I'm writing this review on her behalf to maintain her privacy. She visited as many as four psychiatrist , neurologist, psychologist, etc. all in search for a cure or at least some kind of improvement in her quality of life. She tried SSRIs, vitamins, and psychotherapy without much success. After much research we stumbled into an video regarding TMS, which gave her hope. TMS is new and there are not many providers in the area of Broward, so after some research she ended up at the office of Dr Alfaro in Sunset , Miami. TMS is a blessing, the process takes six weeks, but it's worth it. She went from not enjoying life and not being able to read or concentrate to now being more positive and definitely happier. I would say she is went from 1 to 9 in a scale of 1 to 10. The road to complete mental health is complex. For us TMS was an amazing tool to a better life. I highly recommend. I also recommend that you combine it with psychotherapy , better nutrition and lots of kindness to the person going through this. I hope the person reading this finds help through either Dr Alfaro or any source. Mental illness is real and the world needs to be more aware and kind. There are many resources online and many videos regarding TMS. Special note, I chose Dr Alfaro because she is a neurologist and she has psychiatrist and psychologist as part of her staff. I found another TMS place in Broward , same machine , but I didn't feel the care given by Dr Alfaro during our first meeting. So much so that she could not drive herself home from school. I picked her up and told her she needed to let her doctor know ASAP. My daugther called and was told someone would call her back. When they finally did, instead of showing concern about my daughter's reaction, the conversation quickly became about demanding payment. As a former OB/GYN nurse, I have personally worked in many medical practice where patients called with concerns about adverse reactions to medications. We would never make a patient feel like they had to pay simply to have their provider address a medication reaction. I understand that medical practices have fees and policies, but there is a huge difference between having a billing policy and treating a concerned parent like an inconvenience. The worst part, however, was Christina Alfaro, NP. Her attitude was rude, dismissive, condescending, and completely lacking in compassion. At one point, she actually told me: "The problem here is that you and your daughter do not communicate." Excuse me? My daughter was experiencing a reaction to medication, and THAT was the response I received from her healthcare provider? That statement was completely unnecessary and incredibly unprofessional. If you work in healthcare, you should know how to communicate with patients and their families without talking down to them or blaming them. And yes, I did call Ms. Alfaro an asshole. I was angry and frustrated after being spoken to in such a disrespectful and condescending manner. I shouldn't have used those words, but I also shouldn't have had to defend myself as a parent simply for advocating for my daughter. Bedside manner matters. Compassion matters. Communication matters. Being a healthcare provider is not just about writing prescriptions and collecting payment. Patients are human beings, and when they're experiencing a medication reaction, they deserve to be treated with concern and respect. Unfortunately, that is not the experience we had here. I would never recommend Christina Alfaro, NP, and I would not recommend this practice. There are far too many healthcare providers who understand that patients deserve both competent medical care and basic human decency.
