A friend recommended this trip. Booked tickets on website. 5-9 pm trip : $59 for adults and $40 for 12 and under. I also saw many people pay on site. You bring your own snack/ food. I see people bringing alcohol too. Recommend to arrive 30 min ahead. Pro: - located in captree state park. All boats are located right at entrance where the restaurant is. Easy to find. Big parking lot. - we were greeted by the mates right away. Friendly. - all fishing equipment provided. Fake bait used. - Three mates noted. Kevin and Andrew helped us the most. Very attentive. They made rounds often to see anyone need help. They show our inexperienced family how to cast/ reel. They were right there with a net when someone reel in a fish. - I didn't get Seasick during this 4 hours trip despite it was windy - left exactly at 5 pm and arrived back a little after 9 pm. - the ship moved around at least 5 times to attempt to catch fish. - ship sells $2 candy, $1 chips etc. reasonable price. - I called the website number to confirm the day before. A man answered with good attitude. Con: - there were about 15-20 customers. Despite spreading out, fishing lines were frequently tangled up. - as far as I know, only 4 fishes were caught and only one keeper ( small bluefish) during the whole trip among everyone. Not their fault though. - after I paid online, I only got email from PayPal for payment confirmation. I never got email or text confirmation from the Fishfinder itself. - it can be costly. We paid $200 for a family of 4. I can't comment the bathroom since I didn't use. Other reviews stated there were no running water. And I'm not sure if live bait will make any difference. Will return for special occasions. Overall it's a fun trip. Kids had fun Tip: state park fishing pier is next to the dock. From having mates that you can hear talking crap behind your back to being to helping out others when the mates where no where to be found, the mates we're extremely standoffish and made you feel like you knew nothing. I also asked the captain when they would be using live eels for bait, his response was "when the fish show up" completely unprofessional, no respect and not one fish on board except for a blowfish. To start men's bathroom was a nightmare, then there's the issue of them saying it's a live eel/casting trip whichever works better well then why did we sit all night throwing the same bass assasin over and over in the same exact spot from one end of the bridge to the other even after other boats had given up and when people asked to be set up with eels the poor mate kevin who was awesome btw had to tell people I can't put eels on unless the Capt says so ? Well after 3 hours doing nothing with cast masters isn't it time to try another spot and something different, this is probably the third time I've been on this boat in recent years and it has gotten skunked. If you guys were killing them outside today like the captain said why the fuc& didn't you head right out there tonight ? ...... cause there were 7 fares on the boat that's why you took us for a 4 hour boat ride knowing damn well the fish weren't there that they were outside on the pods like they always are last trip on this boat I'm very disappointed how you guys make yourselves out to be a bad ass striped bass boat read more

I went out on this fishing boat this past week and i had a blast. It was the first fishing boat out of Captree that i actually saw a lot of action. This crew knew exactly where the hot spots were and just about everyone on the boat caught a keeper. The trip was for blues and bass. We only saw blues, but lots of them. What i also liked was that it was not overcrowded like the fluke boats where you are almost shoulder to shoulder with the person next to you. They're was plenty of room to move around on this boat without feeling cramped at all. The mates were very helpful and always right there when you needed them, whether it was to fix your line or help net that big catch you were trying to reel in. They were very personable and were a real pleasure to have helping you. Im not a die hard fisherman, so it made the trip more enjoyable having someone there to help and encourage me throughout the trip. There were some snacks available for sale on board such as chips and cookies. There were also several cold beverage choices and coffee. I would still recommend bringing a drink and sandwich along though. My brother and i went home with a fairly large bag of bluefish fillets. It was enough for his family of 4 plus myself to have an awesome dinner with some leftovers for the next day. All in all, i had a great time and would definitely go out again. Overall with the cost of the trip, pool entry for the largest fish, and tip for the mates, I'd say you should figure about $65 to $75 pet person total. I would recommend this fishing boat for both adults and children. In fact, a little girl who couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 years old caught the 2nd largest fish on the boat during my trip. Went out last night 7/14/22 and when we boarded the boat we were met by two mates. One of them rigged my pole while the second one rigged my friends. Fishing was a bit slow which I understand. There could not of been 10 people on the boat. I finally caught my 1st blue fish and I yelled "fish on!!". No response. So again FISH ON I NEED A NET still no response. After yelling several times that I need a mate I hear someone yelling back be right there. After what seemed like way to long I yelled again and still no mate. He finally comes back and said they had another fish in the front. Well yes I lost that fish while the mate was grabbing the net. A minute later I see the second mate walking to the back of the boat with a blue fish. Telling us he just caught it up front. Thats right the mate was to busy helping the other mate catch a fish and that's why he did not come to me. Where was the captian???? I will never fish this boat again. read more

