A&J did a fantastic job in the front yard of our home. We ripped out all of the overgrown existing landscaping and replaced with all new bushes and plants. We left the design up to Joanne with some input on color and it was exactly what we wanted. The team was efficient and both Jonathan and Joanne were at the site throughout the day. Some of the team had been working for them for almost 20 years which was evident. Everything was measured carefully and meticulously cleaned afterwards. They responded right away and provided a detailed step-by-step plan during a property walkthrough that made me feel confident about choosing them. Throughout the project, Jonathan immediately verified any deviations from the original plan and provided updates at the end of each day. After every hard rain, my basement suffered from mustiness (gross!) and damp walls. To address this, A&J laid new drainage that was properly graded away from the house. My basement's been dry ever since. My backyard also cried for major help. Trees, bushes, ivy, and weeds several feet thick along my property lines were an overgrown mess. It was Scary Town as a play area for my children. A&J provided clear plans that were the best bang for the buck and tailored to my request of low-maintenance trees and shrubbery that would provide some privacy in a few years. This is the second time we have had A&J plant some privacy bushes on our property. Both times I was impressed with the great customer service and how quick they got the project done. They go above and beyond when they are here. Both times theyve helped and advised on other items on our property ( I.e., trimming some trees, advising on some drainage problems, pulling some posion ivy they saw). We have had A&J Landscape Design for 3 years now. Over this period they meticulously took care of every landscaping detail. They deploy a team of people who cut, trim, clear dead branches, blow away leaves, leaving the yard looking "brand new". i also hired them to plant 6 green giants and the trees have flourished in the 3 years. They are a full service outfit and will take care of weeding, fertilizing, overseeing, and aeration as well. They worked us to renovate our backyard where we leveled half the yard, installed a retaining wall/steps and planted a perennial garden across the yard. They made many suggestions including installing a stone retaining wall and installing steps. They connected us with a contractor to install the wall, which was not their area of expertise, and helped design and plan the install to ensure everything was cohesive when completed. I've used A&J as a new homeowner for their lawn maintenance from late spring through to the final fall cleanups. I'm transitioning this year to maintaining my lawn on my own, but felt that the experience was positive enough that it warranted a review. Communication - Joanne was fantastic from the very first communication. She was warm, clear, and responsive in her emails and made sure all the important details were not lost. As a new homeowner there were certainly items that were unfamiliar to me, but she was always courteous and informational in advising that their maintenance contracts were full service on a yearly basis, with a focus on the overall health and look of the grounds. Though all this might read like it was simply words to justify the pricing and use of full service requirements (aerations, fungus control, etc), but after a year of the overall experience, I know that they were genuine. Also, having everything in email (read: writing) made it easy to reference back to look up simple things that I had forgotten about the work agreed upon. Work - Throughout the year, I was impressed time and again in how efficient their operations and scheduling were. There were dedicated teams that showed for their purpose (separate teams for the chemicals, etc) and were quick to get the job done. Any deviations on expected schedules due to weather, etc were promptly communicated by Joanne. Best of all however, was just how professional and careful the team on the ground were. I have security cameras across the property and whether it was the weekly lawn maintenance, to the fall cleanups, they showed care in doing their jobs. I have a driveway that may be 2.5 cars wide and yet to witness the care they showed as they maneuvered and used their equipment around the cars was refreshing and impressive. They even were fairly meticulous in cleaning the leaves that had fallen on the car itself. It was also a pleasant surprise to cross paths with the lead on the chemical team that was clearly very involved in his craft and explained all the different treatments and their purposes. Overall, I'm glad I used A&J for the work they performed during the year. If the circumstances allow, I wouldn't hesitate to use them again for lawn maintenance and perhaps also for landscape work. There are so many different connotations that the words "small business" and "family owned and operated" can have, but A&J certainly exemplify them to have earned a high level of trust for me. read more
