It's an independent greengrocers and the advantage is that they have much tighter control over the supply and quality of their produce. Greengages? Check - they were super sweet. Seedless watermelon? The lady was able to pick me out a super sweet one. Fresh free range eggs? Yup and I did do a comparison 'float/sink' test with some eggs I got from the supermarket. These were fresher. Apparently, local chefs Nigel Slater and Anna Colquhoun are among their regular customers, although I have never seen them. However, if they do come here to shop, it will probably primarily because they want to support their local greengrocers (as I do) but also because the change of ownership has resulted in an upturn in quality. It is still sometimes a bit of a mixed bag but in the main the vegetables and fruit which are in good condition. The range is also excellent. In addition to the usual fruit and vegetables, plants and cut flowers are also available to purchase and at Christmas, this is a source of Xmas trees and wreaths. However, I have not strayed away from the fruit/vegetables as yet.

Compared to the supermarkets it is so much cheaper. The price of cherry tomatoes and grapes are about a third or 50% less here than in Sainsburys down the road. Plus the quality of the produce is fantastic: those cherry tomatoes have never looked or tasted so good. There is the occasionally something bad, but this is a minor thing, and preferable generally to the tasteless stuff you get from the supermarkets. *except bean sprouts.