The Fishfinder is probably the best boat that I have fished on in the NY, Long Island area. The capt., Walter, is a very serious fisherman in his own right. There is no body better when it comes to striped bass. Many times you will find Walter fishing along side the guests on the boat. The Crew: Jeff, who is in charge of the crew and the fishing deck is also a great fisherman. He makes sure that all of his mates are the best, helpful, friendly and attentive. All of the guys are super. You never have to wait for or ask for more bait. And the boat does not skimp on bait. You will hear Jeff and Walter telling everybody to change your bait. This boat does not skimp on the quantity or the quality of the bait that they supply. If I wanted to keep a secret I would not have written this report. This is a GEM of a boat and organization. Because of my wonderful experiences on the Fishfinder 2 I am compelled to write a great review. What a great time. Social distancing practiced. I am NO fisherman and did not catch anything however the boat caught buckets of blues ( which we were out for ) and a few strippers. Everyone was well behaved and the mates worked hard to help me. I had a great time regardless of catching anything. Went out fishing during the night rounds (10p-2) , had a blast. Their mate Andrew was fantastic and was so helpful!! Kevin was supposed to be our mate but he didn't seem to want to be there and when he touched the fish he would say " disgusting". And he also gave my family additude for getting fish blood on the boat because "he has to scrub the boat later" I don't think he is in the right career. Other then Kevin, this boat was great! Booked a trip for 4 for 5-9PM on a Saturday night. We boarded a little past 5 as we were running late and I called ahead to make sure we won't miss the trip. They were very accommodating. My family hasn't fished on a boat before and the crew members assisted us every time we needed them. Henry (I hope that's what his name was)was one of the main ones who guided us on how to wheel in the fish. He was very nice and made sure we were doing ok each time. Anytime our string has gotten caught up or when my younger sister needed assistance, he helped out. The captain moved the ship a couple times to make sure we were getting fishes. We caught 8 Flukes that we get on board since they met the length requirement but caught way more small ones. I was hesitant on booking this place after the reviews, but I guess we lucked it with the 5-9pm. We returned back to the dock at around 9:15PM. read more

Hey sometimes you catch, sometimes you don't. This captain tried. They definitely horde the newbies and people they don't know on the the sides of the boats. The front and back are reserved for regulars who have their own rods. The mates seem tired and don't help the people who are inexperienced enough. Don't show them how to let down the line, how to bait the hook. They should get with it and have a recycling garbage can for cans. Have containers for the smokers (and there were a lot of smokers) so they don't throw their butts into the sea. Have some respect for the environment. Boat cleanliness was good but bathrooms had no running water. We started off in the bay and was doing very well catching shorty flukes and tons of Sea Robins. Ended up going out to the ocean right over a reef where a bunch of lines ended up getting stuck. Downfall was no running water, constant moving to catch the right drift...understandable, but more time was wasted on traveling then fishing and of course the gross throw up in the bathroom which was unsettling that it wasn't cleaned right away especially due to the pandemic. Positive note: the crew and boat rules definitely followed the social distance rule with each of us spread out appropriately. Total of I believe six keeper fluke onboard. Overall, was not satisfied and will not be returning. However, I have to commend ...I believe her name was Emma. She was such a hard worker. Very attentive, Swift, & polite. Kudos to Emma! Will never do business with them again. On Tuesday Purchased 2 tickets online, they cancelled due to no one else being on the boat. Fine, no problem. I ask the "captain" about getting my refund, he says my account will be credited by Thursday (never bothering to ask me name, contact info, etc. cudnt care less). Patiently waited til Friday, still no refund. I call and leave a message with the office, after 4 days no call returned. These people literally robbed me of my money. Have contacted Mastercard to get my money back. These people are the absolute worst, will call the BBB to see if I can get there license/permit revoked. I will advertise to everyone I know about my experience to make sure no one I know use your services. I hope you thieves go out of business read more

First trip they had for night striped bass fishing. I picked up 7 tickets for my mothers birthday at 60 each, no group rates. Anyways, one cannot hold the crew accountable for catching one measly weakfish for the whole 4.5 hour trip, but sheesh staying under the bridge the whole time was definitely not doing it. The front of the boat caught the only fish there were. Everybody else was complaining/sitting inside/sleeping. Trip was deff not worth the ticket price. Tip was deserved as the crew was very attentive to untangling and rigging us up. Stay away from the sides, stay in front or the back if you want a decent chance in getting something. Three stars for the crew, and the captains willingness to keep us out a bit more to try and catch something. The two missing are what were missing from the trip...fish and running water and once more fish (It is the fall run). read more

