We went to this restaurant on Easter Sunday. They were offering a buffet. Yes, there were a lot of customers. But, mostly nothing on the buffet, they kept running out of food. This is great diner! Bigger than what you'd expect in a town this size. They have a very large menu with great options for breakfast and lunch. I had the buffet, though, and it was scrumptious! You can find options here to fit any diet. Our waitress was very nice and we had a pleasant experience overall. Definitely check it out! Note to the owner: I'd recommend getting your sign repainted. The Cardinal inn is a good little hole in the wall. The service was fantastic. Prompt but not in the way. Coffee was what you'd expect. By far their best dish is the grilled cinnamon roll. It's a sliced cinnamon roll grilled on a flat top. Simple but delicious. The breakfast fare was pretty standard otherwise. I had the meat omelette. Plenty of meat with American cheese. Has browns were a good add but needed a little salt for my taste which I easily added. If you're in town, give it a shot. read more

Delicious mom and pop restaurant. Flies inside, but to be expected in a country place. I had the western omelette, toast, and hash browns. Great taste and service. ATM inside as this is a cash only kinda place. The address is actually 1299 W Washington St, Pittsfield, IL, just across from American Legion. Rating was good because we were hungry. Good food. Lunch buffet $8.95. Friday includes fried Walleye (Walleye was excellent). Two fried eggs, hash browns (large serving), Saugage links (3) seemed a little undercooked ,toast. Excellent! Saugage gravy available for hash browns. Breakfast was excellent. Coffee was fine but not full flavored. Affordable prices. read more

Ugh. Stopped at 10 am on a Sunday morning. No one to greet us. Do we just pick a table or wait? We finally sat, got ourselves buffet., and then someone got us drinks. They were out of several things on the Buffett. More people came in and we heard staff telling them they could make more eggs, but not sausage, potatoes, or French toast sticks. It was 10:15 on a Sunday and people were clearly walking in from church! By 10:25, still nothing filled on the buffet, and no second cup of coffee offered we left. And it cost $9.95 each! On our way to Lake of The Ozarks we stopped by this place. I had the eggs an pork chop and the hubby had the chicken fried steak and eggs. It was very delicious but we had no idea of the treat we had on our way back when we stopped in! Our stomachs just so happened to start grumbling when we were about to pass by Cardinal Inn on US-54. They had an afternoon buffet going on. I had the freshest and crispiest fried catfish! I was absolutely divine. Everything and I mean everything is made from scratch; mashed potatoes, ice cream, red velvet cupcakes. They even had liver and onions on the buffet! It's not a fancy place but what is doesn't have in decor it makes up in high quality, down-home cooking. If you are ever passing by this fine establishment, do your stomach a favor and stop by. The dirty bird. That is what its called by most locals. I don't think its dirty. Its just a place where a lot of Truckers go and eat in the mornings. I personally love their toast. Its good. There are a lot of old men that go here and have their early morning coffee before the day begins so if this isn't your scene...I don't suggest going. read more

It's hard to properly describe and rate this place. It's a local Mom and Pop restaurant that has been a staple of this town for decades, changing owners a couple times. The current owners have been around a while and I would say overall the food is pretty good. The grilled rolls are their best item, I can eat them as a dessert no matter how much I already ate. Their breakfast buffet is small but delicious and their menu is your typical country cooking. The servers are friendly and more than happy to make small talk, though they're a little slow occasionally. The main thing that keeps me from giving four stars is because the food quality is so inconsistent. Typically the food is good, but occasionally it's awesome, making me want to come back soon. However, some days it's just bad. I don't know if it's new cooks or a bad cook, but every once in a while the food is just unsatisfying. I continue to come here when I'm in town for the friendly service and to support a local business, not because it's amazing food, though 9 times out of 10 the food is pretty great. Worth coming to if you're on your way through town, just cross your fingers you don't get one of the odd days where the food is mediocre. read more
