My primary care physician Dr Leonard Waldenberger retired or left and I was not notified until 10 days after the fact. My general Surgeon left. My Cardiologist Left. DO NOT Recommend Dr. Maritza Nickerson, OD, at the CHP Eye Care. As an medical advocate for my child who has a diagnosis of Autism, he has trouble communicating and speaking up for himself so I attend his medical visits to make sure he is communicating his needs. Dr. Nickerson was completely unprofessional and rude and got into my face and told me to "stop with my comments". I responded that he has trouble with communication. Her response was that she has a son and boys can communicate just fine. This is not a comparison of her child who I have never met. Nor does this have anything to do with gender. As a parent I have the right to ask questions and help my son communicate his needs. I also need to mention that she initially refused to check his vision claiming there is a 2 year expiration on his glasses prescription. It was an eye appointment and we were there to determine if his vision had changed. I had to push her into checking his vision which is unbelievable considering she was billing our insurance for the eye vision check. read more

To get a mouthguard with Dr. Brian Woodworth is impossible. He is so busy that appointments are four months out. This is ridiculous. They need to get another doctor on staff. Your teeth could crack and fall out of your mouth before you can actually get a mouthguard. I can't let that 1 star, axe to grind review be the only review here. CHP is consistently rated as one of the best health plans in the country. It was established as a non-profit HMO which means the bean counters don't run the institution. We have always received quality care from all aspects of CHP, whether primary care, specialty care, eye care and more with very reasonable out of pocket costs. We have never had to do battle over a specialist referral or a test that was ordered. I can't imagine having any other coverage if you live in their service area. I have previously reported to Yelp, without success, that this site is more than a physical therapy provider. Primary care and specialty care doctors are here. The Eye Care Center is located here. There is more than physical therapy going on here and all of it is good. read more

Dealing with CHP is like traveling back 20 years. I had Aetna and United Healthcare so I was used to having websites that were accessible and I could handle tasks there. CHP does not have this. They use CHP Connect who has some ridiculous Access Code required that they don't provide. You have to call and sit on hold for a ridiculous amount of time. Then you get into their website and it won't allow you to select a PCP so you have to call on the phone. For other members of the family, you have to look through their website, find a release form, print it, fill it out, get it signed, and email it to them --then wait. 1990's..... You can only use doctors in this very local area. My guess is that many people who have them haven't dealt with other more modern and well-run insurance companies. I have and I am used to having access to information online --and being able to take care of things online. I also appreciate being able to select doctors outside the Tallahassee area only. So far, I am very unhappy with CHP. Everything everyone brings up as a positive was what I had with Aetna and United Healthcare, but I had so much more with them. read more

In 1995, our son was born at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in critical condition. His odds were 50/50. He was flown to Shand's where he received life-saving surgery. We drove down to Gainesville the following day. That evening, I spoke with a Capital Health Plan agent who made sure the cost of his medical treatment should be the least of my concerns. My husband and I have never been more grateful for anything in our whole lives...except, of course, finding out a few days later that our newborn was going to be okay. The total cost for the three weeks of intensive medical care was well over $100,000. And it cost us $5, the co-pay at that time. I will never be able to thank CHP enough for being a shining light during one of the darkest times of our lives. They will always get five stars from this raving fan! BTW, that baby is now 25 years old. He is a talented composer and musician, has his own podcast, and works in the music production industry. It also doesn't hurt that he is one of the kindest human beings you could ever meet. We are blessed! read more

