I visited this Carbon Health location today for a pre-employment drug screening, and what should have been a quick in-and-out appointment turned into a 45-minute wait in the lobby. During my visit, the elevator was out of service and the computer systems appeared to be down, which seemed to create significant delays. Unfortunately, I was on a tight schedule, and there was very little communication about what was causing the wait or how long it would be. I want to be clear that this is not a criticism of the staff. Everyone I interacted with was kind, friendly, professional, and helpful. By the time I was finally called upstairs, I was probably on my last nerve due to the delays, but the staff handled the situation with patience and courtesy. Once I was called upstairs, the actual testing process moved quickly. However, I was asked to repeatedly sign forms and present my ID multiple times throughout the process, which felt redundant and unnecessarily time-consuming. From my perspective, there appear to be opportunities to streamline the workflow, reduce duplication, and improve the overall customer experience. I was also concerned to see a patient who appeared to have mobility challenges needing assistance to navigate two flights of stairs because the elevator was out of service. The staff were kind and helped her, but accessibility should be a priority at a healthcare facility. I've completed similar screenings through Kaiser multiple times a year and am usually in and out within minutes. By comparison, this experience felt far less efficient and more cumbersome than it needed to be. I'd suggest going with another provider in these situations. Again, my comments are directed at the location's operational workflow and processes--not the staff, who were courteous and professional throughout my visit. read more

We made an appointment for Orthopedic Care for a Fracture. We were well into the appointment before the doctor told us they didn't have an x-ray machine or any orthopedic supplies such as a sling. We left and went to a different urgent care, an orthopedic surgeon, and a physical therapist. They were *all* astonished by the story of an urgent care without an x-ray, and that Carbon Health took appointments for a broken shoulder knowing that they didn't have as much as an x-ray. read more

