I've been here a couple of times for a specific issue. I love the self check-in procedure. Facility is very clean (from what I've seen) and all staff, from schedulers to the Drs, have been exceedingly friendly. Don't expect to spend a lot of time with your provider. I'm never with mine for longer than 15 minutes and appointments book out weeks, if not a month or two, in advance. I like my provider, though. He has great beside manner. My only real complaint is that a direct line for each department is not listed for patients to see. Ex: gynecology, dermatology, etc. You're given a phone number that sends you directly to the general scheduling center. If you have an urgent question, reaction to medication, etc. I'm sure the operator can connect you to the appropriate nurse, but I strongly dislike the fact that you can't contact each department on your own. You have to explain your situation to a scheduler and then they determine how to handle your call. I will return and continue to be a patient because I have yet to be disappointed. If you're looking for very special attention, you won't get it here. I'm sure the Drs see upward of 50 patients a day, thus the 15 minute appointments. Use their online portal system for medication refills or to send a message/question to your Dr. The portal has worked very well for me, but plan to wait a few days for a reply. Great location. I saw Dr. Neitzel in April for androgenic alopecia, which I had been diagnosed with over a decade ago by other dermatologists. I made the appointment to get more refills on a medication that I had been taking for about 6 months at the time, prescribed by a dermatologist out of town. Dr. Neitzel would not prescribe me this medication because it's used off-label. Well, the literature supporting its effectiveness for hair loss and its relative safety exist. In the past two years, according to a different derm I saw, more and more research has come out supporting the use of this drug for hair growth. The best Dr. Neitzel could do for me was refer me to a specialist facility in St. Louis, which I never heard back from. To top it off, my insurance does not cover hair loss, so I had to pay for the entire visit out of pocket. So, I walked out of that office with no medication refills, seemingly because Neitzel has not kept up with the latest research - prescribing medications off-label happens literally all of the time, but he was not comfortable with any of it. So all I got was an empty referral to a treatment center I never even heard back from and got stuck with the bill. What prompted me to write this review today was that I got a letter in the mail from a DEBT COLLECTOR because I still owed Carle Physician Group $32.07 on my payment plan. Wow. Utterly disappointed, biggest waste of my time and money. read more

Alarmist, incompetent Carle Convenient Care on Curtis providers. Since it was months before I could get a primary care appointment after moving to Illinois, I went to Convenient Care to request a prescription refill. The nurse who saw me was unfamiliar with the medication and mistook it for something much more serious and said I needed to go to the ER immediately. I said I would rather just wait and see another provider and that I needed to feed my kids dinner. She said, "I'm sure your children would rather be hungry one night than have a dead mother," and then she said she had already notified the ER that I was coming immediately and that I needed to go. I argued repeatedly about preferring to wait for primary care and not wanting to go to the ER. She insisted so much that I finally only agreed to visit the ER out of fear Carle would ban me as a noncompliant patient if I didn't go. When I showed up to the ER, the Convenient Care nurse had not sent the ER adequate explanation of why she wanted me to go there, and the ER couldn't see anything wrong, so they finally did an unnecessary CT scan, said there was nothing wrong, and then sent me home, charging me an extremely expensive bill for the appointment. The ER doctor even treated me like it was my fault that I had come in unnecessarily, even when I kept saying that I didn't want to be there and had only gone because the Convenient Care nurse had made me go. read more

From dermatology to gynecology, to a PCP visit, I've only ever had bad experiences at this location. The PCP I visited a couple of years ago was unbelievably condescending about stomach issues I was having. Rather than suggest reasonable starting steps or referring me to a gastroenterologist, she scheduled expensive exams that were not helpful. I did not return to her after a second visit of no progress. A couple of years later I visited with dermatology about an annual check on the moles I have, this was all that was discussed. The provider said he wanted to check on them in a year and to give him a call if I had any skin issues throughout the year. The visit was pleasant but problems were revealed later on. A few days later I had my annual gyno exam. The nurse practitioner was very backwards, not mentioning sterilization as a valid choice when I told her I wanted to re-evaluate my birth control options. When I asked her about it, she was extremely reluctant to give me a consult to talk to a doctor about it, even going so far as to say I would be wasting the doctor's time even though it's a doctor's job to address patient concerns. I am 27 so suggesting that I can't know about something I've actively avoided for 16 years of possible childbearing tells me this woman has no sense of women's bodily autonomy. She also kept on mentioning my acne as a reason why she was suggesting certain forms of birth control, which I thought was bizzare as I have no complaints with my acne and was wearing a mask the entire time. When I got home, I saw that the dermatologist had put it in his notes that he had talked to me about my acne, even going so far as to say he described "in detail" the risks of medications he never even mentioned!! My annual exam was billed as a normal gyno exam* so insurance said they wouldn't cover it although it covered the requirements for the preventive well-woman exam. It has been over a month and my lab results are not complete. I could not recommend this location any less and it really paints a bad picture for the entirety of Carle. I also agree there seemed to be a lot of mysterious charges for very short conversations that did not address problems. *I was informed that you cannot have an annual/well-woman visit as a first visit, it is automatically charged as a normal visit for all new patients so I would definitely go elsewhere for your gynecology needs! read more

