I've chartered a ton of fishing trips, and having a good captain makes all the difference in the world. Can't wait till our next trip!

We started by fishing for specked trout and were rewarded by staying persistent on a spot that Mike targeted as a "honey hole". Afterwards we worked our way up towards and area parallel to the Arroyo Colorado. Working our way through some vegetation-covered spits that had unseasonally hugh water around them, we were able to start casting for reds. Within about an hour we had three keepers. Next we headed towards Rattlesnake bay. Again due to the unusually high water (rest of the mainland was flooding with torrential rain) we were able to creep in on some sand covered bottoms. We hooked up on our last keeper red and then decided to call it a day. As it turned out we got to Jim's pier, had the fish cleaned and were on the road after parting ways with Mike but just in time before a heavy storm hit the island. Our timing and trip was perfect. Mike was patient, curteous, persitent, and a good teacher. Exactly what we needed after being away from bay fishing for so long and what's needed in a guide. Thanks again, Capt. Mike. Hopefully we go fishing or try hunting in the next few months or so.

I had never experienced Bay fishing before I scheduled that first trip with Captain Clayton Mock; and what an exciting and different experience it is from what I was used to. First off, I was under the assumption that we might have to go out into deeper waters which made me a little nervous because of how choppy the ocean can get but it turns out you stay in between the Island and the mainland where the waters are almost always calm and perfect. There are also plenty of spots where you are fishing in only a few feet of water which allows you to see so many different kinds of marine life. Capt Clayton Mock has been fishing these waters since he was child so he knows all the best spots. Not only that but his equipment is topnotch; everything from the Rods, to the lures, to the Boat; I felt confident with all aspects of the trip. Now for the best part; catching fish. I couldn't believe how different this experience was from the fishing I was used to. It's definitely like nothing I had ever experienced. The Redfish put up a tremendous, yet manageable, fight. Every time you hook one you are in for a treat. And trust me, he put us on plenty of fish which gave us a lot of exciting moments. We also caught Trout which aren't as strong as the Redfish but they have some wicked front teeth and I even caught the crazy looking flounder (which can be tricky to do at times and honestly wouldn't have been possible without the direction and advice of Capt Clayton). I have been fishing with Captain Clayton Mock twice now, once with a friend and once with my dad, and both experiences were very enjoyable and very successful. I absolutely plan to go back because I really want to take my girlfriend. This is definitely a fishing trip that can be enjoyed by anyone. P.S. Heading out from the Marina as the sun rises is icing on the cake. It's so beautiful out there on the water so don't forget to take pictures and most importantly enjoy your day!!!!

Unfortunately all of the guides were having a rough day but Clayton was able to help us get four keepers in the box. Three trout and one black tip. Great sense of humor! We had a great time and plan on hiring him again in the future.

But he didn't over-explain it either. It was just the right combination of educator and personality. We maxed out on trout and got a skip jack as well. We then made the decision to go after some other red fish. We weren't able to catch any, but did reel in a bunch of catfish, which at least kept us busy. We all had a great time and the 13-yr old gave it a 9.5 out of 10!

Day one was a tough as the island had four straight days of significant wind and the Bay was dirty. We fought through it and brought in a decent haul of trout, including a couple of Gafftoptsail catfish. Day two was significantly calmer, and we maxed out on trout in the first hour. We then were able to haul in a few reds, flounder, a blacktip shark, and a big skipjack. Capt. Paco is the right mix of great fishermen/capt and personality. He's patient with amateurs and a good teacher. Capt. Paco brings his own bait. We've had previous guides that waste a significant amount of fishing time finding the shrimp boats to purchase Croaker (and made us pay for it). Capt. Paco filets the fish himself without charging $1 per filet. (I'd recommend a tip for this as some other Captains have outsourced this job).
