I came in with a broken key fob for a Honda that I was helping out a friend with. The key case was held together with black tape and would hardly come out of the ignition. You had to push pull and wiggle and you basically had no leverage. Rick took a look at things and began to tackle the job. He was successful in removing the important parts of the key and reinserted them into the new case. He then cut a new key and with just a little tweaking we were in business. He went the extra mile and brought a graphite duster applicator and gave a few squeezes into the ignition. Ran the key in and out a few times and the key extraction felt like it should and what it would have been like new. I sure appreciate his expertise and making sure all buttons worked and very smooth. What a wonderful experience! My husband and I just moved into our first house. We decided that it would be important to get the locks changed. I called five different places in Omaha. The one that was the most helpful, friendly, informative, and straight to the point was Carl Jarl. They had great customer service over the phone! Then they came the next day to replace the locks. I thought this place was the "go to" locksmith in Omaha, NE but apparently I was mistaken. I brought in three key blanks to be cut (I had the "key code" which tells the locksmith exactly how to cut the key) but they weren't able to help. The guy behind the counter said in order to cut the key with the code it would be $25.00 per key and he could not guarantee that they would work. He also refused to cut one of my titanium key blanks saying that it "would ruin his machine" so that was that. Interestingly enough I just hopped on the old smartphone and found another locksmith nearby who not only cut the keys (even the titanium one) with NO problems but only charged me 10.00 for all three! I called around to a couple places in Omaha to see if they would allow me to bring in my own key blank to cut, but most retail stores require you to buy their keys. The first locksmith I called had the same policy. After calling at least four places, I called Carl Jarl and the man on the phone said it was no problem and to come on over, even though they were about to close. I've used Carl Jarl services before and was very happy with them so called again. They set up the appointment with me efficiently at the time and day I needed (not an emergency) and asked if I'd like to be called before John, the technician, arrived. This service was for my front storm door lock which simply wouldn't turn. I got a call prior to agreed time. John was polite, efficient, wiped off the door afterward, made sure he didn't track in on this snowy day, and explained the issue. Probably several years of gunk had accumulated plus it was out of alignment. He made sure all was well and asked me to try the door now. Smooth turning now and like new! Small industrial strip mall store. Pretty old looking inside with guns and big safes and deer heads on the wall and such. Might creep some people out. It's easy to get in and out of and get keys-though I ran them out of stock on a recent visit. You aren't going to get a lot of smiles and happy talk from the staff here-but they get you in and out fine and I have never had a key not work that was made here. read more

I cannot be more pleased with their work. Our dead bolt on house broke. I called at 8:30 to schedule them out to replace it. Was told they would be out by 11:30 and he was out in less then an hour. Our lock on door has never "worked well" it was always very tight and required 2 hands and shaking door to get it locked or unlocked. In less then 45 mins he replaced not only the dead bolt but also the door knob lock. I can now actually go in and out my front door like normal!!! I called Carl Jarl last night because I had been locked out of my house for about 3 hours in freezing temperatures after I had been walking my dog. When they arrived it was someone totally different then Carl Jarl it was someone from 24/7 locksmith and I was very uneasy with this person because he told me to put my dog in backyard before he would even get out of the car. He proceeded to ask me for my credit card and tried to charge me $177 before he even started the job. How do you know what to charge before you even get started. This is outrageous. I will never call Carl Jarl again and they were always my go to locksmith in the past. If they can't tell the customer they have contracted out their work then they are hiding something. read more

We called Carl Jarl in Omaha to have the locks changed on my mother's home. Nice enough man answered the phone and took the order. When Rick called to schedule the work he was rude and condescending to the point of being obnoxious. We called another locksmith, scheduled with them and called Carl Jarl to cancel. They might be a long time Omaha company, but their business will suffer with if their customer service is as poor as Rick's. read more

Truly, if it were possible to rate a business with zero (or negative) stars, I would do so in this case. Work (in this case gunsmithing) was several weeks late, significantly over budget, and frankly just abysmal. After several major failures, eventually had to have the weapon serviced by a reputable gunsmith, who charged me more to undo Carl Jarl's work than he would have charged in the first place! I had a new key cover for an auto key with the chip in it and needed it cut . I took it in to Carl Jarl to be cut. Then I realized I really didn't know how to put the old part into the new key. The guy put it in for me, and didn't even charge me. This saved me a lot of time, and some money. It is great to get extra service like this! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANIES SERVICES UNLESS YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR GUNS OR TIME. We took my gun to them to be fixed after another person broke the firing pin. We were assured they knew how to fix this. We told them to order a new firing pin. We were told it would be done in a few weeks. A few weeks later we started calling to find out the status. Initially we could not get anyone to answer our calls then when someone finally did we were told Oh it's not done yet. Give us some more time. We waited 2 more weeks. After repeated phone calls again we were told they were just now case hardening the firing pin but it would be done in 2 days. 4days later we called the response we got was Oh the firing pin broke so we are going to order another one. It will be a couple of additional weeks. By now it has been over 5 weeks. 2 weeks later we called to see about the progress the answer was it's not done yet. Wait 2 more weeks. After two weeks we contacted them again and were told Oh it's not done yet. My husbands response was I will be in to get it tomorrow done or not. Amazingly enough the next day at 11:00 they finally called and said it was done. He went and got the gun. So after almost 3 months, incredibly poor customer service service, no communication and not following directions we got my gun back. Delays can happen but the lack of communication and not following directions makes me believe this is a standard rather than a fluke. We were charged money after al of the poor service to fix this on top of to. We paid it because we never want anything more to do with this business. I will tell anyone who asks about our experience and advise them and anyone they know not to use this company. read more
