My father is there now and I just spent the weekend with him…read more He has little to no short term memory and is a fall risk too. It is true that (especially during meal time when the health care aids add feeding people to their already busy schedules) they can seem short staffed. Really, a person with dementia who is a fall risk probably needs to have someone with them 24/7. What facility could possibly offer that to every patient? Even when the bed alarm is "on" there is too little time between the warning and the fall for a nurse to prevent the fall in most cases, sadly. Our solution has been to have a family member with dad 24/7. I can't imagine the facility is thrilled with that (we try not to be a pain, but probably are anyway). They have been unfailingly kind and considerate to all of us and I can't say enough good things about how kind and respectful they are to my dad notwithstanding his limitations. I did not meet one single staff member while I was there who was anything less than kind and considerate. My whole family has also been impressed by the rehab staff (speech, occupational and physical therapy). Despite my dad's age and lack of short term memory he is making progress thanks to their efforts and the efforts of their predecessors at the hospital. A special thank you to "tattoo man" (sorry, I can't recall his name but he mentioned that another patient with dementia calls him by that name). He has such a nice personality that I think my dad actually looks forward to his next visit and will remember him. Amazing! The actual facility is clean and cheerful. No rehab facility can be perfect but my family and I are very grateful to this one for the care they are providing my dad.

She brought me my evening medication at 2:10 in the morning and my morning medication at 4:30 in the morning and when I ask her about it, she said oh no, I didn't ask. She went if you end up in wing H the facility you're the very last one to receive your food and for the most part it will be cold time you get it And also they run out of certain things on the menu that you're supposed to get and you won't receive them But that being said you were just there for physical therapy you'll be all right

The nursing staff is very inattentive and her calls very rarely get answered. They leave her sitting in the chair for hours on end and do not check on her. I do not recommend this place at all for a loved one's recovery. I just got back from helping her go to bed for the evening and found out she had wet herself three times because she couldn't get anyone to come help her. I demanded to talk to the head of nursing to get the situation resolved and was told they would get back to me after the weekend was over. Not acceptable. No concern for the patients and no caring for them at all. This place should be avoided at all costs.

She's not…read moreonly a very good nurse and what I mean by that is she's very accurate very gentle and she'll listen to you and try to help you . She also is not unable to help in other ways in other words if my CNA is busy she'll come in and do what the CNA would do like take my breakfast tray get me my the necessary things I need in the bathroom to brush my teeth and she's just very very willing to help. She's got a great sense of humor it's so important in life . And just think overall I would say she's a four star nurse . I enjoy annoying her as a person and a nurse . And I feel good when she's here I feel like I know that whatever my needs are she'll help me and if it's something she's not aware of which is not very much she knows pretty much everything it should I ask and find out she goes all the way for a person . That's what we need is residents in here we need someone that's you know empathizing that understands what we need and tries to accommodate us the best way she can . My mother was at Brookdale Skilled Nursing Overland Park for approx 1 week and was discharged to…read moreher home on Hospice. During her stay, nursing and therapy was overall attentive to her needs as was the facility physician. She frequently had to wait for greater than 30 minutes for someone to respond to her call light. Our biggest frustration was during her last day of her stay. When I arrived in the afternoon to pick her up, I found her in her bed without her hearing aids, her call light activated, and an empty water pitcher on her table. She was totally parched, barely able to speak. Her call light was finally answered 45 minutes after I arrived. After my mom's discharge, I called to talk to senior management. I talked to the facility CEO who promised to talk to staff and get back to me. What has added to my frustration was that after repeated call backs by me, she has yet to have followed up with me.

The care she received was very good - first many staff assessed her level of need. Then they built a plan to support, challenge, and strengthen her. They were positive, professional, and kind. I work in healthcare as a psychologist and was impressed. I suppose that if I could, I'd take off half a star for the food being a bit bland.

I went into Mid America rehab for a tour. The first floor looked nice, but going to the second…read morefloor was a different story. Not too nice. Not clean. Dingy looking. Employees were laying on the beds in the therapy room and had their feet up on chairs while on their phones. Both the front desk woman and the admissions woman who gave me the tour, did not focus on what their facility could offer, but instead trashing their competition. There were at least five times that they made negative comments about other rehab facilities. Not professional at all. I would not recommend for that alone. Luckily, we didn't end up needing a rehab.