Teacher here! No, I don't have the liberty to just go to the doctor in the middle of the day, so when I can book an appointment online the night before, book my sub, I'm going to the doctor to find out why after 14 days I feel miserable! This place is small, but it's great!! Yes the front desk person isn't all sunshine & rainbows, but they are competent and they get the job done. Every time I've come here, I've only waited 10 minutes at max to be seen which is so much better than any other urgent care in the area and the copay is the same at my doctors office. Actually, this place is better because I can get a morning appointment, take my meds by lunch and be on the mend by dinner so I can get back to the classroom the next day. I'm sad to read all of the snarky comments here, but maybe they are people who can go to the doctor whenever and time isn't precious to them. I don't know, but what I know is I have actually received better advice and care here than at my doctor's office. I really do feel they are more qualified and truly listen to my health issues. Let's start with the positives: The clinic looks nice, aesthetic, and clean. Now here's why I'm giving it 1 star: -the staff is unprofessional. They had a "idc" attitude. The moment I came in (9 AM), 2 people in the back were gossiping. They didn't even get up to greet me. They just waited until another team member arrived who managed the front desk. -place was tiny. I was able to hear everyone's names, phone numbers, DOB, and the reason for visit while sitting in the waiting room area. Major HIPAA flag -when the MA walked out of the room, she left the EMR screen open so I was able to see other patient's names and their visit date. HIPAA!! If the manager wants to reach out to me, I have the names of one of the MAs working the day of my visit. Overall, I would not come back. I used to like Carbon Health and how easy it is to book an appointment with them. But after my last appointment early this year, I recommended you stay away from them! The third-party laboratory they work with ended up charging me the bill instead of charging my insurance. I have messaged Carbon Health before about it and they said they will coordinate with the third-party. Radio silence afterwards. No follow through and now the third-party lab has been charging me for the bill Carbon should've looked into. Check the screenshots for receipts. I went in to pay out of pocket last 5/5/2025. First, they tried to bill my employer (since my employer paid my physical exam from them last February). Come July, I received a bill from quest, who was trying to bill my old insurance on file. I reached out to their clinic who confirmed that I have already paid for their services and that I should contact billing. I contacted billing, who said they could not help me and that I should contact quest. I messaged them back via their app last August and have not received a response. Based on a number of reviews detailing poor experiences, I will echo them in a similar way. Given what others have shared, I now feel like my last visit was considerably "fine." It likely had to do with the season (it was summer). Tbh I don't think I made an appointment. I just turned up around 10am on a Monday, and it wasn't busy. As such, I was able to be seen fairly quickly. The visit was due to concerns with chest pain and needing an EKG. The nurse was, fine? A bit moody when setting me up for the EKG. Maybe a case of the Mondays idk. When a physician's assistant eventually entered, their demeanor was already too... casual. "Sup bro" vibes. When I started to explain symptoms, I was essentially chastised for not going to the ER. I did go to the ER the night prior, but opted to leave when the wait was looking many hours long. At that point, my vitals were already taken at ER, and I was told my BP was slightly high, but not to emergency levels. So then, I was chastised for not staying at the ER. When I expressed some thoughts as to what was happening (possibly/very highly likely a panic attack), I was fully dismissed. They glazed over many details I shared, with responses that demonstrated inattentiveness. I eventually was told the EKG looks fine, and maybe I should see a cardiologist for further measure. Very thankfully, I have a pretty comprehensive PPO, so no issues with insurance and copay. But I could def see how people would encounter issues. The overall lack of attention and care from front desk staff is also pretty apparent. Customer/patient facing roles are best reserved for those who have the energy and personality for them. I tried visiting again the last few days due to a suspected sinus infection. I checked the app, which seemed pretty clear in terms of appointments. I do not live far at all, so figured I could turn up without issue. Appointments which are booked same day are essentially locked in, meaning you can't cancel, and you are charged a $50 fee if you don't make it. Which is nutty, and something I didn't want to chance given how unpredictable life has become lately. When I walked in, the waiting room was filled. I could see on the wall a screen with names and their appointment times. Somehow in the 10 mins it took me to check the app and drive over, all these spots were taken. I was told, in a very flat tone, they were no longer taking walk-ins and to return in a couple hours. Thankfully, Pasadena is a town where urgent cares are pretty abundant. Online appointments are easy to schedule, but it's an okay experience overall. I went there at the end of the day and it felt like they were rushing to close. I also can't stand doctors' offices that try to seem less "medical" like with the giant chairs as an exam table and staff being allowed to dress more casually. I hate to be that person, but it does make me trust them less. When the medical assistant in a giant sweater took my blood pressure, she didn't read the results to me. Every doctor's appointment I've ever had the MA will read it out loud. I went in because I had an ear ache that I thought was from ear wax. They took a look and said everything looked fine and suggested I take allergy medicine for it (this was after I told them I don't have any allergies). Didn't feel that thorough of an exam and it's clearly short staffed because the MA was also the front desk so she was rushing around. My roommate has tried to schedule appointments for drug tests her job requested, but this place usually let her down and she had to scramble to go elsewhere. Parking is also a pain here. We tried calling this location to make sure they had an X-ray machine, but no one answered the phone. This took me to an unmarked door that opens to a flight of stairs. Went upstairs to find a VERY rinky-dink-looking operation. I asked the receptionist how I was supposed to get my elderly father with broken ribs up the stairs, and that's how I learned they don't have an X-ray machine. Sure would have been great if they'd answered the phone so I could have learned that, huh? Do not come here. The receptionist is rude and unprofessional. Absolutely zero customer service or patient care. I had an appt at 915am so I checked in at 907am. I didn't get called into the room until 950am and didn't get seen by a healthcare professional until 10am. What's the point of making an appointment if I have to wait an hour anyway? As a working professional with my young child who I had to take to preschool right after my visit, this unexpected long wait time was just extra frustrating. I wanted to just ask for a refund and leave but at that point I was already 45 minutes invested. Seriously don't waste your time unless you have a lot of it to spare and expect to wait. The front desk lied to me said anthem insurance is within network. Charged me 30 copay After two month they said they will take another $161 from my credit card directly. I wonder why did they keep my credit card on file without me knowing it? Also why is the front desk lying? I feel this is a scam, they don't take major insurance in CA and want to to pay cash price but they won't let you know. Also see so many similar post, so they are repeating this to lots of patients. However, Carbon Health turned away my 5yo daughter with pneumonia symptoms because they made an error looking up my insurance and stated we were OON (we are not) and proceeded to tell me we needed to pay for the urgent care visit out of pocket. $150. We have BCBS of Massachusetts PPO Obviously, we were not going to pay that when our copay was $35. So now my daughter and husband have to sit for hours on end at another urgent care to be seen, instead of the "convenient care" that carbon health advertises. Their front desk staff are clearly incompetent. Turning away sick people when they cannot even check insurance is a huge problem and unacceptable. The person who cancelled our appointment was Esther. Maybe consider finding someone who knows what they are doing. I will never return. read more

I saw the reviews from this place and yes they are pretty much on point. I'd like to mention that the doctor who saw me was amazing his name is Kevin. The person who helped me with my bloodwork amazing as well. I got there, first time and new to my insurance and the front desk person was so unhelpful. Health care is already rough if the people you have working for you don't make it easier it's such a disappointment. She did not seem to want answer my questions, she did, but it was almost like I was asking her to do extra. She basically was there to tell people to go upstairs and check you in. When I used the app to continue to ask for help the chat was so not helpful. They used words that complete implied they were not sure. The office is clean. You can make an appointment. You can be seen. I wouldn't expect more. If you going in a littler nervous or maybe concerned this place is not the place to make you feel welcome. Very transactional. read more

