A bar that doesn't have ANYTHING on draft is kind of weird. Second, I asked if their kitchen was open, and after being told it was, asked for the chicken tender basket. Only after running my card, did they tell me that they were out of fries, and I would either have to get just the tenders or sweet potato fries instead. I don't like sweet potato fries, so I paid $10 for a chicken tender "basket", which included only tenders. In my opinion, it would have been appropriate to either offer me a refund, or at least offer me a shot or more tenders for the trouble. Finally, the bar itself was pretty nasty, with broken seats, TVs that had black spots on them, and a disorganized looking vibe overall. The staff and patrons were pretty nasty as well. In all, this was one of the worst bars I've been to in a long time, I will not be coming back, and I would not recommend that anyone patronize this bar if they're looking for a high-quality experience.

While recently during the 4th of July weekend, some friends and myself were visiting Columbia for a special occasion. While deciding to check out the gay nightlife in Columbia we decided to visit The Capital Club(I had found its webpage online, and it seemed like a nice social bar to have a drink). Upon going through the door, the bartender (who happened to be the same bartender as on the webpage) came over to me and arrogantly informed us that this establishment is a "PRIVATE" club, and that my colleagues nor myself were welcome. I was truly taken back as to the level of rudeness and unfounded arrogance that was exhibited. Now take into consideration its a Saturday Night, Holiday Weekend, and Downtown Columbia, SC. One would think that the patrons would have been abound in this bar, but, as I looked around briefly while being shown out the door, I noticed that all FOUR gentlemen that apparently were members had ZERO attributes I would have expected from such a Private Club. Yea, they describe themselves as "dignified" and as a "gentlemen's club", however over self indulgence by the webpage makers(one assumes to be the owners) brings to light that no matter how "classy", "inviting", or "discreet" you advertise to be, not being open to visitors or potential new guests only shows just how classless, uninviting, and well..questionably SKETCHY this establishment really is. I hope the rest of Columbia doesn't play into this bias and rudeness. read more

I recently had an unfortunate experience at this establishment during karaoke night. I witnessed a group of people being kicked out, not for any disruptive behavior, but seemingly because they weren't applauding a female singer who was repeatedly taking the stage. It was disappointing to see that a group of locals, who appeared to frequent the venue and spend money, were able to influence the manager to eject others. Karaoke is meant to be a fun, inclusive activity where everyone should feel welcome, especially at an LGBT establishment that prides itself on acceptance and community. Overall, this incident left a sour taste, as it felt like favoritism and cliquishness overshadowed the welcoming environment that should be the hallmark of any LGBT space. I hope the management reconsiders how they handle such situations in the future to ensure everyone can enjoy their time without fear of being excluded for not participating in a certain way. read more

moved here from NC, and columbias gay bar scene is not much to explore. any way Went to this place- capital city- PRIVATE CLUB to check it out and see locals!! BUT I really don't understand why is it private, and why i can not have a drink when there is no one- literally NO one at this establishment- and I've been asked by bartender if I'm member of this place.... i don't go out often to pay membership, but i do once in a month.....and never had problems any where else, but this Bar!! the bartender ( i believe he is middle aged, bald guy, maybe has very short hair) gave me so much attitude and acted like he is the Queen!! If you wanna run successful business, learn how to respect your customers, and Stop doing NON SENCE!! Me and my people will never go there again!! I was soo disappointed! read more

African Americans and minorities who are not performers are not welcome at this establishment. There is a 40 year long history of discrimination and complicit racism at Capital. The drag queens here are obviously great, but drag is mere appropriation in a culture of discrimination. The owners keep it going via their "volunteer" bartenders (including but not limited to Clara, Matthew, and especially Josh) who ensure a specific population is served and a specific population is excluded or even banned. There are actual videos floating around showing this . It's truly unfortunate that there are only two options in the city... for now. read more

This business is complacent in their staff members advocating for violence and harm to be committed against people they disagree with politically. They have been notified of the person in question and "do not get involved in personal matters" that take place over social media, with photo evidence. What a shame. Most upstanding places of business care about the kind of employees they hire (using social media to see what kind of person they are outside of their interview) I guess that says all it needs to about this establishment. Pathetic. Not getting a single dollar from me, ever. read more

Tonight I was physically assaulted by a patron who claimed this was "his bar". If anyone wants to be thrown against the hood of a car by then "owner" By all means attend. If not spend your money at PT's. At least they are welcoming. This person had no right to physically assault me. Especially if he claimed to "own" the establishment. read more
