I was chatting to the owner and they make a trip up to London daily to get their stock and everything is always very fresh. The prices are comparable with the supermarket, but you may end up paying a little more if you use the greengrocer. Still, there is always a better quality of product here and you know it hasn't been sitting around in a supermarktet cold room for a couple of weeks before going onto the shop floor. They also sell a number of natural drinks like ginger beer and dandelion and burdock (one of my faves). I imagine that a number of the local restaurants would be using this place for their fruit and veg and this really can't be a bad thing. Rather than stop off at a newsagent for a chocolate bar, you wouldn't go wrong to pick up something from here instead.

Quality Fruits also supports the local community - for example they provided bananas, grapes, blueberries and greengages for a Zumbathon - this was a fun event organised by Esther Featherstone of Zumba Lindfield http://www.facebook.com/lindfield.zumba the aim being to break the world record for the longest aerobic session - Esther did 36.5 hours and it will be shortly confirmed by the Guinness World record team. Owned by two of the most helpful and friendly grocers in London- Adrian and Jason- the shop sells high quality fresh fruit and vegetables on a seasonal basis. Everything is beautifully arranged- the presentation is immaculate, especially at Halloween and Christmas. My friends who live locally, will now not shop anywhere else. They even arrange weekly vegetable and fruit boxes through them. Last Summer I asked them to put together a small fruit platter for me- I only had 20 pounds- and they delivered the most enourmous, extravagant platter that few 20 people. I was so impressed- they put in beautiful apples, strawberries, pears, mango and melon- a lot of the money. They also stock an amazing selection of pickles, preserves and Chegworth Valley apple juices.

The food is all overpriced, mainly because the produce is organic or 'artisan', and many of the suppliers are also based at Borough Market. But it was en route to Sloane Square and we fancied spoiling ourselves! The market is small enough to wander around in a few minutes and get everything you desire, but if you're watching the pennies be warned that the stall with the cheaper lettuce may sell the most expensive carrots - so shop around! Also it might be better to get there early. We arrived at 12ish and were limited in choice at the sausage stall and the tomato stall had sold out of tomatoes, tomato juice and passata! We got: some fab pork sausages (£3.99 for six), some delicious spinach and feta and cheddar and leek mini quiches (3 for £5); a steak and ale and Thai curry pie (£3.75 ea i think); a tasty apple and blackberry smoothie (£4 a litre) and lots of fresh veg and eggs. Next time i'm feeling plush i'm going back for the smoothies, quiches and pies! And right now i'm going to put that pie in the oven...

What I love about this market is it has everything I need, but isn't too big, crowded, and overwhelming. Coming from California, I was overjoyed to find high quality fresh kale at such great prices. In addition to great produce, there are a few fish and meat vendors (look for the man with the sundried-tomato turkey burgers..they are great!), bakeries, pie minister, organic food stands, and dairy farmers. A great place for getting great value with a solid selection, without fending against London crowds.

Farmers markets have become so ubiquitous in London that it is easy to forget that just a few years…read moreago, we all had to search a lot harder for our organic, locally sourced fruit and veg. Not us in Esher, we have been privileged to have Garsons Farm on our doorstep for... well, the farm has been running since the 1900's. Garsons became what it is known as today around 20 years ago. It has expanded in the last few years, but what it is primarily known as is a place to buy free range, organic, and where possible, locally sourced, fresh produce. Everything that you buy here is delicious. The fruit and veg are plentiful, and comes in both fresh and frozen quantities. There is a large deli, an extremely well stocked cheese counter (which won best cheese shop of the year 2008), a wide range of pre cooked and frozen meals, and plenty of freshly baked cakes and pies. Garsons also covers the American contingent as well. There is a large community of American families living nearby, and Garsons caters for them by supplying treats like Betty Crocker, Aunt Jemima, Goober Grape peanut butter, Lucky Charm Cereals and of course, lots of boxes of macaroni cheese. I know that these things are not what comes under the umbrella of organic goods, but everyones got to have some treats sometimes!

I recently 'found' Freshers Village Fruiterers, which is a bit silly as I live by there and pass it…read morealmost daily. But I went in recently and was amazed by what I saw. They have a wonderful selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, some of my favourites include watermelon (a slice for 75p), huge ripe avocados, sprouts, melon grapes. This is the first place where I found salad sprouts - a common staple in the States - and they have a selection including broccoli, lentils and chickpea sprouts. They also have cool things like a selection of freshly squeezed apple juice, and quail eggs. Everything I have bought there has been in perfect condition, with a sell-by date well in advance of anything I find in the supermarkets. Everything is also hugely cheaper than at Sainsburys or Tescos, even half price in many cases. In this day and age, its also refreshing to have the opportunity to pick and choose, and only buy what you need - hard to find as everything is prepackaged now. I don't have a single bad thing to say about the place and I encourage everyone who lives in the area to check it out.
