I appreciate the great customer service at this facility. The front desk staff, medical assistants, and atmosphere all got 5 stars from me. Very clean, relaxing, and didn't wait long at all after making an appointment the morning of. I actually had a really bad experience once in the exam room; the NP had a super rough edge and in short, left me feeling really lousy, without answers or support I had hoped to get. However, Upon reading my complaint the MD at the facility was very quick to be understanding and address the situation. I intend to try it again next time I am in need. read more

As everyone else has said, this place is absolutely terrific. Christmas Eve, after five days of the flu and getting sicker and sicker, I could see a Chritmas morning in the ER coming my way. I found this urgent care center with all five-star Yelps and I thought "sounds good to me." Actually if I could give them ten stars I would! Amazing service and VERY quick!! I wasn't able to see my regular doctor, due to time of day, and they were recommended by another service provider who has urgent care, but I would need to be a member (which I'm not). It said a great deal that another doctor's office (group) was recommending them. I was also happily surprised by how tech savvy and efficient they were. So welcoming, kind and caring. The doc who helped me got right to the matter and tested my situation, gave me something for pain, and digitally sent in my prescription. Very good experience. In and out in under 30 minutes!! 3 stars at best. Clean facility but not my preference, I find the boutique aspect too techie. You have to download their app for results; they are averse to paper. I am a patient navigator who goes to numerous medical facilities with clients and I found this one to be the most amateur, including their equipment (blood pressure tower.) They are not affiliated with local hospitals so they cannot access records nor can they easily send records to other facilities. They simply handed a written form to my client and suggested he get to an ER. Once reviewed, his primary care physician dismissed the EKG conclusions as "overreaching" . It was difficult to get a walk-away hard copy of the EKG. Took two weeks to retrieve. Not on level of a John Muir or Sutter Urgent Care but I do not doubt they provide helpful services from some. read more

My first born daughter's due date was a few days ago. As luck would have it, I started having sinus infection symptoms that are identical to the sinus infections I get every year. Every single year it's the same story where I try to wait it out with over the counter medications before finally caving in after a few weeks to get a Z-pack antibiotic, which clears it up instantly. Since this was a Saturday I decided to go to the Carbon Health Urgent Care in Berkeley instead of my regular doctor to try to get the Z-pack and clear this up before our daughter comes. However, Dr(?). Maisa came into the room with her mind already made up that she was not going to give me antibiotics even though this is like the 30th time I've gone through symptoms identical to this and that the birth of my daughter could happen any day. The prescriptions she gave me have done almost nothing, and now there's a huge risk that they won't let me in to be with my wife while our baby is born. I am fully vaccinated for Covid and the Covid test they gave me turned out negative. I can appreciate that we don't want antibiotic-resistant sicknesses, but is this really more important than me being there for my wife while our daughter is born? Dr(?). Maisa didn't care about me nor the fact that this was an extreme circumstance for something very important to our family, and the pain from me potentially not being able to be there for the birth of my daughter will last a lifetime. read more

Last weekend, Saturday, my fiance cut his finger pretty bad while cooking. We didn't want to go to ER so my friend recommended urgent care. We came here around 6pm and within 20 min we were seen and taken care of. The staff was great and the facility is NEW and Very Clean and accommodating. I would highly recommend coming here if you don't have a life threatening injury. 5 starts all aound!! read more

This place is the BEST! I limped into the nicest looking waiting room equipped with iMacs and Wifi. I was seen (sans appointment) within 30 minutes by the nicest pair of nurses. So kind and sympathetic. A shot to my tonsils to reduce swelling, a $4 penicillin prescription and I was on my merry way. I WILL TOTALLY COME HERE AGAIN WHEN I AM SICK. read more

Since this I have been back twice (apparently the winter season had me down). Both times I was seen promptly, and doctors & staff were friendly and polite - and completely healed me of all ailments. One of the times, I did not have my health insurance information. The staff were wonderful and let me retroactively apply my insurance - refunding my card. What great customer service! read more

I had an urgent care appointment scheduled at 4:50 on a Sunday (9/29) for a fever and terrible cough. At 4:35 I saw there was a message on my phone from Carbon Health that said they decided to close early and unless I can get there in the next 5-10 minutes they'll be closed. If I want to make an appointment for the Oakland office (who apparently has more appointments) I can call them back and they'll reschedule it for me. I called back right away at 4:35 and they were, of course, closed. Terrible customer care. I won't be back. Also, I checked online and there were no appointments available at the Oakland location either. read more