Avoid this clinic! Not only is the Sunday receptionist rude and uncaring to someone who was not feeling well but she turned me away even though I said I would pay cash for my visit! She was so rude and I felt discriminated against. I have never felt like this at any clinic. First time they were closed on a random Wednesday second time I showed up at 12:30 and they said they don't do drug screens after noon even though the website says 1 Pm. Absolutely do not recommend this place. I wish I had read the reviews before coming here. I injured my back and was in a significant amount of pain. I didn't want to wait for hours and this place had appointments open so I decided to take a chance. It's in a weird store front looking place where you check in on the ground floor and then take an elevator upstairs to see a provider. At least one staff member wasn't wearing a mask, which is super off putting considering we're in a COVID wave right now. My provider spent less than 2 minutes with me and gave me the most cursory physical exam. He asked what happened and I told him, repeated it and then he asked "You didn't fall?" Did I say I fell?? He didn't ask follow up questions about where I was feeling pain or when the pain was worse. Nothing. I told him that taking Ibuprofen is tough for me because I have IBS. He then started to argue with me about that, insisting that Ibuprofen wouldn't affect IBS. I told him that my GI doctor had specifically told me to avoid it. He then told me to do some sort of "low back stretch" that actually sounded like it was going to compress the area that hurts. Basically all I got out of this was some muscle relaxers and a vague assurance that there's no real damage to my back. I should have just gone to the Optum urgent care and waited. read more

It seemed like he was interested in getting to the bottom of my diagnosis and also was able to rule out ear crystal potentials through his exams. It seems as if we should've come to the reviews before choosing Carbon health to do anything. My wife visited Carbon in April, there was no mention of being out of network, that our insurance at the time wasn't going to be taken. Nothing. We paid our copay of $25, she was seen. No big deal. A month later, our son needed treatment. We came back to Carbon. AGAIN, no mention of out of network, no mention of not accepting our insurance. We paid our copay of $25 and we were seen. In August, we were charged $418. Out of the blue, no notice, literally just taken from our account. We inquired. They said it was the insurance's fault which was Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois at the time. They said we'd be refunded and they would contact BCBS for payment. THE REFUND A MONTH LATER. October 13th: Again, $418 deducted from our account. No notice! My wife spends two hours on hold before speaking to anyone in billing. Again they say it was an issue with the insurance. So we call BCBS. They tell us in detail that it was Carbon who filed the claim incorrectly, TWICE. They also tell us that we were covered and this should've been something that was covered. Call back Carbon, on hold again, this time for THREE & A HALF HOURS. Several calls disconnected. They said they'd resubmit the claim. November 10th: BCBS informs us that one of the two claims is good to go, but the second claim is still filed incorrectly!!!!!!! WTF. Call up billing again! Nothing. Even our BCBS rep is on hold on her end in tandem with us! NO FUCKING RESPONSE. Start calling the office, STILL NO ONE ANSWERING. Finally get through and guess what number they give us? BILLING. I'm pretty sure this is a predatory business and that billing number is to a pay phone out in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. Please, don't go here. This business has all the flashy shit like a nice app, and clean minimal office in a beautiful downtown Pasadena. DON'T FALL FOR IT. Vultures are what these people are. As if healthcare isn't already enough of a goddamn headache in this country. Here comes Carbon! Yay! Come to steal and pillage, especially in economic times such as these. Partially wished I never came here. The staff are super nice. Very clean facility. Although parking sucks. Visited back in February which is when I brought my dad in for a COVID swab and they did X-rays, etc. We didn't receive a bill of any sort until 6 MONTHS LATER! I did check my app constantly for the first 2 months for any potential bill, after not seeing anything, I assumed insurance covered everything and that was it. Fast forward 6 months later, I receive a call. I didn't pick up initially given the area code was not one I was familiar with (there's a lot of spam callers nowadays) AND she didn't leave a voicemail. Then Tina over here texts me and all of a sudden is YELLING for no reason. She had an attitude over the phone too when she did call back. Their app is great and makes it easy to book an appointment, even on short notice. Their staff is friendly and professional. Appointments have in my experience always run on time and moved efficiently. The office is busy, so the doctors or staff don't dawdle or take too much time to chat (which I don't mind but some might), but that is a worthy trade off to me for quick appointments that start on time. They are supposedly open on Sundays for urgent care and walk-in appointments, but upon showing up the door was closed and the inside was dark. No front desk staff. No one picked up the phone. I'm updating my review after seeing Dr. Vikas Jayadeva. I made an appointment because I was noticing that my resting heart rate had been gradually increasing over the past few months. I am an athlete, so my resting heart rate is usually in the high 40's but after a few months, I noticed that it is now in the high 60's. When I met with Dr. Vik, he explained that because my heart rate was well below average, I shouldn't be bothered with it. The problem with that is that it's 20 BPM above my normal rate and that is a concern to me. He proceeded to tell me that consumers have too much access to data (my Apple iWatch), and that because of that it makes his job difficult. He also proceeded to tell me that since I was well within the "normal" range, I shouldn't worry. He said to come back to him when my resting heart rate was above 80 BPM. He also told me I should only see a cardiologist if I started having heart palpitations. That was it. He didn't ask to order any labs. He didn't ask for anything because my vitals were "normal". I left this appointment feeling really uneasy. I ended up making an appointment with a cardiologist who ran a bunch of labs and tests to ease my concern. Turns out I have hyperthyroidism due to Grave's disease. Had I not caught this through my doubt and listened to Dr. Vik, things could be way worse. Just be cautious of the doctor's here I guess.
