First of all, we were looking for something that wouldn't take all day like the whale watch cruises…read moredo, and as I got to choose the activity, I chose seal watching. I was on this tour about 20 years ago prior to the reappearance of the sharks and wanted to see if there would be a noticeable difference in the population. We made our reservation online a couple days before our trip (so easy) so it was easy peasy once we showed up. They were very good with communication as our trip was moved up to an earlier time and they let us know promptly. Knowing the area we weren't worried about getting lost and being late for the cruise but if you aren't familiar with the cape don't worry, it's super easy to find. We showed up at the requested time and were quickly boarded. It was a brisk cape day but if you NOT a polar beast (like me) and you go off season you will want to remember that it gets chillier on a boat steering into the wind than it will be on shore....dress appropriately. We started off and the captain gave all safety instructions as well as some points to notice as we pulled out of the harbor. It is a bit of a trek to Monomoy island from the harbor, but along the way the guide and the captain would chime in with what we could see. Then...quite suddenly...there they were. The largest congregation grey seals in North America. Grey seals don't "bark", they "moan" so it's very haunting. When they noticed us, there was a stampede on the beach of the younger individuals to be part of the welcoming party. The guide said that the older bigger seals are bored with us and couldn't be bothered to stop sunning themselves. We had adorable little heads popping up left and right studying us like we studied them. After a while it was time to bid farewell to those adorable squishy bodies and off we went on a bit of a tour of nearby harbors. At several points the captain would stop and we would be educated about the area and things like how erosion affects these areas and how it's all part of the parks landscape to protect not just seals but birds. I can honestly say as a nature geek I was in heaven. The tour is not too expensive and completely worth every single cent. Our guide was wonderful and very knowledgeable to answer most of my questions. Sadly, it was too early in the season for sharks and orcas...so no predation occured. Sigh. I say this is one of the best excursions offered on the Cape and if you are a nature geek as well then it should rank high on your bucket list!

The sunset was incredible, and with it being Covid limited capacity and each group spread out. Captain Joe and the naturalist are happy to take any picture you want, and have a great restaurant recommendation next door to marina, Mattakeese Wharf. Great for couples, kids, and an evening night out!

Hard to overstate how great a time we had on our trip! We were two families with 4 children…read morebetween 5 and 10 on the sandbar trip, which is geared toward kids. From the moment we arrived at the boat, our guide Andrea had all the kids completely engrossed: she had a table set up with live shrimp, fish, sea squirts, etc. ready for the kids to look at under magnification. After a 15 minute ride out to the sandbar, Andrea led us around on foot for about an hour and it was fascinating! Her ability, with almost every step, to identify creatures with interesting stories was a blast for kids and adults alike. Her knowledge is encyclopedic, and her manner is pure enthusiasm. Get on the boat!

Our time on Magellan have been the 2 best charters we have ever done by far. The combination of extraordinary knowledge, and delightful personalities has made this into an unbreakable Family tradition for us. We, on the other hand, like to eat, what we catch. I have been on the Magellan more than half a dozen times. Mostly with Jason (and could not recommend him enough), who this past week we found out was no longer working with Lenny. Why? Because Lenny is too cheap. We tried to book a trip this past Monday (June 25, 2018) and Lenny insisted that we start an 8 hour trip at 3:00 a.m. Who wants to go fishing that early in the morning? Finally we negotiated a 10:00 a.m. start time. The idea was to catch striped bass (and the occasional blue) to start off, and then come back for porgies and black sea bass. The first fish that we caught was a little over 32 inches; the second 34; the third 35 inches. At that point, Lenny declared that any fish over 34 inches was "commercial" and we could not keep - we kept fishing until each one on the boat reached the one fish (under 34 inches) limit, leaving Lenny with 5 stripers, some over 40 inches, which Lenny pretended that "did not exist". He also suggested that that porgy and black sea bass fishing "has not been good lately" - so we cut our trip to 3.5 hours. Yep - $750.00 for 3.5 of fishing - mostly, catching fish for the captain. I called Lenny to express my disappointment, and he has not bothered to called me back. I get that money is his underlying objective, and I don't mind paying him fair rates, but I felt cheated for bringing the least amount of fish home, from any other time that we have gone fishing, while blistering my hands, catching fish for Lenny.

Our Sunset Tour was one of the favorite things we did while on the Cape. The history of both the…read moredunes themselves and the cabins used by writers, artists, and others were quite interesting, and our guide (whose name, sadly, this old brain cannot recall) did a fantastic job during the tour of highlighting the historic and scientific aspects of what we were seeing. We ended up watching a beautiful sunset on the beach, enjoying the beverages we brought along. Personally, I'd recommend doing the Suburbans over the Broncos. We were originally disappointed when we realized we had reserved the former, but having done the trip, I'm not seeing the value of paying so much more for basically the same tour. Definitely recommend!

Bruce kept us entertained with stories and pictures of his 25 years on the sea. He was a pleasure and his sense of humor was enjoyable for all. He was very good about keeping the kids entertained. He handled every aspect of the experience such as casting, maintaining the lines and unhooking the fish. We reeled them in, having a great time with the fight.

We are long time Cape people and now that our daughter is getting older, really wanted to take her out on the water this summer. however, we were nervous to do a full whale watching day as her first time out since we didn't know how she'd be on the water. We cannot stress enough how amazing the 10:30 am Scenic Tour was!!!! It was 90 minutes, perfect for young kids. We saw seals, lighthouses, cormorants, and as a serious surprise, Whales! First off, the boat is big and very comfortable with a bathroom downstairs, benches inside where you are sheltered from the weather, or if you want to enjoy the weather you can head to the roof where there's more seating. The main attraction is the back deck where there are plenty of slots to get lines in the water. Captain Seamus is knowledgeable and accommodating, not only teaching us how to prepare/cook the fish we caught but also places to visit and things to do while we are here. We caught SO MANY FISH! On the way back he has a raw bar on the back of the boat where he gutted and filleted our catch. He even sliced up some sashimi so we could sample our catch, so delicious! I just got off the boat (Jail Break) and I felt so great about the experience that this is my first yelp review, highly recommended!