I had such a pleasant experience here this morning! The office itself feels very clean but not a fluorescent light doctors office feel, just very comfortable. When I checked in I was greeted by the front desk (everyone from beginning to end was so friendly), when I let her know I didn't have insurance she made sure I was aware of their prices and they even have a list at the counter where you check it out. It was a great service at a affordable price and although I don't hope I have to go back any time soon I highly recommend them to anyone! read more

On a weekend day, when I was at home with my toddler, she scratched my cornea, resulting in incredible pain every time I blinked. Found DUC and got it dealt with right away. Friendly, professional doctor and empty waiting room. I got more than enough attention for my needs and a follow-up call too. I found this place within a week after it opened and had such a good experience I thought it must be because the place was new and not yet overwhelmed. Apparently not. I'm very impressed with Carbon Health here in Berkeley. Had a concern I wanted checked out when I woke up this morning. I was able to hop online, schedule an appointment for today, and even fill out paperwork before I got there. I was immediately taken back at my scheduled time, seen by the doctor in under 5 minutes, and was home 30 minutes later. I will definitely be using this location for weekend emergencies. Staff is very nice, check in is quick and paperless. They use iPads to sign the paperwork, which may be challenging for some people. The waiting area is small and I felt like I was just getting coughed on. I was seen pretty quickly. Their website has a wait time estimator. You can make an appointment or walk in. It's one of the better urgent cares I have been to. The staff is friendly and efficient, and really make the difference. read more

I saw Sean Parkin for an issue and he was amazing. I have tried so many different doctors and facilities over time - and have never felt so comfortable and relaxed with a doctor. I wish he was a also in adult medicine so he could be my primary care! And the place itself is awesome - they give you water, have comfortable couches. All extremely sweet staff. I took my 6 yo into DUC with a swollen ankle. We had no appointment, but we were able to get on the wait list through their website, it told us the approximate wait time we would expect. When we got in the staff was ready for us and we easily filled out paper work on their iPad. The wait was short for a room, the MA was prompt kind and even gave my daughter a coloring book The NP Tagina was friendly. Courteous and excellent with my daughter, it was so convene that we could have an X-ray right there. The X-ray tech was warm and kind with my daughter. With in half an hour we had the results, a short consult and were sent on our way. The staff seemed to enjoy seeing a young kid in the office ( well a cutie) and even the folks who did not attend to us were lovely. read more

The one star is for no wait time on a saturday without appt. My daugther who is a student at Berkeley went to this urgent care because of an illness was treated and precribed medication that was supposed to be sent to a CVS and was told it would be done in about 1-2 hours. After 2 hours she checked with the CVS and no prescription, watied another hours rechecked and nothing. She called Carbon and was told that someone forgot to send the prescription but they will send it asap. She was told to go to the CVS and it will be there. My daughter went to the CVS and was told no prescription came in and then she received a text message that the prescription was sent to some random pharmacy in San Francisco. She started calling carbon over and over at 4 p.m. no answer can't get through. Then finally at close to 5 p.m. she finally got through and was told to wait it'll be there in a few minutes. I also ended up calling Carbon and finally got through after 5 phone message left and calling over and over for 40 minutes and the phone system just hangs up on you with only an ability to leave a message. Finally got through to a customer service agent who said she's looking at the call/activity log for my daugther and said she can't verify that the prescription has been sent because whoever took her call didn't update the activity log. I have to say this person was nice and said she'll follow up, but the incompetency of this urgent care clinic is beyond what I have ever encountered. I still don't have confirmation that the prescription has been sent. Don't ever go to this urgent care. read more

I felt very well taken care of by the entire staff. Dr. Kaufman and Nancy really were professional. I don't have a PCP, and I am moving to Kaiser on September 1, so I didn't want to have to deal with finding a doctor, just to have to find a new one in a month. Even though he was managing several patients at once, I didn't once feel unimportant, or uncared for. I am an RN, BSN and I can tell you that he is one of the most pleasant physicians I have met. they are able to do x-rays, and IM/SQ injections. In an ER, it would take forever before being seen after triage, and they were able to take me early, and even offered me ibuprofen for my pain right away. good people, good care, good job Direct Urgent Care. I also dug the paper free iPad check in. I saw the physician assistant, Sean. He was incredibly nice and attentive. I was in and out of there with a prescription in half an hour. I came in for a cut after a biking accident and everyone was super friendly and helpful. I got the wound cleaned up, bandaged, and had a tetanus shot just to be safe. I really appreciate that the clinic was open until 8pm on weekends because we don't choose when we get hurt! read more

