Great for allergic reactions, awful for X-rays! Went in on Saturday for an X-ray and I was told…read morethat I would have an answer by Saturday evening or sometime Sunday because they had to send it off. I called on Sunday for the results and I was told that the place they send X-rays to was closed on Sundays, that they would know something by Monday. On Monday when I called they said they hadn't sent it over to the place to have it read, but would and they would know something by the end of the day. I called back at the end of the day and they still didn't have the results. They did give me the number to the place they send the X-rays to so I called them and left a message. The man quickly called me back and said he didn't have my X-rays, but he did list off all the last names of the ones sent over by Xpress and other urgent cares who use their services. He asked me if I could take a photo of my X-rays and text them to him while we were on the phone and he'd read them. Since I don't have access to those X-rays I was unable to! Due to the run around by this place I had no choice but to go to another urgent care, Beaumont Urgent Care, for X-rays!! Beaumont was able to do my x-rays, give me the results and have me out of there within forty minutes!!

She was knowledgeable about the procedures and go-around of the phone and appointment system and very attentive to her computer and charts. But overall she seemed uninterested in our appointment. We definitely waited 70 minutes to see her. When I asked about the time, the nurse said, "that is very usual for her, unfortunately". But the Dr. only spent 7 minutes with us before leaving the room. We didn't even know how to leave the office! It was so bizarre to be left. Red flags: the phones are confusing, the doctor wait is more than an hour, the nurses said they're understaffed, and the Dr. was in and out in less than ten minutes. I suppose some people like her for her calm demeanor. But I preferred the attentiveness, care, ease of contacting, and getting a hold of Serenity Pediatrics than I did at Dr. Leatherwood's office.

The doctor who did our tour let us know that the practice manager was very good about having sick apts open every day as well as new born apts. The only thing missing was a separate waiting area for sick kids. The doctor who did our tour let us know that when a sick child does comes in they are taken to an exam room quickly to reduce exposure to the healthy kids in the waiting room. We feel lucky to have such a nice practice within 15 mins of our home!

We received an email saying that the flu vaccines are in, and to make an appointment right away. I called, stated my name, and the receptionist said "You have Meridian Insurance? We do not have any flu vaccines in right now, we will email you when we get some in." I was confused and said "Oh, I just received an email saying to make an appointment?" Receptionist #1 said "Oh... hold on." and gives me to receptionist #2 who tells me "Hi, I am sorry about the email. We do not have any flu shots available for medicaid patients, and we do not know when we will have any in. The flu shots are only available for our other patients." WOW I get it, businesses have to make money. That isn't my issue. My issue is that they have different treatment plans - UNKNOWN to their patients - based on your insurance. When they said they didn't have any, I didn't question it at all, like many of their trusting parents, I am sure. They could have simply said they were low on flu shots and recommended going to a Rite-Aid so that you were following the same treatment they were recommending for their other patients - BABIES - during a PANDEMIC. Flu shots aren't hard to come by, they really don't need to deceive people because they want to prioritize people with insurance. The receptionists are following the direction of the doctors and owners of the practice. It is a shame that this is the country that we live in, and it makes me so sad that not everyone child is given the same advice and access to care. And don't accept medicaid patients if you are secretly going to have different treatment plans to maximize a buck. These are babies and children here. So sad.

Unfortunately, the current health care crisis has sent the health care system in a tizzy. It took several hours of driving around and calling local clinics to find one that would take a walk-in patient. I was lucky to find Express Med. Upon arrival, I saw a line of folks in front of the building waiting to be checked-in for testing. To my surprise, the line shortened quickly. I realized why once inside. The staff was operating like a well-oiled machine. Everyone was working efficiently while taking the time to show kindness and care to the patients. I checked in and was instructed to wait in my vehicle for a call. A few hours later, I was called in. The physician assistants were thorough and helpful. Although they were slammed with patients, everyone I encountered was cool, calm and full of positivity. It was a great experience. The clinic sits in a strip mall with plenty of parking. I found the decor so cool! There were album covers, music memorabilia and references all over the walls. There is an artificial fireplace and Motown hits being played on a television. Very soothing environment for a place that I'm sure most people visit filled with anxiety.
