I wanted to bring hami melon (cousin to the cantelope) to a work lunch. I knew Super King would have it, but I don't live near one. So I thought of Cardenas Markets in Hesperia. I've been here a few times, but not too often. I was here in the late evening. Parking lot was not well lit at all... not sure why. Inside was very bright and clean. I walked straight to the produce section. It was organized. I didn't see the hami melon. Bummer! However, I saw watermelon on sale... 3 lbs for 99 cents. I thought it would be a nice substitute to the hami melon. I'm not the greatest watermelon picker, but I did well. I went to self check-out. A young gentleman came over to assist me. Thank you young man! Watermelon cost me a little over $5 which wasn't too bad. For the very first time, I struggled to cut a watermelon. Something was different. It was difficult to cut through the rind. I didn't know what to think of it. I later realized that the watermelon may not be ripe yet. Anyway, I did my best to cut all of it. I couldn't bring unripe watermelon that's not sweet to work so I kept it in the frig in hopes it would ripe on its own eventually and it did. Wahoo! It turned out to be a very sweet watermelon. I come here for the salsa. I will literally come here only to get salsa and guacamole because it's delicious. My issue is that I don't like coming here if I can help it. There's always trash in the parking lot and the smell is nauseating. It's like frosting mixed with rotting milk. Their self check out systems are also a pain, it wants you to put stuff in the bag but then yells at you to take it out and the cycle doesn't end lol. I told the worker at the register that if they are there then roaches are near the food and the worker did not deny it! Hi, unfortunately myself and our church had some issues and continued issues with this particular business. I work with and run a couple local food pantries to help the under privileged, and homeless. The perishes and ward spend about $20,000 monthly ($5,000 weekly) on varies food and condonments. Unfortunately the issue with prices being misleading and unresponsive costumer service to any irregularity continued to go unheard, and by unheard I mean zero effort. Recently 2 of our members recorded an interaction with staff employees regarding an irregularity with some produce. We understand times are tough, but the pricing made absolutely zero sense, when presented it was disregarded and ignored with attitude. Unfortunate. $20,000 is a substantial amount of money, we reached out to Corporate and naturally ignored and hung up on. We've currently informed all other wards and communities to cease purchase at this business enetitity. Currently we are speaking to a press reporter about documenting and investigating said variances in prices and costumer service. We spoke to the manager of the store, but only to be met with idle bot loophole replies and the I'm sorry, I'm sorry repeating. However this hasn't been the first reported incident infact this is the 3rd. We know the truth they wont do nothing, like everything else. Costumers beware not a good reputable company. I enjoyed coming to this store. Its clean, organized and well sorted. I went to the Kitchen and was greeted by a nice lady by the name of Rosa. Rosa took her time to answer a couple of questions. I went to the meat dept and was greeted by Bertha who was also very patient with me. I am not familiar with the store so I was lost and couldn't find was I was looking for and Nayely asked if I needed help and walked me to the item that I was looking for. Great store and great team. Went to Cardenas for a few things, tho especially to see if they had some hot off the grill jalapeno poppers. They did!!!! Yay! However, waiting to be helped was another story. No one in line, three people working. One seemed to be in training. However, not a single one bothered to help, let alone acknowledge me. A darn shame. I was looking forward to an afternoon snack following my physical therapy. I just walked away thinking just maybe they'd right their wrong. Nope. It was as if no one wanted to help and/or they were waiting for the other person to help. Unbelievable. I simply wanted four jalapeno poppers in a container to take home. Cardenas doesn't always have the poppers, so I was stoked they did. Clearly I was asking too much. This was around 1:15pm today. I have family members who will not visit Cardenas because it's located in a "bad" area of Hesperia. And, I mean, yeah: I did see a few chollos with face tattoos pushing carts. But then I also saw some abuelitas squeezing limes and (gasp) lots of regular, boring people just going about their day. It's a mixed bag here. Speaking of bags: I really just came here to buy a bag of pan dulce. They have a large selection of pan dulce, so I chose a few pink, white and brown conchas. I also got a pan dulce that looks like a slice of watermelon for my kids. And while I was here, I got some tortillas and guacamole, too. They have good flour tortillas and guacamole. The beer section isn't huge, but they have a few local options. read more