What a JOKE.... Been several years since I had to deal with a Carle facility and found out they still have no idea what patients or customer service is all about. Sent to this facility for a preop exam and called to ask what entrance I need to use. The answer was MAIN. The three are not labeled that. Asked where the physician I was seeing was located and told me in Family Practice. Went in the EAST door and checked in... Good appointment but lab and radiology ordered. Asked where is lab and radiology and told on other side of building. Checked in at lab who asked me about my appointment. Lab Appointment was provided and was notified I needed to check in at "that desk" to get my radiology appointment. So after checking in to my Dr appt you need me to check in and have appointments at to other places. I GET IT How about you asshats SHARE that information with ALL the pissed off patients I am watching walk away from your counters because your staff cannot be TROUBLED to speak clearly and provide WHAT your policy IS. Maybe for those of us venturing to your facility for the first time have NO IDEA (Signs may be a nice add) AND when your calling people up don't use just a first name... that stops four Jeff's from walking up there to piss off the poor Carle worker in the lab area who thinks we all should know which person you actually are after. I love retirement in Champaign-Urbana, but the one thing I tell people thinking of moving here is--the medical care sucks. We have kept our insurance so we can go to Chicago and St. Louis, but as a retiree I can see that there will be a time when we can't make the trips. First, I can't get a regular MD anymore. Only a nurse practitioner, who is excellent but I'm in my seventies and I think I should be able to see a doctor. Second, I see a different endocrinologist almost every year. They circulate in and out. Third, Carle really doesn't have a comprehensive senior care approach or strategy. Christie is no better. read more

I've never had any issues here. I see Dr Anu, she's great! As is her nurse practitioner Roni Kim. If you need a family doctor, set up an appointment as soon as you can. The doctors seem to only take new patients before a short time before they have so many patients they can no longer take anymore new ones. The convenient care(walk in) it's not bad, on weekdays you can expect a longer wait though, here right now on a Sunday morning, checked in at kiosk and was called back in less than 5 minutes. The medical staff at convenient care are great, never had any issue or been incorrectly diagnosed. I would recommend this Carle clinic for sure, based off my own personal experiences at least. read more

I've been trying to get a hold of dr Walker about something very critical and she is unresponsive. Called her answering service and told them it was urgent and no response. They even apologized for her not responding and reached out to her again and the doctor on call. That other doctor could not advise so they called Dr walker again and no response. It is now day 3 with no responsive for a critical patient. If you are her patient run to a new doctor who actually cares. Talk about poor patient care. I will be reporting her. read more

Dr. Royal is my primary care physician. I have been having issues relating to seasonal allergies and have reached the point I want to address this with something other than Claritin or Zyrtec. I called to get an appointment with Dr. Royal and he was unavailable for quite a while. However, his staff talked to him about my situation, he prescribed an eye drop to address the problem, contacted ophthamology and asked them to get me in right away, ophthamology contacted me the next day and I am certain I will get this addressed. I know that is not always the timely experience we get from healthcare providers. Well done Dr. Royal and staff. Thank you. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I went in for a routine, yearly physical, all preventative care. Dr Fons requested I have lab work done for two conditions I told her I didn't have, as I've been tested many time before for them. She insisted and I, naively, trusted her judgement. Then came the $700 bill in the mail. My insurance cannot cover the majority of the bill, as the doctor coded it as DIAGNOSTIC not preventative. Also, shockingly, I tested negative for both conditions and nothing was found to be wrong with my extremely expensive blood work. Carle researched my case and managed to take a little off, but cannot take any more off. Dr Fons and her office cannot change the coding, as it would be "insurance fraud." Because of the way Carle "splits" its billing between the Association and Foundation sides, and the lab is apparently on the other side of this divide, I got screwed. I have, as mentioned, had these labs done before, by many different doctors, at many different hospitals, and under both the same and other insurances. I have never paid more than a copay. The roughly half a dozen account representatives (who have all been very kind, though not very helpful, as Carle's billing simply is nonsensical), not to mention the supervisors, insist that there is nothing to be done. I'm not a doctor. When I go in for a routine physical, and the nurse/doctor goes through a list of questions, seems concerned by your answers, and recommends, nay insists, you get tested for possilbly life threatening conditions, I trust the doctor. The absurd disconnect between departments which leads to even more ridiculous bills was never explained nor even hinted at to me. I never, for instance, signed any kind of disclosure or agreed to let anyone do anything than take (quite a bit) of blood. I am saddled paying half a thousand dollars because Dr Fons was "concerned" about my health, and felt these tests were necessary, even after I told her I felt fine and had been tested before. Dr Fons was very nice, and I thought I'd had a good medical experience until I saw the bill. I'd like to believe that Dr Fons did have my best health interest at heart, but now I just feel I've been swindled, both by the good doctor and by Carle. I've certainly heard a number of Carle horror stories living in Chambana (including a few cases of incorrect, harmful prescriptions), and now I have my own. read more

Be very cautious with these people from a financial sense. As a 19 year old, my mom wanted to get me skin allergy tested so she set it up and came down for it. The price turned out to be $6,000 total when online says it should be between $60-$300 http://www.choosingwisely.org/patient-resources/allergy-tests/ Signed off on the hospital to contact my parents to take care of payments and insurance, so didn't hear much about it for two years, until I tried opening up a credit card, and couldn't get one set up due to a collection being out for me. I called my parents and got the billing history which showed we paid a bill for $1100 (already ridiculous for allergy testing), but apparently we were double billed, with the second bill being for $5000. My parents will not pay it because it's unbelievably wrong what the hospital did, and I haven't been able to get a credit card for over a year now as 23 year old through no fault to my own. I'm not saying there aren't good people at this hospital or even good doctors, but to take advantage of a 19 year old kid, charge over $6000, and ruin his credit for years is a 100% immoral move.
