What can i say ...I love fishing and i love the Captain Gillen , Captree State Park The crew are friendly and accommodating .They work hard , get excited when you catch fish and offer suggestions when your not . They also make me laugh with plenty of fishing and other stories . I have observed them with newbies and children and they are patient and attentive .The captain seems to find the fish on most days . Been fishing on the Gillen for over forty years. Took my grandson for a four hour fluke trip yesterday morning/afternoon. The boat is kept spotless and the crew are so nice. Special attention paid to the kids in assisting them and letting them check out their catch handling and releasing what isn't kept. Steady action all trip with more than a couple keepers and many many just under 19' . Catch included skates,sea robins, sea bass and kid favorite sand sharks. Highly recommend for family fun! read more

A couple unfair reviews here, so wanted to throw mine out. As for party boats, I prefer heading out to the ocean for full-days. I chose Capt Gillen for the half day bay yesterday. We caught a ton of fish on all but two drifts. It was the first time taking my young boys out and they had a blast. My eldest pulled up seven fish, all shorts or sea-robins, but the action and smooth sea was more important than keepers for this trip. The price was fair for the kids. Teaching the boys the basics was worth the price of admission alone. Mates were incredible! Patient, always around, and very helpful. We will be back, and if anybody has a boat and wants a good friend, let me know, lol. read more

I cannot say enough good things about our day on the Captain Gillen. The deck-mates were super helpful and fun. In observance of covid rules they did their best to keep people separated. We had the entire side of the boat to ourselves. We caught plenty of fish but only 1 keeper. I am looking forward to going out again on the Captain Gillen! read more

**REVISED** after posting my last review; Captain Gillen employees tried very hard on reaching out. I do have to say their care and compassion for each customer really goes noticed. Lori automatically refunded the tickets that I bought (less then 12 hours after the incident) and apologized and wanted to make things right. Lori and I spoke on the phone for over 20 min and she is an absolute sweetheart! The compassion and customer service really speaks for itself. Lori explained this was their third year on doing a "non boating" experience on the water and they are still learning on the right approach to everything. Her understanding and respect really touched my heart. Side note: we ending up knowing a few people through our life experiences. And really got to know one another. With this being said I would definitely try Captain Gillen's fishing and boat ride! Thank you for being so understanding and kind!!! read more

9/2/19 went on the 11-3 Fluke fishing trip. Although we caught no keepers pretty much everybody on the boat was catching flukes, black bass, a few sea robins and a few crabs here and there. Great boat and Captain and a very attentive crew. Thank you all. We'll be back! Ben, Dan & Sal read more

This was my first charter boat experience in New York and I have to say I was extremely happy! The crew were fantastic and super friendly. There were a lot of kids screwing around, not listening and getting tangled with everyone else but the crew maintained their professional and helpfulness. When we were not catching anything the captain moved the boat to another location. Everyone caught something however they were not large enough to keep. If you have never fished before that might disappoint you. However if you know a thing or two about fishing you understand that sometimes that's how it goes. I had an absolute blast and I will most definitely be going on the Capt. Gillen again here in the next few days. read more

I had booked a striper trip and paid in advance according to the Covid protocols. I could not make the trip because of my day off being cancelled. I figured I would just take my medicine and forego the fair. I received a call from the office of Captain Gillen a few minutes before sailing and was told I would receive a refund which is a very nice gesture. Kudos to the Captain Gillen who went out on the 4 pm trip on 10/12 with only 4 fares. We went to the ocean and the 2 mates fished as well and 5 nice keepers came onboard. The mates let others fight their fish and they gave away their fish to take home. Always great service and always a good time. I recommend the Capt Gillen! read more

Excellent first experience in fishing! The shipmates showed how to use the rod, bait and tackle. The captain went to different areas in order to change the scenery to increase chances of catching fluke or other fish. I caught 2. The weather worked out very well and the sailing was amazing.