Took a 10pm trip out for blues and we just sat under the bridge for most of the night. Tide was moving hard but we didn't catch much of anything. That's okay, that's fishing. But on their site they said they have good fishing that night and had plenty of blues and some stripers. There was not plenty, they had maybe 4 on the boat and a total of 2 keeper fish I believe. You can have bad fishing but don't lie about it on the fishing report. read more

Waste of time . Were catching in the bay not sure why we had to drive out to the ocean for 40 mins and sit on a reef where everyone was getting sruck on. Moved to other spots un the ocean lines were going all the way under the boat couldnt feel the bottom . Second time on this boat wont be going back. A few keepers that was it for the whole boat. A 7 pm-12 am fishing trip turned a 1:40 am return to the dock. The crew was surly, tired and rarely seen. They decided the best place to leave 30 rods was at the stern, in a huge pile, limiting access to fishing. We've been on many Captree fishing boats over the years, and every single one had a more friendly and engaging staff. The attitude of the crew on the Fishfinder cast a gloomy pall over the boat. For this kind of money, find another fishing boat that stays close to its timetable and has a crew that has at least some enthusiasm and vigor for the job. read more

I have been a fisherman for over 55 years. I have fished on many party boats and can say without hesitation that The Fishfinder II is by far the best boat I have ever been on. The mates and the captain make you feel like family. I was lucky enough to find this boat this summer and I plan on going on many more trips throughout my fishing career. Last week I needed to get back a bit earlier and decided to sail with another boat. The fishing experience was no where as good as The Fishfinder. I asked Jeff the mate (amazing guy) why their fishing experience seems so much better. He smiled at me and said, "Lawrence, when there are 12 bakeries on one block, you got to make the best cookies." Well let me tell you the best way I can by saying The Fishfinder makes the best cookies by far! The only problem you are going to have if you do sail with them is that you will get spoiled because as I said before they are amazing!! I could go on and on saying how great they are. If you are thinking about going fishing, definitely go to Captree and see either Walter the captain or Jeff the mate and tell them Lawrence from Brooklyn sent you. You will not be sorry!! read more

Lousy experience. I know the crew of the boat cannot determine how many fish you catch, so that's not the point, even though we caught nothing. The boat trip seemed to be lasting a bit too long so we inquired and the crew refused to bring us back on time. We returned hours later than scheduled, and as a result, missed our dinner reservations (which I had mentioned to the crew but they ignored), and I suffered second degree sunburn. What kind of fishing boat for tourists lasts 7 hours, refuses to return on time, and was overall rather unaccommodating? Apparently this one. It's a dirty boat, no running water to wash in the bathroom, and a clumsy crew member dropped a huge filet knife so close to where I was standing, I was lucky to get out of the way, and the crew did not even notice. I am not one to complain and write nasty reviews, but future customers deserve to know what kind of business this is. read more

Been on many boats out of Captree and the one thing you can say is that most boats understand the need to try and make the experience as pleasant as possible. Not the case with this boat. This review is for the 7 pm to 12 am night striped bass trip this past Saturday night. I'll start off with the good. The crew was helpful and courteous, always ready to help us when lines became tangled or when other issues arose. It is for the crew alone that I give 2 stars, otherwise I would give zero. Now for the bad. I don't blame the boat for the fact that no one on board (there must have been around 25 of us) didn't catch even one striped bass. The most that was caught was a rope that some poor guy thought was a keeper bass. We were fishing in the fire Island inlet and the truth of the matter is the inlet is synonymous with catching no fish. Everyone knows the inlet was fished out a long time ago and is now polluted. However, I do blame the boat for the fact that we did not return to the dock until 1:15 am!! For some unknown reason the captain decided to stay out over an hour longer than we were supposed to in a crazy attempt to catch a fish, when no one on board had caught a fish for 5 hours. It reached a point where people on board just stopped fishing and went inside the cabin to sleep. It almost felt like we were being held hostage on the boat due to some lunatic captain trying to be a fishing hero. If we stayed out any longer someone on board would have probably had to call the coast guard to bring us in. Again, I don't blame the boat for catching no fish, however I do blame the captain for his inconsiderate actions in keeping us out well past the advertised return time when everyone was frustrated and tired to begin with.
