broken and could not be placed back. I had to pay to have a craftsman to fix it next week, $100 per hour ( update: drawers slides were broken and cannot be repaired. New slides must be replaced.) I was unpacking and just found out one of the two mirrors was broken. Oh my gosh. Unsure if it was broken on the way or on the delivery day when the driver did all the unloading ( his local helper did not show up) From my interaction with the agent, i felt great, thinking this moving would be the best. However, it turned out to be The worst moving experience among the 3-4 moving in the past several years. Plus I have gave a large amount of tip to all the movers. The insurance package I selected: I pay $80； $1000 deductible. Lesson learned: will never buy any insurance. Or buy the most expensive insurance and little tipping of movers. It's getting worse. While unpacking today on 8/16, I found out the vacuum cleaner was broken. read more

Friendly efficient. Carefully packed and moved everything. On time, if they said 8:30 they were ready to move at 8:30. Competitively priced, actual price was less than estimated. Had plenty of help, 4 men, and they didn't stop until it was break time. No dilly dallying! read more

I have to tell you I have moved twice with this company and the staff was amazing both times. You couldn't even tell they had been in my house and they took great care of my items. I had two different crews but both times they we courteous, kind and did an amazing job. I used another local company once and the experience with the other said two men company was not near as lovely..... these guys rock!!! I will use them for any future moves for sure!! read more

Worst. Movers. Ever. Do not use them unless you like that "distressed", broken look. They handled our possessions as if they were garbage. Our agent was great but wildly misinformed. Wheaton broke or damaged nearly every piece of furniture. Our buffet table was delivered upside down because they broke the legs and lost an antique caster. Some boxes had no numbers, some had two. Some never arrived. At least we had insurance, right? Hahahahaha...they are self-insured and don't even send out a professional appraiser. Plus, we paid extra to have RMS crate and insure a few pieces of valuable art. They caused over 2K worth of damage to one piece alone and refuse to pay for the repairs. If I had to choose between Capital City Transfer and just throwing all my possessions in the garbage, I'd choose the latter. Because that's what I ended up with --garbage--and I paid them to do it. Capital City Transfer handled my move from Madison, WI to New York, NY. Overall I am extremely disappointed with the customer service provided by the team. The good: The actual moving team was very quick, getting everything out of my 2 bedroom apartment in about 1.5 hours (I had everything packed and ready before they arrived). The bad: On move out day, the crew was late. After repeated calls to our sales rep (Scott aka "Scooter") they finally showed up about 3 hours late. Then the real problems started. The shipment was packed and sent to get a final weight, with final price based on the weight. After arriving in NY, I called to check on the final price. I spoke with a polite but clueless girl at the desk, who promised Scooter would call me back that afternoon. No such luck. I continue calling multiple times a day. ELEVEN (yes, 11) days later, Scooter finally calls with the price, and no update on the delivery, with the delivery window closing in just two days (delivery was contracted between the 6th and 17th of the month). Finally, I get a call from a driver. He asks if I have obtained parking permits for the delivery. I explain that Manhattan does not have parking permits for moving (something I thought a national moving company would know, or 30 seconds on the NYDOT website could have told him). He then tells me that he won't take my shipment, because he got a parking ticket once in New York, and didn't want to "deal with it." I was shocked he would say such a thing to a customer. After several calls to the customer service line on the 16th and 17th, someone finally called me back to say the shipment would not arrive until the 21st at the earliest. read more

Rolf and his crew have moved me three times already. Once out of a house in Verona into storage, next into a condo and then finally across county to Orange County California. Each time they were professional, on time and on budget. We got quotes to move to California from a few different companies. Rolf was the lowest AND the most honest. Rolf was up front and honest about everything and I trust him with every detail ( unlike grabel that moved us to Wisconsin from Miami) If we ever move again, across town or across country, we will use Capitol City Transfer. read more

Had not heard of this mover until a friend recommended them. Great tip. We also had a quote from Mad City Moving. Capital was higher on the quote, but with a local move you're paying by the hour no matter what they quote and Capital's hourly rate was actually a touch lower than Mad City. They came in a few hundred under the quote and my friend said each of the 3 moves she has done with them came in under the quote too. The guys were excellent - friendly and very hard-working. When they took a well-deserved "5" (after asking me if it was OK) it was actually 5 minutes. You can even grab lots of free boxes from them as you pack. Capital operates like a mover should. read more

Capital City Transfer was great for my recent in-town move. My movers, Daniel & Jeremy, showed up right on time. They were diligent and extremely careful with my things, maneuvering some difficult corners in my new apartment when moving bookshelves. They were thoughtful, quick, professional and hardworking. The people I dealt with in the Capital City Transfer office were also great: I planned the move over email, then called to move it up by a few days. Sue was especially responsive. Nobody ever likes moving, but these guys made it as easy as it could be. read more