I used to be in this office for the past 3 years plus but had to switch during a job/insurance change. I was going to this office not only because it is convenient (location) but always it's clean, accessible, inviting and parking was never an issue. Going for labs, eye work and health were a breeze. I've had some mixed experiences here. It's urgent care but you should have an appointment. Ok- not the ER which is noted and appreciated. Many pre-yelp years ago my teenage son was brought here by my mom while I was out of town- sent home without any labs being done or meds prescribed. When I got home later that evening after a cross country flight he was in distress but declining a need for the ER. He would not stop vomiting or holding his side. I called after hours and got an ARNP and explained that he had been there earlier in the day, described no improvement in his condition and asked if we should proceed to the ER. Her reply? "I really don't care what you do." Wowza! I drove him to Bixler- he was diagnosed and admitted to the ICU within 90 minutes for a potentially fatal illness. The difference? They ran labs. I don't understand not performing routine labs- what am I paying premiums for? I have since returned for a stab wound to my hand and received adequate and appropriate care but was confronted by staff and threatened to be thrown out when I photographed my wounded hand in the waiting room. It was not handled well. Hand was treated and it was again- in and out on a Sunday afternoon. Came here recently for an allergic reaction and received excellent care and service. In summation: it is cheaper and quicker for minor to moderate conditions. 1 hour verses 14 at the ER? Yes please! $25 dollar co-pay here verses $300 at ER? Yes please! The emergency rooms are for emergencies and not simple lacerations, colds, sore throats, UTI's, et. al. I'll return! read more

Unbelievable... everything. I'm a RN in an ICU and deal with very sick people. So when I come in pregnant with the possible flu I am astonished at the care I received as a patient. First off, the front desk clerk was incredibly rude. She never handed me anything she laid it down and looked at me. Her lack of professionalism was the first star. Once back, a MA came in. She did NOT wash her hands coming in or out! I told her my symptoms and I was around a flu positive relative and want a flu test to rule it out. She still didn't wash her hands or even wear gloves. Second, the PA comes in. She does NOT wash her hands coming in. Sticks her dirty stethoscope up my shirt that I've been coughing into. She never puts gloves on. She leaves and finally washes her hands. Third, the RN comes in and of course- doesn't wash her hands. She asks if I've been swabbed for the flu before and I tell her no. (I've swabbed about a million patients though for the flu/MRSA/etc.) She finally dons gloves and shoves the culture swab so far up nose I pull back as she is still shoving it up. I blurt our, "Im going to have a nose bleed." She removes her gloves- does NOT wash her hands after collecting the specimen and walks out. I have never shoved a culture swab so forcefully up any patients nose!! Her bedside manner (or complete lack thereof) was horrible. I wish I had never switched to CHP if I am to be subjected to this outrageous care. Btw- when a patient is being ruled out for the flu you should not only take standard precautions (washing hands & donning gloves) but any staff should wear a mask- until the flu has been ruled out. Sorry for all the patients who have to see this staff after coming in my room and collecting my germs to spread onwards. Update: I tested positive for the Flu A. So much for infection prevention. read more

Kind and accommodating! I had to make a visit to CHP's Urgent Care Center because my PCP was booked up and I had the worst case of flu. They were so kind and empathetic to me; they even turned the overhead lights off when they could. They ran a bunch of tests in a timely manner and called in a subscription for me. Room for improvement: the office isn't marked "Urgent Care" so I had to go around the block, and my pharmacy says my insurance company is questioning my Rx (which is weird because CHP is my insurance company--and prescribed the Rx). read more

I have been to Urgent Care twice in the past 4 years. Once I had no idean what was going on when I awakened with severe abdominal pain at 5 am. As symptoms got worse, I called and was given an appointment about two hours later. From the time I arrived until the time I left was just over an hour. I had a couple of tests and was soon diagnosed by the doctor as having diverticulitis. I was prescribed antibiotics and within 48 hours was much better. Recently I called and received a prompt appointment. I was in and out in less than an hour. Diagnosed with an abscess which was drained and given a prescription. My experiences have been good! read more

This is a horrible health insurance plan. No service on weekends. Whenever I call, I'm told a different department is handling my issue but they don't know who and I cannot speak with him/her. It sets arbitrary rules and regulations on certain medical services and medications and then have the audacity to claim they are federal regulations. A blatant lie. I pay more for less service and local only service at that. If you never intend to leave Tallahassee this is the plan for you. Fortunately, I don't intend to waste any more of my life in this horrible place and will be done with this plan sooner than later. read more

My husband had a laceration this past summer (2018) and a tick bite. We were given appointments within an hour of calling both times, and treated professionally and efficiently. The staff were all pleasant and thoroughly explained procedures. Couldn't have asked for better treatment. read more