Hello I needed to write a second review I went back to the Hesperia Cardenas cause i had a bad experience at the Victorville Cardenas Location. Produce guy name Hugo help me pick a good watermelon he was so helpfull and kind. I saw the big guy at the meat dept. He look like he was in a rush to get stuff done. I stop him to ask him a question about the meat. This time i did ask for his name he said( Honey you could call me what ever you want) he made me smile I was having a bad day. The store has really gone down hill and you can tell by the amount of customers that go now. It was a busy store but high prices on meat and no selection let you know exactly why. This was one of the best stores in the High Desert and being only 1 of 2 Latino Markets it was great however with know 4 up here if the quality remains the same I'll drive further for better quality. My son took a bite from the bread and I did not want to report this until he started feeling sick. I will definitely not be returning to this market place. They have good prices on avacados. Yes, they have small avacados, but most of the time I can not eat a larger sized one, and I'll cut it open, eat half, and the rest goes to waste. So, I really like having the small avacados, and today they were 3 for a buck. Their russet potatoes are good, and good prices on limes. BUYER BEWARE. When you buy any kind of food that's not shelved, you MUST check the expiration date. This particular Cardenas has a tendency to sell rotten, or expired food. I haven't gotten sick because I make sure to check it, but I bought a pound of ceviche once that was absolutely disgusting. The employees are always rude here as well. Especially the kitchen employees who serve the hot food. A guy behind the counter there once tried to fight my husband because he felt he was too busy to attend us! Cardenas can't touch Vallerta when it comes to price, selection, quality or service! It's very similar, nice lil restaurant, fresh juices, bakery, butcher and so on, but everything is a bit smaller, a bit more pricey and just not as fresh or great looking. They do have good sales specials, but other then that it's not worth going out of my way for to ship at. The meats all looked pretty gray, fruit a bit mushy, I love places like this but we wound up having to stop at another grocery store just to get the rest of the stuff we needed. read more

My husband and I went to the bakery department in our local Cardenas market. We were on our way to a BBQ and decided we wanted to take a gelatina for dessert. Went to the counter and asked the lady for the tres leches gelatina that was in the enclosed display case with the cakes. Reluctantly she packed it up and we all walked towards the cash register. Whatever, we weren't there to make friends. We were just there to get our dessert. We pay $10.99 for it and start heading out the door. That's when my husband noticed there was mold on it. We walk back and show it to her. She blames it on the change of temperature from the refrigerator to the display case. Ooookkkaaayyy. There isn't anymore tres leches gelatins, but she points to the display case that is in front and says those are fresher. We chose a more expensive one that had a sticker that said it was packed that same day and wouldn't expire until 7 days later. We take it back to her, pay the difference and drive to the BBQ. We uncover the gelatina, just to discover that this one had even more mold! Disgusted and embarrassed, we take it back to Cardenas and request a refund. The blonde, curly hair lady manager comes out with the expression of why in the world are you bothering me. Gives us our money back with only having said maybe 3 words. Keep in mind, none of which was an apology. Never asked for the receipt that I had in hand. I guess this is such a common occurrence that receipts aren't necessary. I hardly ever shop here and now this has confirmed why. There fruit, vegetables and meat don't look fresh and are over priced in comparison to near by Latino markets. I only shop here for their yellow corn tortillas. These I do love and only buy them when I see they are being freshly packed in front of me, nice and warm. I've heard rumors from other market employees that Cardenas changes dates on several of their food items. I didn't want to believe it. Although come to think of it. I have noticed on their sour cream containers sometimes they have smeared dates and then are re-stamped. I will now start paying attention to these rumors. read more

I come here all the time with my husband. But, last Saturday when I came with husband, my sister, my nephew , and my niece we ordered a plate for my nephew and niece. We asked for huevos revueltos and when we got our order our eggs were estrellados. I took the plate back and told the tall young lady with black hair that my order was wrong. I just left that food counter and got no help the lady behind the counter proceeded to help her co worker before me even though I had been waiting for about 5 minutes before she walked up. Bad market store. Customer service is awful, customers must wait for cashiers that are supposedly open. None of the employees are polite to say to customer good morning. Worst than anything while I was on the store waiting for bread, one of the guys dropped some bread and pick it up, but instead of throwing it to the trash he saved it to later put it back on the shelves. Pretty much a basic Mexican market, They have a good bakery with good tasting sweets. Not much variety when it comes to purchasing something you want to cook, lot's of microwavable type of food (Burritos, Pizza rolls, etc..) Unless you buy from the deli where they usually have Beef, Chicken, etc.. They do however have good tasting Tortas & Tacos in the eating area at the other end of the entrance. read more