I have moved dozens of times and this was by far the worst experience ever. RaLae came to my home and failed to tell me that my load was small therefore it would not be delivered on time and would be difficult to get a driver to take. She told me that Capital City is not an agent as they have their own drivers. They are only agents for Wheaton so they basically do nothing. She explained that she handles any problems that may arise but when the issue of delivery arose, she would not answer or return calls. The pick up driver for Capital City arrived with two teen age kids. The boy had his hands down his pants in my house, then ran outside to pee by my bedroom window at an apartment complex. The girl had to be instructed by me several times to number the boxes that she seemed to overlook. She did not make sure the stickers were on securely and I had 5 boxes arrive without numbers. This is a fly by night mover. Next, the delivery was two weeks outside the window that was on the binding contract. It took 4 weeks to receive my belongings for a 12 hour trip. The excuse was that they had a shortage of drivers but the Wheaton delivery drivers denied that as the reason. My boxes arrived crushed, the furniture was not in blankets on the truck and was damaged upon delivery. Please save yourself aggravation, lies and damaged goods as this company is a joke!!!!!!!!! It always amazes me when you get attitude by the very people that are incompetent. read more

This was the BEST move we have had. LaRae spent time up front going through the house and asking many questions and giving us advice as she did the estimate. The estimate for the move -From Monticello to Wisconsin Rapids-was very reasonable. She also informed us that we could get free used packing boxes from them-which we took full advantage of. LaRae's estimate included the number and sizes of boxes she figured we would need and the total of over 200 boxes ended up being very close--she was exactly right on the number of wardrobe boxes we would need! The first day of the move-packing the Monticello house went very smooth. Four movers arrived and they worked very fast and efficiently. They were very friendly as well. Since the cost of the move was based largely on the man hours involved it was nice to see them continuously packing. After they left LaRae called and asked how it went and told me what time they would deliver the next day. THE NEXT DAY! On no, I had made a mistake when I booked the move, forgetting that since we were closing the deals on both house the next day we wouldn't be there for the delivery. Larae told me she would look at the schedule and call me right back. She did and told me they would be able to change the move-in to a day later. Very accommodating to my mistake The day of the move-in to Wisconsin Rapids went equally well. The same four guys arrived at the scheduled time and again were very efficient and pleasant. They were great when it came to moving boxes around to different places in the house and took great care to put down "runners" on the floors to not track in dirt-as they did at the first house as well. I can't say enough about how nice they were to work with. I don't know if it is customary to tip the guys but I did on both ends of the move. When everything was unloaded they worked up the actual hours and gave me the total. It was a few hours LESS than the estimate so they are giving me money back. Very honest people. We had a very negative experience working with Capital City: We chose Capital City because their quote was the best. The cost ended up being 30% higher than expected. One of our of our furniture pieces was broken and when they tried to put it back together, they glued it on incorrectly so the table tilts. When we addressed our concerns on cost and quality of service we were met with very negative customer service and nothing was done to address our concerns. read more

What a great experience. From the beginning the customer service in assessing our items to borrowing boxes was top-notch. LaRae was fantastic to work with and answered all of our many questions in the months before our move. On moving day, the crew (led by Michael) was friendly and hard-working. They let us know what they were doing as they worked and were very cautious with our breakable furniture and belongings. It was a very humid day yet they toughed it out and we still came below the cost-estimate. Additionally, we priced out three other moving companies and Capital City Transfer came out the lowest and the quality was better than anything we've used before. We got a quote from CCTInc for a move from one 2-bedroom into another. I was asked for an inventory of our things, which I provided in great detail. We got a quote, with an estimate of the amount of time it would take to accomplish the move, and everything was set. We were ready for the movers before they arrived, which happened on time. Alas, when it came time to getting everything out of our old apartment, they just didn't do what they were instructed to do. We ended up being forced to rent a truck and move out the rest of our stuff ourselves, and we also had to haul two large items down to the dumpster, which the movers had been instructed to do for us. In that I had just had back surgery 6 weeks previous, this didn't go down well. It also was a real let-down that the bill was nearly 50% more than the estimate, which was specified as a "guaranteed estimate." Hmmm, I don't know what was guaranteed, since pay more was what we had to do. They were responsible enough with our things, nothing was broken, and they mostly did an OK job of putting things where they were instructed to put them. One thing that was particularly annoying was having a member of the team insist that my book-case was both too wide and too tall to fit in the spot I'd selected for it. I had already determined it would fit by eye, but then followed up with a tape measure to be certain of the width. I didn't need to measure for height, because the ceilings at our new place are easily two feet higher than at our old place. Further, I built the book-case myself, and I've got a good idea of how much room it needs. When I tried negotiating with the owner about being charged so much more than the estimate, he wouldn't budge. I also found it especially annoying that the main guy on the team pestered me about a tip three times. When you are already paying nearly $200 per hour for movers, should you really also have to give them some extra cash so they don't have to report it on their income taxes? read more

We recently used Capital City Transfer twice - once for a total house move (locally) and the other time to pick up an anitque dining set from Rockford. Both times we had the same crew. These guys were great - courteous, quick, hard-working (even in the blazing heat) and careful at the same time. The office and sales staff were also a pleasure to work with, very willing to work with our changes in closing date. I liked being able to get free boxes (once I put down a deposit) and they were willing to take all my used boxes back. A really great experience through and through. Highly recommended! read more
