My 67 year old Father bought a plant from this place last Tuesday - the plant died not even a week later. My Dad went back to the place to exchange it and the owner said no. He not only said No - but he was very adamant and rude. My Dad explained how he also works in business and the right thing to do is to do the exchange - make the customer happy. Clearly this plant was sick. My Dad is an honest man who would never pull a fast one. Finally after a lot of back and forth and rude comments from the owner the owner brings out a new plant and thrusts it into my Dads chest. He doesn't give it to him- he shoves the plant into him. My new favorite nursery. I wanted to buy some trees to cover my deck area so I reached out to them. The lady was extremely helpful even asked me to email her the photo and she'll come up with something. She then told me she had options and I drove there and fell in love. This place is great and has some of the best variety of plants and knowledgeable employees out there, everything is very well kept up with and tidy. If you are looking to work here however, be mindful of the main woman in charge; she is the single most disrespectful human I've ever faced in or out of a workplace. Have been getting mulch delivered from them for years and have gone there for perennials and garden supplies as well. This year I picked out several foundation plants that Joe delivered with the mulch and helped me slide them into place. I've been a regular customer of Cardinal for over 25 years, and they are always my first stop on the springtime Saturdays dedicated to resurrecting our gardens. Service is always extremely knowledgeable and has steered me to less expensive and better options frequently. Their stock for the season arrives gradually, but is always top quality at reasonable prices. Sure, the local supermarkets and big box retailers may cost a bit less, but the end result (after the work is done) usually favors Cardinal. Once fully stocked, the selection at Cardinal is very good. Things like peat moss and fertilizers are reasonably priced, and aren't loaded with weed seeds and debris. Very nice people running a well-established local business. Be careful of which driveway you use and where you park. There are a lot of cats, and an occasional small child-- slow down! read more

A good gardening friend shared Cardinal with me when I first moved nearby. It's a special place where I've bought perennials, annuals, great top soil, and even a bird bath! The folks are very knowledgeable and nice. The cats lounging about are sweet. It's tucked in off the road, a real botanical oasis. Go often as inventory seems to change regularly. We had a wonderful experience with Cardinal, and will continue coming back to them for plantings. We had scouted out some skip laurels at a couple other nurseries but were put off by the price. Not only were Cardinal's laurels about 30% cheaper, the plants were also in considerably better shape than at other nurseries where we had looked. Plus, they delivered them the next morning for a nominal fee and gave detailed instructions on how to plant and care for them. Cardinal will be our go-to from now on. read more

[I posted the same thing at Google Maps] Calling around I found they were the only place that had Milk Spores (organic insecticide). They are nestled in a very residential area of Springfield. When I got there I was surprised to see such a great inventory of stuff you would find in a country garden store. For example, they had at a minimum 5 different ways to label your plants! They were very at tentative and insightful. If you did not find what you needed at Lowes or Home Depot or just unsatisfied, they probably have it here and probably other things you never knew about but wish you did! By the way, their prices were actually very competitive to both the big box stores and Amazon. read more

I don't know where to begin. The team at Cardinal is AMAZING!! They have done so much work for us from laying mulch, laying a new bluestone patio (to match a small existing patio), plantings in beds, cutting back shrubs and bushes, as well as, installing new bricks to build up and protect our (outside) basement windows. EVERYTHING they touch - every job they do, is done beautifully, neatly and the finish work is immaculate. We could not be happier. Oh, just one more thing...the garden center itself is quaint, clean and adorable but most importantly, everyone who works there is knowledgeable and helpful. All of the plants I have purchased have done well and you can't help but smile as you walk around the grounds of the Garden Center - it is like going back in time. I have been coming to this nursery for 45 years . I come in for small items- onion sets or large projects such as landscaping , taking away old plants and putting in a new planter area. They are knowledgeable and trustworthy- they did some of the landscaping while we were on vacation.
