An Allstar Cast! Evan Jay Newman shines as Valli!

An Allstar Cast! Evan Jay Newman shines as Valli! Jersey Boys was brought to life by a phenomenal cast and crew at Capital Repertory Theatre! As I looked beside me I could see couples holding hands who were being magically transported back to their first time seeing the Four Seasons. Evan Jay Newman lit up the stage as Frankie Valli and delivered a performance I can only describe as magical. What a fabulous triple-threat performer! Watching Newman, and well as Justin Scott Brown as Tommy Devito, Brian Michael Henry as Nick Massi, and Jeffrey Kringer as Bob Gaudio brought Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons to Albany right before our eyes. Shannon Rafferty delivered some of my favorite lines in the show as Mary Del Gaudio, and Kyle Garvin had me smiling so many times as multiple characters! And, Nick Anastasia as Joe Pesci was a Riot!!! The singing was superb, the acting we could feel in our souls, and the show as a whole I'll be fondly remembering with a smile for years to come. I can't wait to become a subscriber at this theatre as start seeing all the amazing performances they have to offer. Don't Miss Jersey Boys!!!!

Now, it's a sight for sore eyes! Better sound system and LED lighting were among the upgrades. A little more seating. New seats and flooring. New wall coverings. The public was invited to check out the improvements at a free evening event. When you consider that the distinctive facility is about a half century old, the upgrades were overdue. The helpful ushers are not paid to be tour guides so I'm not sure how accurate their information was. Some ushers said the bathrooms were not renovated. The bathrooms I visited did have upgrades, but I cannot understand why the some of the original hardware including the old, chipped sanitary napkin receptacles were screwed back into the womens' bathrooms stalls. It seriously detracted from the overall appearance and seemed to be a bad penny pinching decision after so much money was spent. I can't tell you about the men's rooms. The men in our group of friends said they thought some work had been done. The Egg's unique shape was inspired by the half grapefruit that Gov. Rockefeller was eating during a planning meeting. In this day and age of large venues, it remains a more intimate setting. The Kitty Carlisle Hart theatre has a capacity of just under 1,000 seats and there's another smaller theater just below it. I was in the audience a few years ago when Pete Davidson did his stand-up act at the Egg. He complained about the small size of the venue. He added another show for same day just to make it worth his while. I came away offended by some of what he tried to pass off as humor. If performers like Davidson don't want to play the Egg again, I'm okay with that. It has great acoustics for fine artists of a whole different caliber. The Egg re-cracked open with aerial performances by Good Karma Studio and the DJ Hollyw8d. Looking forward to attending many awesome performances in this newly improved venue!

The artistic integrity remains and of course the proportions and design inside and out continue to WOW! A+ in every way! This venue is worth a good look and please certainly enjoy the top notch offerings! Thank you for the thoughtful restoration! The new seating is super comfortable too!

The lead talent was excellent, and all was well done. I ordered tickets online, and there's more regret: the staging was different from years past. I thought getting seats which seemed close but to the side would give us a good view, but no. The action was just in the center of the stage, and the sides of the stage blocked off/covered by scenery. It made it very difficult to see the whole ensemble, especially at the angle we were at. Literally, probably the quarter of seats on the left and right sides had difficulty seeing. If you go- sit in the very center. I got a stiff neck from sitting in their chairs since I had to keep my head turned the whole show! P. S. - the ladie's rooms looked great - clean and maybe renovated?

The show begins at 8pm and we arrive early around 4pm to bring our chairs and get a parking place not to far away then we walk to the many restaurants in the area and have dinner! The professional company has adult and children musicals that offer choice seats for purchase and free seats (bring your own chair) amphitheater style raised seating on the hill. Great seats where ever you sit! Just a wonderful evening we have been enjoying for quite a few years now. Regretfully I don't know why we didn't try it sooner maybe when our kids were younger it's so important to offer your children access to the arts!

The Albany Symphony with David Alan Miller were the heroes this time. Friendly ushers gave the children passports so the children could identify each instrument they tried and put a sticker next to it. This is a very well thought out project for children to keep their interest while they are being exposed to a variety of instruments. Free t shirts were given to the children as well. The people who assisted the children with the instruments were patient, knowledgeable and very encouraging. John Keal Music Store was responsible for providing the instruments. Then the concert started---- fabulous ----and so informative. An opera singer appeared in several roles engaging the audience in lively banter. David Alan Miller comes flying out in a Superman outfit to the delight of all. HE IS SUPERB. He entertained, engaged and conducted for one hour--- a great time frame for children. He ran off stage at the end of the concert and personally greeted all on their way out. The show was 20.00/adults and FREE for children. May 4, 3019 will be the next performance --- May the fourth/force be with you. All the audience are encouraged to dress up and enjoy it all. Put this on your calendar for sure.