Came in for a hernia. The girl at the front desk told me they might not accept my insurance but they'll try it anyway. I have a major health care rr as a provider. I don't know what that was all about. They continued to tell me I was next for over an hour. Then they kept calling people ahead of me. The girl next to me was puking in a bucket the whole time. My wife tested positive for covid and my kids and I got tested at carbon health who promised the results within 48 hours, but it's now 72 hours and nothing has come through. You CANNOT get through to anyone and when I called another branch they told me it can take another 3-5 days and then just hung up on me!! Now we can't tell my son's school if they should shut or not. I visited here last month when i thought I was at the onset of the flu and in between coverage periods for health insurance. Turned out that it was a nasty viral infection. Unfortunately, they experienced a business disruption because of the protests and the office was completely boarded up with curtailed hours (closing at 4.) However, I was able to make an appt at the last minute and was seen within a half hour of arriving at the office. The state of the art waiting room is really nice and spread out, which is nice during flu season when everyone is hacking and contagious. The staff was courteous and the Nurse Practitioner (a female) was especially nice and sympathetic to my misery. Gave me Tylenol to immediately bring down my fever and detailed instructions for relieving my symptoms. It set me back $150 or $175, which was worth it not having to deal with the anxiety of getting an appt with a traditional doctor and going through an insurance company. read more

So thankful that they are open late and their website allows for you to check the wait times and when the next available appointment time is. I kept checking back and someone had cancelled their appointment so i was able to schedule an appointment for a few hours later. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because i actually still had to wait 30mins before I was seen (according to the receptionist, one of the other patients required more time and so there was a backup). I'm used to being seen in less than 10 minutes at Urgent Care in NY so it was a bit of a wait for me. Regardless, staff here is amazing and kind. I notified them that I didn't have insurance and they explained their payment options. Very straightforward. The doctor explained everything to me and I never felt rushed even though I knew he had more patients to see and they were scheduled to close soon. I highly recommend them. Great service and staff. Should I need to go back to urgent care, I will definitely come back here. read more

The notion of "urgent care" is a bit new to me, but I like the idea of getting to a medical professional without waiting weeks for a doctor's appointment (or trying crash their overbooked schedule) or experiencing the dire circumstances of the ER, for hours. My experience at Direct suggests that there is a third way, when you have some malady that you can't ignore or play through. Walked in right when they opened and was done in 35 minutes, including registration tasks. Everyone was super-efficient, confident about their services, and friendly. And the facilities are clean, bright and modern. Some smart business people have found a great way to deliver at least certain healthcare services. read more

Get your vaccine. These guys are great and appreciated. If they reschedule the second dose, don't panic! They sometimes alternate between vaccines on different days. They are really quite organized and if you show up on time, you pretty much will get your shot within minutes of arriving. Online provider was pretty bad. even worse in real life. not actually a COVID testing site. just an urgent care provider trying to make extra money by doing COVID tests (poorly). took an hour to get tested with an appointment. no organization in terms of appointments vs walk-ins. think this terrible system is probably true of most telemedicine but it did seem exceptionally bad/disorganized here. wouldn't recommend getting tested here or getting any other kind of medical service here. read more

They administer the COVID 19 vaccines in LA. I got the first vaccine and I cannot get a second appointment. My due date for the 2nd is February 9 and I have not heard from them. Irresponsible. Difficult to get a hold of on the phone. They refuse to provide a second appointment and claim that they will email me. read more

Wow. Just called to determine if hubby can be seen today, and was informed that wait time would be 4 hours (so much for avoiding the craziness of an ER). Nevertheless, based on proximity and reviews, pressed on to find out if he was eligible for services based on insurance policy. "No problem," they said, "we take BC/BS." Ok, but our primary care is in SF, and he has a PPO policy, so can you run his number or group number to make sure? No. You have to go in and fill out ALL their paperwork, and then (eventually, I imagine) they'll tell us whether or not he's covered. "Sorry, that's just the way our system works." I guess I'm spoiled by 25 years of advocating for, establishing, and receiving patient-centered care. Sorry, your system doesn't work for us. read more

I have to rave about my experience with ALL of the staff here, from the receptionist to the medical technicians and physician assistants. They were all extremely helpful and knowledgeable and responsive. To think that I could get diagnosed and treated for a UTI over the holidays without sitting in an emergency room with sick people surrounding me.
