James Martin is a LIAR!…read more I had previously applied for a mortgage and was approved by The Mortgage Partner and James R. Martin through a major bank. We were not surprised as we are 800+ credit scores with previous solid multiple mortgage experiences. Provided ALL documents and verification and was set to close. He and his office led us, our realtor, the seller and all other parties involved that everything was on track and ready to close. Come closing date, no word and no details from The Mortgage Partner or James Martin. He was not responsive. When the scheduled closing day came and gone, all the parties outside of The Mortgage Partner and James Martin were left wondering what happened. Then one of the companies that handled part of the process told me that James Martin and The Mortgage Partner gave them some excuses and blamed me the borrower for not paying a basic less than $50 fee to open a membership account. All the involved parties from my broker, real estate agent, new home construction company and others all heard about James Martin's bogus excuse and all agreed that he was full of shit. One of the involved company's president had direct conversation with James Martin told me that James Martin came clean and told him that he told everyone the we were approved for closing and provided a closing date that everyone was working towards because he was working on towards it. When he was asked why he just didn't tell his customer (me) the truth, he didn't provide him an answer. This president also asked him why he just didn't fix the problem with the bank and told James Martin that the customer's (us) credit would not have any problem getting approved anywhere else. James Martin did not provide him a valid answer. James Martin started to blame the bank for not honoring the approved mortgage and placed all the blame on them instead of taking ownership. This company's president told him and me that he's NEVER heard of a mortgage being held up for a bogus $50 membership fee, which does NOT exist nor was it a requirement. After James Martin and The Mortgage Partner had lied and failed to come through, he personally had the nerve to contact my agent and others demanding that I pay him hundreds in fees for something he didn't even do. These companies and agents called me to tell me that they couldn't believe the crap James Martin just tried to pull off with them and all laughed it off. A few weeks later I was finally able to get a hold of James Martin by calling him from a different phone number since he was avoiding my calls. He continued to blame me and that he even said the one company's president he talked to agreed with him. How funny is that. I asked him for his mortgage broker license number so I can report him to the State of California Department of Business Oversight who regulates unfair practices of mortgage brokers. James Martin laughed and said good luck to me then hangs up. I was able to find out from one of the employees that James Martin's father in law owns the business. The company is actually owned by Jack & Jo-Anne Coupens. I want to clarify that no one else from The Mortgage Partner's office misled us or everyone involved in the process, it was only James Martin.
