Make sure you get perfect clarity up front, and be aware that they are not very experienced in B2B. I own a business to business service company that works locally here in Atlanta. We had chosen Cardinal to redesign our website thinking that having a company that also did SEO would be a real help when they were doing our website redesign. Right at the beginning, we gave them a very detailed full color layout of what we wanted, and an 8 week deadline for our small website, and they agreed to both. We also contracted for a logo redesign, and were supposed to receive a logo package of various file types to go with that. We spent over an hour at the initial meeting explaining who our target audience is, who in the company actually does the shopping for our services (generally older HR or training department employees, or executive secretaries), and what we wanted in the redesign. The logo ideas they presented did not seem to mesh with our type of work at all. Instead, they looked like something that would appeal to teen or 20-something girls. We expressed this concern, and they did not change or improve the logo options significantly. Finally, I created a new logo myself, and asked them to use it. Cardinal offered to make the logo package for that logo so we had professionally done vector images. Then came the redesign. Cardinal came to use with a layout that was completely different from what we had requested, and very unappealing. We gave them a lot of feedback at every stage, trying to get the layout back in line with what we wanted. Two days before the mutually -agreed launch date, Cardinal told us they needed at least 3 more weeks to finish the site IF we didn't make any changes. When we told them we wanted to use our original design that we had been trying to get them to create all along, they told us that would cost extra and take even more time. At this point we pulled the plug on the project. After trying to negotiate with them for a year, we have yet to come to an agreement. We feel that we have made reasonable reconciliation offers, but Cardinal is not willing to agree to our terms. The best offer Cardinal made was to give us back about 1/3 of our original deposit if we posted 5-star reviews for them first. I do not feel honest doing that. read more
